Neither team scored during the first period. Chicago(14-10-5) made it 1-0 just 28 seconds into the second period. Brandon Hagel passed the puck to his left where Dominik Kubalik got it in the left circle. He returned it to him for a one-time tap shot from the top of the crease past Sergei Bobrovsky. Hagel collected his second career goal and his first tally in the last nine games.
Florida(18-5-4) tied in up 1-1 at the 7:46 mark of the second. Aleksander Barkov forwarded a pass from the left circle to Anthony Duclair in the left corner and he returned it on a give-and-go. Barkov flicked a soft shot which was saved by Kevin Lankinen, however Barkov snapped in the rebound from the top of the crease. It was his 10th goal this season and has a point in eight of the last nine contests.
The Panthers moved in front 2-1 with 9:00 remaining in the frame. Barkov knocked the puck to MacKenzie Weegar in the right circle. Carter Verhaeghe charged in and blasted a slap shot from the high slot for his 10th tally of the year. Weegar increased his point streak up to four games.
It became 3-1 for the Cats with 7:31 to go. Owen Tippett backhanded a centering pass from the end wall and Frank Vartrano scored from the crease area for his 10th goal of the campaign. Tippett was able to extend his point streak to three games while Vatrano found the net for the second straight contest.
In the third period, Florida expanded it to a three-goal margin at 10:01. Verhaeghe send a cross-ice pass from the left point to Duclair on the right point. He angled a pass to Barkov in the slot area and he scored on a snap shot for his second goal of the game.
The Blackhawks cut it down to 4-2 with 1:32 left in the third. Patrick Kane moved the puck back from the right circle, Duncan Keith fed the puck from the right point and Adam Boqvist ripped a slap shot from the top of the zone for his second tally this year.
