The Miami Heat celebrated their 20th anniversary at American Airlines Arena and dropped the defending NBA champion Toronto Raptors 84-76 on Thursday night. The Heat played there first contest of the calendar year and this decade.
Toronto(23-12) was up 20-18 after one quarter, however Miami(25-9) held the Raptors season-low 39 points in the first half and led 42-39. Neither team gained ground and the Raptors still trailed 63-60 after three quarters. The Heat outscored Toronto 21-16 in the final quarter.
Bam Adebayo compiled a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds for the Heat. Goran Dragic and Tyler Herro both had 13 points. Serge Ibaka led the Raptors with 19 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
