The Santaluces Chiefs topped the Olympic Heights Lions 39-14 at Corey Lewis Stadium in Boca Raton on Thursday night. Both schools are not expected to be in the FHSAA playoffs next week.
After a scoreless first quarter, Santaluces(6-4) got into the end zone on the first play of the second quarter. Running back Vic Carnegie raced up the middle from four yards out to make it 7-0.
The Chiefs were able to score on their next possession. Carnegie went around the left end on a nine-yard touchdown run at the 7:52 mark.
Olympic Heights(5-5) answered back very quickly 12 seconds later. Jekaven Smith ran back the ensuing kickoff down the left sideline 91 yards for a score.
Santaluces followed with 18 points late in the second. Carnegie rushed through the right side of the line and scored a 10-yard touchdown with 3:58 remaining.
They added more points when quarterback Tyler Kintz threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Anthony Caldwell on the right sideline with 1:01 to go. The Lions had a punt blocked and the ball ended up in their end zone for a touchdown with 17.2 seconds left to give Santaluces a 32-7 lead.
The Chiefs put up another score at the 10:34 mark of the fourth quarter to make it 39-7. Kintz tossed the back out to running back Gerry Charles and he then threw a touchdown pass downfield to wide receiver Keyondric Sams.
