The Dillard Panthers challenge the Blanche Ely Tigers at Richard L. Williams Stadium in Pompano Beach on Saturday night in the 56th annual Soul Bowl. The Panthers have won the contest in the last two years. The Tigers won four straight games in the rivalry prior to that.
Dillard(9-0) currently has an undefeated record. They captured the District 15 title in Class 6A several weeks ago. The Panthers barely edged the Class 8A state finalist Columbus 21-20 two weeks ago in their last game. They have compiled four shutouts, outscored their opponents 390-79 and averaged 43 points per game this year. Running back Patrick Bowen will get the majority of carries from the backfield.
Blanche Ely(7-2) had their five-game winning streak snapped last week as they went on the road and fell to Atlantic 34-16 for the District 13 title in Class 7A. They have chalked up three shutouts this season. Quarterback Jevon Williams will be the focal point on offense for the Tigers as he can get the ball to wide receivers Darnell Deas, Devante Deas, Courtney Gordon and Tomorius Grant for pass completions.
