The Florida Panthers stopped the Philadelphia Flyers 5-2 at BB&T Center on Tuesday night. It was the third game of a five-game home stand for the Cats as they were victorious for the fourth time in their last five games. The Flyers have lost four straight contests.
Philadelphia(10-7-4) scored first at 6:26 of the opening frame. Philippe Myers fired a slapshot frin the right point that was stopped by the stick of Josh Brown. It came up to the left point where Travis Sunheim blistered a slap shot by Sergei Bobrovsky. Sunheim has 13 career goals and five of them are against Bobrovsky.
Florida(11-5-5) tied it up 1-1 with 9:22 left in the first. Colton Sceviour snapped a shot from the left point that went off the stick of Andy Andreoff and past Carter Hart in the Flyers cage. Mike Matheson and Brett Connolly were both credited with assists on the play.
The Panthers moved ahead 2-1 with 7:30 remaining in the period. Vincent Trocheck poked the puck away from Kevin Hayes. Connolly carried it down the right-wing wall and lifted a shot from the goal line that went over the left shoulder of Hart.
In the second period, the Cats expanded their lead to a two-goal margin at the 6:46 mark. Evgenii Dadonov released a wrist shot from high slot which was saved. Aleksander Barkov followed with a snap shot from the low slot for his seventh goal of the season.
Florida continued their momentum with 9:37 to go in the period to make it 4-1. Dadonov scooped the puck from the right corner to Barkov on the end wall. He made a short pass to the low right circle and Jonathan Huberdeau let go a wrist shot for his 10th goal of the campaign. Brian Elliott replaced Hart in net for Philly following the tally.
The Flyers cut the deficit with 5:41 remaining in the second. Travis Konecny advanced the puck from the left point to Morgan Frost in the left corner. He raced with it across the goal line and roofed a backhand shot for his first NHL goal in his career.
The Panthers made it 5-2 with 2:32 left in the third period. Kevin Hayes was stripped of the puck at the red line by Mike Hoffman and he sent the puck into the empty net for his ninth goal.
