Florida Panthers television play-by-play announcer Steve Goldstein has been named the recipient of the Florida Sportscaster of the Year Award from the National Sports Media Association. Miami Heat television play-by-play announcer Eric Reid won the award in the previous two years.
Goldstein tenure associated with the Florida Panthers goes back 23 years. He took over for Jon Sciambi as the Panthers radio studio host on 560 WQAM-AM in October 1996 and keep that role until the end of the 2003-04 season. He was promoted to radio play-by-play announcer and replaced Jiggs McDonald. Goldstein became the television play-by-play announcer on Fox Sports Florida in October 2007.
He also has done work on national radio with Westwood One. Goldstein has been the studio host of the NHL Final for the last four years.
Goldstein, a Syracuse University grad, had several stints as a sports talk host at WQAM from 1995 to 2012. People that he had hosted talk shows with included Joe Rose, Jeff DeForrest, Howard David and Adam Kuperstein. Goldstein hosted a sports show on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM during the 2004-05 NHL lockout. He did co-host a morning show with DeForrest at Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM starting in January 2013 during another NHL lockout.
