The American Heritage Patriots begin their attempt for a third straight FHSAA Class 5A state championship as they make the long trip and face the Fort Pierce Westwood Panthers on Friday night. The Patriots get a rare occurrence and will be the visiting team for a regional quarterfinal game.
American Heritage(8-1) finished in second place behind Cardinal Gibbons in District 16. They started the regular season with a tough schedule with a forfeit win over Carol City followed by victories over St. Joseph Regional, Miramar, Coconut Creek and defending Class 3A state champion Chaminade-Madonna. The Patriots have outscored their opponents 245-125 this season.
They will look toward their rushing game with running backs Tyler Jones and Lavelton Williams. Wide receivers Tyler March, Douglas Emilien and tight end Beau Johnson are expected to make pass receptions from quarterback Edwin Rhodes.
Fort Pierce Westwood(7-3) captured the District 15 crown. The Panthers began the season winning four of their first five games then lost to Vero Beach. They had district wins over Port St. Lucie and Suncoast.
