The University School Sharks host the Glades Central Raiders at AutoNation Field in a Class 4A regional final on Friday night. It will be the fourth time in the last two seasons that both teams will clash. University School won 13-7 in the 2017 season opener at Belle Glade, knocked off Glades Central 44-21 a regional semifinal last year and they beat the Raiders 35-6 in the 2018 regular season opener.
Glades Central(9-3) have momentum with a seven-game winning streak. They finally defeated Booker T. Washington 18-16 in a regional semifinal at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami last week. The Raiders had lost all four playoff meetings against the Tornadoes from 2013 to 2016. They handled Coral Spring Charter 55-10 in the first round and have outscored their last seven opponents 242-83.
The Raiders offense will rely more on their passing attack. Quarterback Davius Richard looks to find wide receivers Jymetre Hester, Ja'Vontae Williams, Odieu Hilaire and Densa Washington down the field for pass completions. Most of their rushing opportunities will be given to running back Jaheim Humphries.
University School(10-1) had an undefeated season until they lost their regular season finale to Chaminade-Madonna 35-0. Following a first-round bye due to the new playoff format in Class 4A, the Sharks breezed by Gulliver Prep 40-13 last week in a regional semifinal. They have compiled four shutouts this year and outscored their opponents 508-108.
The Sharks have an impressive backfield and can split the rushing attempts between running backs Kenny McIntosh and Michael Hurt. They have a slew of wide receivers with Joshua Sanguinetti, Zay Flowers, Jordan Irizarry and Christian Wells who can catch the ball from quarterback Nick Vattiato.
