The Monsignor Pace Spartans challenge the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs in a Class 4A regional quarterfinal on Friday night at Dr. Bud Tight Field. The Chiefs kick off their attempt to repeat as state champions at The Furnace.
Monsignor Pace(5-5) have won three straight games and defeated North Miami 28-7 last week. Spartans quarterback Ernie Bien-Aime looks to guide the offense down the field. Running backs Takori Thurston and Micah Rolle will split the rushing attempts from the backfield. Wide receivers Keshawn Brown and De'mon Henry can get open for pass receptions.
Cardinal Gibbons(8-2), who are the defending FHSAA Class 5A state champions, have won their last four games putting up at least 38 points in each contest. The Chiefs have outscored their last nine opponents 370-106, which included a 56-14 rout of Monarch last week. Quarterback Brody Palhegyi can occasionally run out of the pocket and will throw passes to wide receivers Troy Stellato, Majon Wright, Jackson Marsielle, Bryson Williams and Devon Kiser. Expect running backs Tajae Davis and Coleman Bennett to get the bulk of the carries.
