The Miami Marlins were beaten by the New York Mets 5-2 on Thursday night at Citi Bank. The Marlins lost both games of the doubleheader to the Mets.
In the second inning, Miami(57-89) moved out to a 2-0 lead. Miguel Rojas cranked a two-run homer to left field on a 2-1 pitch and Marlins starting pitcher Jeff Brigham scored in front of him.
New York(68-78) jumped over the Fish in the fifth inning. Tomas Nido nailed a solo home run to left on a 1-2 count. Four batters later, Michael Conforto lined a two-run double to right-center field which brought in Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas and Jeff McNeil.
The Mets were able to extend their lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh. Conforto got a base hit into shallow right field to score Amed Rosario. Dominic Smith came up next, grounded out to first and McNeil crossed the plate.
