The Miami Hurricanes outlasted the Pittsburgh Panthers 16-12 on Saturday at Heinz Field. The Hurricanes entered the contest in last place among schools in the ACC Coastal Division.
Both teams got on the scoreboard in the first quarter for a 3-3 tie. Alex Kessman kicked a 54-yard field at 11:20 for the Panthers and Camden Price got a 22-yard field goal for the Hurricanes at 5:30.
Miami(4-4, 2-3) took the lead in the second quarter at the 12:05 mark. Running back Cam'Ron Harris rushed up the middle from one yard out.
Pitt(5-3, 2-2) put up three unanswered field goal to go ahead 12-10. Kessman converted from 25 yards at 2:42 of the second, 29 yards at 12:25 of the third and 29 yards with 7:20 left in the fourth quarter.
The Canes reclaimed the lead and moved ahead 16-12 with 1:04 remaining in the final quarter. Quarterback Jarren Williams connected a 32-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver K.J. Osborn.
