Gio Gonzalez announced he is retiring from Major League Baseball on Thursday afternoon. He agreed to a minor league deal in early March with the Miami Marlins and to attend their spring training camp in Jupiter.
Gonzalez, a Hialeah native, participated in the majors for 13 seasons. He played for the Oakland A's, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox. Gonzalez finished with a 131-101 career record, 3.70 earned-run-average and 1,860 strikeouts.
