The Miami Dolphins shocked the New England Patriots 27-24 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. The Patriots defeated the Dolphins 43-0 back in Week 2.
Miami(5-11) scored first at 1:38 of the opening quarter. Jason Sanders booted a 27-yard field goal to get a 3-0 lead.
The Dolphins extended their lead to 10-0 at the 10:31 of the first quarter. Defensive back Eric Rowe intercepted a pass from quarterback Tom Brady and returned it 35 yards for the score.
The Patriots got on the scoreboard with 4:25 left in the second. Nick Folk was able to kick a 25-yard field goal and they trailed 10-3.
New England(12-4) tied the contest on their next possession with 2:05 to go in the first half. Former American Heritage player and running back Sony Michel rushed in through the left side from four yards away.
In the third quarter, the Fins regained the lead 17-10 at 7:42. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick scrambled up the middle and scored from four yards out.
The Pats once again evened it up 17-17 with 4:26 left in the third. Brady completed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Roberts on the right side.
Miami scored in the fourth quarter at the 8:29 mark to go ahead 20-17. Sanders converted on a fueld goal from 32 yards.
New England would be able to leap ahead 24-20 with 3:53 remaining. Former St. Thomas Aquinas player and running back James White caught a 13-yard swing pass on the right side from Brady and raced untouched into the end zone.
It would come down to the Dolphins final drive of the contest. Fitzpatrick tossed a five-yard pass to the middle of the end zone where tight end Mike Gesicki was with 24 seconds left and they led 27-24.
