It is a playoff rematch as the Miami Northwestern Bulls head west to challenge the Naples Golden Eagles on Friday night in a Class 6A state semifinal. Both teams met in the same round last year at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami with the Bulls victorious 42-7.
The defending FHSAA Class 6A state champion Miami Northwestern(8-5) had go the hard way to get to this point of the playoffs. The Bulls picked up road victories over Mainland 31-16 in the regional quarterfinal, Heritage 31-19 in the regional semifinal and Miami Central 19-15 in the regional final. They have averaged 27 points in their last five games and are looking to match their run of two consecutive state titles in 2006 and 2007.
The Bulls can go with two different quarterbacks depending on the situation with Isaiah Velez and Kemani Brown. Running back Nathaniel Noel is expected to get the bulk of the carries from the backfield along with Javas Jackson and Timothy Burns. They have several targets to throw to which includes wide receivers Jacquez Stuart, Romello Brinson, Dwight Jackson, Sean Delaughter and Rayquan Berry.
Naples(12-1) have won 11 straight games. They have compiled four shutouts and outscored their opponents 468-101 this season. The Golden Eagles toppled Lehigh 27-6 in a regional quarterfinal, beat Fort Myers 24-9 in a regional semifinal and blanked North Fort Myers 23-0. They will put an emphasis on their rushing attack with running backs Cesare Melluci, Chase Bertucci and Elan Sommala.
