Dwyane Wade faced former teammate LeBron James for the final time in an NBA game as the Los Angeles Lakers outscored the Miami Heat 108-105 at Staples Center on Monday. Wade and James helped the Heat win two NBA championships and four Eastern Conference titles in their four seasons together in Miami. James won the all-time head-to-head matchup against Wade 16-15.
The Lakers have won six of the last 20 meetings between both clubs. LA swept the Heat in the season series for the first time since the 2007-08 regular season.
Los Angeles(17-10) had a 27-23 advantage after one quarter. Miami(11-15) went on a 17-4 run that ran between both quarters and moved ahead 34-29 three minutes into the second quarter. They were in front 58-55 by halftime.
The Lakers began the second half with a 6-2 spurt and had a 84-83 lead after three quarters. The Heat led 96-90 with 7:18 left in the fourth. Los Angeles went on a 13-2 run and moved ahead 103-98 with 3:55 to go. The contest was tied 103-103 with 2:56 remaining. In the final seven seconds, Wade and Justise Winslow both missed three-point shots to tie the game.
Wade ended up with a double-double with 15 points, which all of them were in the second half, and 10 assists for Miami. Winslow got a team-high 28 points while Kelly Olynyk added 15 points.
James finished short of a triple-double for the Lakers against his former team with 28 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds. Kyle Kuzma had a game-high 33 points for Los Angeles.
