The Miami Marlins are expected to sign catcher Francisco Cervelli to a one-year contract. The 12-year veteran has played for the New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates and Atlanta Braves.
Cervelli helped the Yankees win their last World Series in 2009 as a backup catcher and was their for seven seasons. He joined the Pirates as a free agent in 2015 and helped them make the National League playoffs as a wild card that year.
He spent the 2019 season with the Pirates and Braves. Cervelli played in a combined 43 games for both clubs and had a .213 batting average with three home runs and 12 runs batted in. He contributed for the Braves to make the postseason in 2019 as a backup catcher.
