The playoff point standings were released by the FHSAA following Week 8 competition. District play for schools will be completed either this weekend or next weekend.
The top two spots reminded the same in Class 8A of Region 3 with #1 Atlantic(43.43) and #2 Deerfield Beach(41.88) while other district leaders tied for the third seed with (40.29) Palm Beach Central, Plantation and Weston. Other playoff contenders includes #6 Piper(38.43), #7 Wellington(37.75), #8 Park Vista(36.71) along with #9 Seminole Ridge and #9 Miramar(36.43).
Dade County schools in the point standings for Region 4 has South Dade(42.43), Miami Palmetto(41.29), Columbus(41.00), Miami Southridge(41.00), Hialeah(39.14), Homestead(38.00), Belen Jesuit(37.00), Coral Gables(35.88), North Miami(35.29) and Braddock(34.43).
Class 7A in Region 4 had the same eight playoff teams for playoff positions from last week. The list has #1 St. Thomas Aquinas(44.71), #2 Dwyer(43.50), #3 McArhur(36.86). #3 Miami Springs(38.86), #5 Doral Academy(39.25) #6 Fort Lauderdale(37.86), #7 Mater Academy(37.71) and #8 Palm Beach Lakes(37.43). #9 Forest Hill(37.00) is on the doorstep along with #10 West Broward(36.29).
District 16 in Class 6A had no significant change from the previous week. Carol City(42.43) is first, Miami Central(41.00) in second, Miami Northwestern(38.14) in fourth and Norland(36.86) in eighth. Dillard(37.13) remains the lone school from District 15.
Region 4 in Class 5A changed slightly in South Florida with a #3 Cardinal Gibbons(41.00) victory over #4 American Heritage(40.29) last week as both schools switched rankings. #8 Coconut Creek(37.14) and #9 Hallandale(36.57) are fighting it out for the final playoff spot.
Things remained unchanged for Region 4 in Class 4A among the top four seeds with #1 University School(41.43), #2 Booker T. Washington(39.88), #3 Monsignor Pace(39.25) and #4 Glades Central(37.14). #5 Gulliver Prep(36.14) moved up two spots while #6 Pine Crest(35.43) and #7 Key West(35.14) dropped one spot.
Class 3A of Region 4 had the same top three schools. It has #1 American Heritage(41.43), #2 Chaminade-Madonna(40.43) and #3 Benjamin(40.13). Westminster Christian(38.75), Palmer Trinity(38.50) and Everglades Prep(34.86) round out the last three playoff position with #7 St. Andrew's(34.29) barely on the outside. In the northern bracket of Region 2, Kings Academy(37.63) stayed at #2 and Cardinal Newman(36.29) fell from third to fourth.
Pahokee(41.14) remained the only representative in South Florida as the #1 seed in Class 1A of Region 4. Glades Day(39.71) became the top seed in Region 4 of Class 2A, Miami Christian(38.57) dropped from first to third and Champagnat Catholic(37.14) remained in the fifth hole.
