The Florida Panthers visited the defending Stanley Cup champions and handled the St. Louis Blues 2-1 at Enterprise Center on Monday night. The Panthers are now one point behind for a playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
The contest was shifted to one day earlier last month. It was due to the cancellation of a game involving the Blues at Anaheim on February 11 when Jay Bouwmeester suffered an emergency health problem on the team bench.
St. Louis(41-19-10) moved up to a 1-0 lead with 8:40 left in the second period. Robert Thomas flipped a cross-ice pass from the left point and Colton Parayko blasted a slap shot from above the right circle past Chris Driedger.
Florida(35-26-8) responded back on the power play with 3:48 to go and tied the contest 1-1. Aleksi Saarela controlled the puck on the left wing and sent a cross-ice pass through the left circle. Mike Hoffman snapped shot from the right-circle dot by Jordan Binnington for his 29th goal of the season. It was the eighth goal in the last 11 games for Hoffman.
The Panthers pulled ahead 2-1 at the 4:23 mark of the third period. Saarela outraced Vince Dunn around the Blues cage for the loose puck, connected a pass across the blue paint from the right goal line and Brett Connolly scored on a wrist shot from below the left circle.
