Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM had their five-month reign on top of all sports format radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale region end as Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM edged them. Both radio stations, under the same company Entercom Communications, controlled 85% of the market with the sports format which was 88% in December and 92% in November.
The Ticket remained the same with a 0.9 in the period. The Miami Heat continued a winning trend during the month of January with seven consecutive victories while Josh Friedman returned as the evening host after a one-month absence.
WQAM took a tremendous drop as they lost almost half of their audience and went from a 1.5 to a 0.8 in January. The lack of local football of the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami football broadcasts had an impact along with the Florida Panthers having to struggle.
Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM stayed at a 0.3 for the second straight month. It follows five straight months that they were at a 0.2. They have found an audience through University of Florida basketball and NFL playoff broadcasts piped in by Westwood One.
