The FHSAA High School Boys Basketball championship games were held at RP Funding Center in Lakeland this past week. South Florida was represented by several schools.
University School repeated as Class 5A state champions with a 72-46 victory over Andrew Jackson. The Sharks accomplished this without their best player Vernon Carey Jr. who was injured and did not participate.
Stranahan brought its school their first FHSAA state title in any sport since 1975. The Dragons defeated Lakewood 63-54 in the Class 6A state title game.
Westminster Academy captured their third consecutive Class 4A state championship. The Lions edged out Seffner Christian 77-73 in the championship game.
Blanche Ely captured their second straight Class 8A state title and eighth state championship. The Tigers were able to top Lakewood Ranch 57-52.
Their local rival Dillard fell in the Class 7A title game to Crestview 50-40. Wellington lost to Osceola in the Class 9A championship 50-43.
