The Miami Heat held off the Dallas Mavericks 126-118 on Friday night at American Airlines Arena. It was a less hyped occasion this year because both Dwyane Wade and Dirk Nowitzki retired last season.
Both clubs were tied 31-31 after one quarter. Miami(37-22) moved ahead during the second quarter and led 63-55 at halftime. Dallas(36-24) came back and were up 93-88 at the end of three quarters. The Heat outscored the Mavs 38-25 in the final frame.
Jimmy Butler got a game-high 26 points for Miami while Duncan Robinson dropped in 24 points. Bam Adebayo completed a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Seth Curry piled on a game-high 37 points for the Mavericks while Kristaps Porzingis had 24 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.
