The Atlantic Eagles face the Wellington Wolverines on Friday night in a non-district game. The Eagles are the top seed in the playoff point standings for Region 3 of Class 8A. The Wolverines currently have the top at-large seed in that region and are likely to make the postseason.
Atlantic(9-0) is the only undefeated team in Palm Beach County. The last time they lost a contest was in the FHSAA Class 8A state championship game against Dr. Phillips. The Eagles began the regular season with victories over Palm Beach Central, Dwyer, Pahokee and Park Vista in the first four weeks. They have outscored opponents 286-61 this year.
Their defense has been impressive with three shutouts and have held opponents to six points per game. They are anchored by defensive backs Javone Jackson, Kael Williams, Deandre McCray and defensive lineman Henry Bryant. Quarterback Kalani Ilimaleota intends to find wide receivers Kam Williams, Tyler Burke and Tyrese Blue on passes.
Wellington(6-3) have a two-game win streak and were idle last week. The Wolverines had blowout losses to district winners Vero Beach, Palm Beach Central and Dwyer. They did edge out wins over Park Vista and Seminole Ridge during the year. They have a 3-1 record at home this season.
The Wolverines offense is led by Marc-Antony Richards. He will line up as a wide receiver, running back or special team returner and can score on any play. Running back Jadien Durant is expected to get some handoffs from the backfield. Austin Wallace and Blake Kendall Jr. have both seen action as quarterback this season.
