Major League Soccer announced last week a tournament to restart the 2020 season. It would be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex outside of Orlando. It begins July 8 in a contest between Inter Miami CF and Orlando City SC.
The MLS Tournament would be contested by all 26 clubs in the league. The top two clubs in each group will move on along with four other third-place teams into the round-of-16.
All the teams were be separated into six groups. Inter Miami CF was placed in the only group of six clubs with Orlando City SC, New York City FC, Philadelphia Union, Chicago Fire FC and Nashville SC. The other 20 teams were placed in groups of four.
The major problem for Inter Miami CF and other organizations in their group is that they have less than a 50% chance to advance into the knockout round. Teams in the other group will have at least a 66% chance to get past the group stage.
