The Glades Central Raiders survived the Planation Colonels 21-15 on Saturday in West Palm Beach. Both teams are expected to content for the FHSAA playoffs in their own classifications heading into the upcoming 2019 regular season.
Glades Central struck quickly on the third play of their first possession of the game. Quarterback Marion Moreland angled a 10-yard pass to wide receiver Desna Washington in the back side of the end zone for a 7-0 lead at 11:10 of the first.
Plantation answered back to tied the contest 7-7 with their wing-T formation at the 9:32 mark. Wide receiver Carlson Armstong received a shovel pass from quarterback Gerard Nesbitt and raced down the right hash marks from 65 yards out.
The Colonels lost the ball on a fumble at the Raiders 40-yard line with 3:23 to go. The Raiders were able to regain the lead 14-7 with 13 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Wide receiver Ja'Vontae Williams caught an eight-yard touchdown pass in the middle of the end zone from Moreland.
In the second quarter, Plantation jumped to their first lead of the contest with 9:40 remaining. Nesbitt found wide receiver Devin Howard open in the middle on the play and he reached the end zone from 18 yards away. Wingback Mark Anthony Clark scored on a two-point conversion with a run through the right side of the line for a 15-14 lead.
The Raiders regained the lead 21-15 with 1:11 left. Backup quarterback Zomarion Harper fired a pass to Williams on a fly pattern behind the Colonels secondary and he scored a 51-yard touchdown. Glades Central defensive back De'ante Dumelle made an interception with no time remaining to end the game.
