The Fort Lauderdale Flying L's face the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders on Friday night in a Class 7A regional semifinal at Brian Piccolo Stadium. The Raiders blanked the Flying L's 49-0 in a district game during Week 8.
Fort Lauderdale(9-2) won their first FHSAA playoff game in 50 years last week with a 54-7 rout over Doral Academy. Their only loss besides to St. Thomas Aquinas was a road loss to Vero Beach. The Flying L's have outscored their last four opponents 139-34.
St. Thomas Aquinas(10-1) have won every game this year with the exception of a home loss to Miami Central in Week 5. STA is on a six-game winning streak and last week pounded South Miami 77-20. The Raiders have won 13 regional semifinal contests since 2004 and lost to Dwyer during the second round in 2013. They have outscored their opponents 542-92 this season. Aquinas has averaged 57 points in their last five games.
The Raiders come out with an offensive attack that is even strength between running and passing the ball. Running backs Daniel Carter and Nigel White will both get their rushing opportunities. Quarterback Curt Casteel intends to find wide receivers Marcus Rosemy, Jamal Cooney, Xavier Restrepo and Jahvante Royal down the field on passing attempts.
