Orlando Alzugaray is no longer with Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM. He did his final midday program on Tuesday and will continue as a weekend host at Mad Dog Radio on SiriusXM Radio. He will still write for The Athletic Miami, which he started at in August.
It ended the second reign for Alzugaray, a.k.a. The Big O, at that radio station. His recent run there started in August 2014. He did work as an afternoon host on 640 Sports WMEN-AM from October 2010 until August 2014.
He first got noticed locally as a sports reporter on News Radio 610 WIOD-AM along 940 WINZ-AM in 1993 and stayed there almost two years. He moved to San Francisco and worked as a sports host on the first national Spanish language sports talk station in the United States. The organization went out of business after less than one year.
Alzugaray returned to Miami and joined WQAM in 1995 as a sports reporter and weekend host. He later became the midday host and Miami Dolphins pregame studio host in the late 2000s. He was moved to the late morning shift when Michael Irvin became a part of WQAM in July 2010. Alzugaray was demoted to host the evening program when Gino Torretta joined the station in August 2010. He decided to leave the station in September 2010 after two weeks in that position.
