The Florida Panthers finished the 2017-18 regular season with a 4-2 win over the Boston Bruins at TD Garden back on Sunday night. It was a make-up game due to the postponement of a contest back in early January. The Bruins loss gave the Tampa Bay Lightning the Atlantic Division title.
The Panthers ended the season with 96 points. It was one point behind the New Jersey Devils for the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
Things started off right for Florida(44-30-8) as newcomer Henrik Borgstrom scored his first NHL goal 1:22 into the opening period. David Backes tied it for Boston(50-20-12) at the 8:18 mark with his 14th goal of the campaign. Frank Vatrano burned his former team on a tally with 3:14 left in the first for a Cats 2-1 lead.
The Panthers scored the only goal in the second period. Maxim Mamin helped Florida extend the margin with 6:27 remaining.
In the third period, the B's would convert on the power play midway through the stanza at 9:54. David Pastrnak compiled his 35th goal of the season for the Bruins.
Florida put the game out of reach with 1:49 to go in regulation to make it 4-2. Evgenii Dadonov swept in a backhand shot from the top of the crease by Tuukka Rask.
