The Pittsburgh Pirates played a rare early Saturday afternoon home game and beat the Miami Marlins 5-1 at PNC Park. The Marlins face getting swept in the three-game series on Sunday.
In the second inning, Pittsburgh(71-71) scored first. Kevin Newman drove in Jose Osuna with a single into center field.
The Pirates extended their lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Jacob Stallings hit a line drive into shallow center for a base hit. It went under the glove of Lewis Brinson for Josh Bell and Osuna to cross the plate.
The Bucs made it four-run margin during the sixth inning on a Bell solo home run to center on a 3-2 pitch. They added a run in the seventh as Starling Marte knocked in Adam Frazier on a double to left-center field.
Miami(56-86) got their only tally in the top of the eighth. Austin Dean was at-bat when Miguel Rojas scored on a wild pitch.
