The Deerfield Beach Bucks host the Columbus Explorers at Butler Stadium on Friday night in a Class 8A state semifinal. The winner will play in the Class 8A state championship at Camping World Stadium in Orlando on December 8.
Columbus(13-0) is undefeated this season. The Explorers beat Coral Gables 38-21 in a regional quarterfinal, blanked Miami Palmetto 42-0 in a regional semifinal and defeated South Dade 54-28 in a regional final. They have outscored their last nine opponents 370-84. Running backs Henry Parrish Jr. and Demetries Ford will got the majority of the carries from the backfield.
Deerfield Beach(12-1) returns to the state semifinal for the second time in three years. They were at home and lost to eventual state champion Miami Southridge in 2016. The Bucks have outscored their opponents 409-125 this season. They overcame Miramar 32-14 in the regional quarterfinal, shut out Plantation 23-0 in the regional semifinal and beat Palm Beach Central 24-13 last week in the regional final.
The Bucks offense can split their plays between the run and the pass. Quarterback DeRohn King is their starting quarterback and can occasionally run out of the pocket. Running back Jaylan Knighton is expected to get the majority of rushing attempts for the team. Wide receivers Deajaun McDougle, Deshaun Davis, Bryce Gowdy, Donte Banton and Raphael Williams look to get open down the field.
