The Miami Marlins began their final road trip of the 2019 season. They bashed the New York Mets 8-4 at Citi Field on Monday night. The Marlins won two straight games for the first time since July 28 and July 29.
Miami(55-101) moved in front 1-0 during the top of the second. Jorge Alfaro golfed a solo home run down the left-field line on a 3-2 pitch for his 16th homer of the year.
The Fish expanded their margin to 2-0 in the third inning. Miguel Rojas singled into shallow center field for Jon Berti to score.
In the sixth inning, the Marlins pulled away 6-0. Alfaro powered a grand-slam homer over the right-center field on a 1-1 count. It was the first grand-slam home run for Alfaro in his career.
New York(81-75) matched the Marlins scoring in the same style in the bottom of the frame. Amed Rosario crushed a grand-slam home run to left-center field on a 0-1 pitch to make it 6-4.
The Marlins added two more runs in the seventh inning. Curtis Granderson and Berti crossed the plate on an infield hit by Harold Ramirez.
