Marlins Outscore Phillies
The Miami Marlins outlasted the Philadelphia Phillies 11-6 on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The deciding contest of the three-game series between both clubs will be on Thursday.
Jonathan Huberdeau NHL Second All-Star Team
Florida Panthers left wing Jonathan Huberdeau was named to the 2020-21 NHL Second All-Star Team. It is the first time that he has received that honor.
Huberdeau had 20 goals and 41 assists in 55 games last season. He has played the last nine seasons with the club. Huberdeau has 168 goals and 330 assists for 498 points in 591 contests with the team. He is the Florida Panthers all-time leader in assists, points and even-strength goals.

Phillies Push By Marlins
The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 4-3 at Citizens Bank Park on Tuesday night. It was the first contest of a six-game road trip for the Marlins. Both clubs combined for only seven hits in the game.
Philadelphia(37-40) rolled out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Andrew McCutchen knocked in Jean Segura on a base hit into left field.
The Phillies made it 2-0 in the sixth inning. Rhys Hoskins blasted a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-1 pitch for his 17th homer of the season.
Miami(33-45) surrendered two runs in the bottom of the seventh and trailed 4-0. Odubel Herrera connected with a double off the right-center wall for Brad Miller to score. Herrera later scored on a wild pitch.
The Marlins prevented the shutout during the eighth inning. They had the bases loaded when Jon Berti crossed the plate on a wild pitch.
The Fish got a rally in the top of the ninth, but they fell short. After Jesus Aguilar singled up the middle, Adam Duvall came up a lifted a two-run homer over the center-field wall on a 1-1 count and they were down 4-3. It was the 17th home run of the year for Duvall.
Bob Wischusen Adds ESPN Hockey
Former Miami radio sportscaster Bob Wischusen has added duties as a National Hockey League play-by-play announcer for ESPN beginning next season. ESPN recently signed a seven-year deal to become the primary television network of the NHL.
Wischusen, a Boston College grad, was first noticed locally on Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM. He started off at that radio station as a producer and weekend sports host. Wishcusen later became the morning sports anchor for The First Team and the afternoon sports anchor for the Hank Goldberg Show.
He moved on to New York City and was employed at WFAN-AM as a sports anchor and sports host. He shifted to MSG Network as a sports anchor at MSG Sportsdesk and a backup play-by-play announcer of the New York Rangers.
Wischusen was named the radio voice of the New York Jets in 2002, when he replaced Howard David, and still holds that position. He also has a long stint as an ESPN college basketball and college football play-by-play announcer.
Panthers Name Tuomo Ruutu Assistant Coach
The Florida Panthers have named Tuomo Ruutu as an assistant coach. He will part of the coaching staff under head coach Joel Quenneville.
Ruutu was the assistant director of player development with the New York Rangers last season and spent the last two years with that club. He did have a 12-season career in the National Hockey League and compiled 346 points in 735 games. Ruutu played for the Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils.
South Florida Will Not Get All-Star Game
South Florida will not have the National Hockey League All-Star Game in the near future. The region was to have the event during the 2020-21 campaign, however a combination of factors over the past year that included the coronavirus pandemic and the shortened schedule for the recent regular season scrapped those plans last October.
National Hockey League commissioner Gary Bettman mentioned in an address that Las Vegas will host the 2022 NHL All-Star Game. Sunrise was the host of the NHL All-Star Game back in 2003.
Miami Marlins Acquire Joe Panik
The Miami Marlins have traded outfielder Corey Dickerson and pitcher Adam Cimber to the Toronto Blue Jays for second baseman Joe Panik and a minor league prospect.
Panik broke into the majors with the San Francisco Giants and was with them for six seasons. He also had stints with the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays. Panik has a .246 batting average, two home runs and 11 runs batted in this year.
Dickerson was in the middle of his second season with the Marlins. He helped the club reach the postseason for the first time since 2003.

Panthers Share AHL Affiliate With Seattle Kraken
The Florida Panthers will share their American Hockey League club the Charlotte Checkers with the Seattle Kraken for the 2021-22 season. Charlotte was the Panthers AHL affiliate last season, however they suspended hockey operations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Seattle Kraken are expected to have their minor league prospects in Charlotte for just one season. The new arena for their upcoming AHL affiliate in Palm Springs, California has not been completely built.

Nationals Down Marlins
The Washington Nationals dropped the Miami Marlins 5-1 at loanDepot park on Sunday. Both clubs ended up splitting the four-game series.
Washington(37-38) had a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Josh Harrison drove in Kyle Schwarber on a base hit through the left side.
Miami(33-44) was able to tie it 1-1 in the bottom of the frame. Jesus Aguilar doubled into the left-field corner and Jazz Chisholm Jr. raced home.
In the fifth inning, the Nationals compiled four runs with none out. Trea Turner, a Park Vista High School grad, cracked a two-run homer to right-center field on a 0-1 count with Schwarber on base. It was the 12th home run of the season for Turner. Two batters later, Josh Bell smashed a two-run homer over the left-center field fence on a 1-1 pitch with Juan Soto aboard for his 11th home run of the year.
No Locals On Phil Steele Magazine Cover Again
There were no players with local South Florida high school or Florida college connections on the 2021 Phil Steele's College Football Preview magazine cover. It was the second straight year that it happened. The publication had just one national cover with no regional covers just like in 2020.
At least one local player appeared on the Phil Steele magazine cover from 2010 until 2019. Jacory Harris of the University of Miami and Miami Northwestern was on the SEC/ACC/Big East cover in 2010.

Marlins Get By Nationals
The Miami Marlins held off the Washington Nationals 3-2 at loanDepot park on Saturday. The Marlins won consecutive games for the first time in two weeks.
Washington(36-38) started ahead 1-0 in the top of the first. Juan Soto drove in Park Vista High School grad Trea Turner with a double into left field.
Miami(33-43) responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and took the lead. Starling Marte grounded out to second for Jazz Chisholm Jr. to score. Three batters later, Miguel Rojas knocked in Jesus Aguilar on a single to right.
The Nationals evened it up 2-2 in the fourth inning. Starlin Castro doubled to center for Yan Gomes to cross the plate.
The Marlins pulled ahead in the fifth inning 3-2. Jon Berti smashed a solo home run over the right-field wall on a 2-0 pitch for his fourth homer of the year.
Inter Miami CF Audio Studio Show Change
Inter Miami CF has made a change in their audio game broadcasts on their team website. They eliminated some of their on-air personnel from their pregame, intermission and postgame shows.
Orlando Alzugaray and Alex Donno were no longer being heard on the game broadcasts. Onside Radio stopped broadcasting their games and ended their operations earlier this month.
Audio play-by-play announcer Chris Wittyngham along with game analysts Thomas Rongen and Fernando Fiore announced the contest and were the studio hosts of the Inter Miami CF game on Friday night against Orlando City SC in Fort Lauderdale.

Marlins Rout Nationals
The Miami Marlins smashed the Washington Nationals 11-2 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marlins have won three of their last 11 games.
Orlando City SC Pass By Inter Miami CF
Orlando City SC came back on Inter Miami CF 2-1 on Friday night at DRV PNK Stadium. Inter Miami CF extend their losing streak to four games. Orlando City SC was victorious in Fort Lauderdale for the first time in three occasions.
There was no scoring in the first half between both clubs. There would be plenty of goals in the second half.
The tie was broken by Inter Miami CF in the 67th minute as Gonzalo Higuain scored with a right-footed shot from 27 yards out. It was the team's first goal in the last four contests.
Orlando City SC evened it 1-1 as Chris Mueller put in a right-foot volley from 12 yards away during the 73rd minute. It became 2-1 for Orlando City SC in the 80th minute when Nani powered a 19-yard shot with his right foot from left side.

Nationals Knock Off Marlins
The Washington Nationals topped the Miami Marlins 7-3 on Thursday night at loanDepot park. It was the first contest of a four-game series between both clubs.
Washington(36-36) piled on five runs during the first two innings of the game. Kyle Schwarber bashed a solo home run to left field in the top of the first on a 2-2 pitch.
Schwarber hit a three-run shot in the next inning with Josh Harrison and Victor Robles aboard. The ball went over the center-field fence on a 0-2 count. It was the 21st homer of the season for Schwarber. Juan Soto later knocked in Trea Turner with a double into center field.
The Nationals eventually had a seven-run cushion after seven innings. Miami(31-43) compiled three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Jazz Chisholm Jr. powered a three-run homer to right-center field on a 2-2 pitch. Jon Berti and Luis Marte both scored in front of him on the play.
Alex Donno Adds Another Five Reasons Podcast
Alex Donno will soon begin a weekday midday show named The Donno Daily on Five Reasons Sports Network in late July. Producers and on-air sidekicks on the new program will be Manny Chang and Sean Stanley.
Donno finished a run as a sports host on Onside Radio earlier this month. He was the early afternoon and mid-afternoon host of The Man Of The Match when the organization launched in October 2020. Donno was shifted to afternoons in January.
He continues as the co-host of The 5 Rings podcast with Larry Blustein on Five Reasons Sports Network. Donno had previous stints with Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM and 560 WQAM-AM.
Anthony Milian Debuts On Slam Radio
Anthony Milian debuted in a new midday show on Slam Radio at SiriusXM Radio on Thursday. It is called The Dos Amigos Next Generation. Milian is the student sports director of Slam Radio.
The Dos Amigos brand has been known in South Florida for over 15 years. The new program consists of Milian, his father Larry Milian, Alex Donno, Frank Fernandez and Amanda Marie.
Dos Amigos started when Larry Milian and Alan Strauss won an on-air tryout contest at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM in late 2005. They were given a weekend show and were later elevated to the late night shift.

Blue Jays Sweep Marlins
The Miami Marlins lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park and were swept in the two-game series. The Fish have fallen in seven of their last nine games.
Toronto(37-35) rocketed up to a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Teoscar Hernnadez knocked in Bo Bichette on a double to right field. George Springer came up next and grounded out to first for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to score.
It became a three-run margin for the Blue Jays during the top of the fifth. Bichette singled into left field and Marcus Semien crossed the plate.
Miami(31-42) got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth. Startling Marte belted a solo home run to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch. It was the sixth homer for Marte this season.

1210 The Man Finished
1210 The Man WNMA-AM had their talk format end on that radio station this week. It was flipped to Spanish language Christian music and rebranded Radio Oasis 1210. Some of the recent 1210 The Man shows will now be streamed online.
Tony Calatayud launched 1210 The Man in March 2019 as president, ceo and late morning co-host. It was a mix of sports talk and hot talk programs.
The Big O Orlando Alzaugaray came aboard as their station manager and afternoon host. Other weekday hosts included Anthony Calatayud, Lisa Concepcion, Jim Rodriguez and Boss Lady. Weekend sports hosts consisted of The Amigo Larry Milian, Jeff Fox and Gigi Fontaine. Former 560 WQAM staffers Robert Grieper, Carlos Pickerie and Sean Stanley all joined the organization as producers.
Other personnel would be added as on-air talent over the next two years. They included J.T. Wilcox, Pickerie, Suga, Liz Garcia, Brett Romberg and Dan Sileo.
Blue Jays Squeeze By Marlins
The Toronto Blue Jays edged the Miami Marlins 2-1 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins have lost six of their last eight contests.
Miami(31-41) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Jesus Sanchez connected with a solo home run to center field on a 2-1 pitch for his second homer of the campaign.
Toronto(36-35) tied it up 1-1 in the top of the sixth. Vladimir Guererro Jr. knocked in Bo Bichette with a base hit into right field.
In the ninth inning, the Blue Jays took their only lead. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. doubled to deep left and Cavan Biggio crossed the plate.
Baltimore Ravens Waive Donte Sylencieux
The Baltimore Ravens have waived wide receiver Donte Sylencieux. He was on the Ravens injured reserve list. Sylencieux attended Graceland University and signed as an unrestricted free agent on May 14.
Sylencieux has a connection with one of the top players in the National Football League. He was the primary wide receiver and teammate of Lamar Jackson when both played for the Boynton Beach Tigers in 2013 and 2014. The school finished as a district runner-up both seasons and lost in the first round of the FHSAA Playoffs to the Miami Central Rockets.

WQAM Adding BetQL Network
560 The Joe WQAM-AM will soon be adding BetQL Network programming. It is not known when it will air on that radio station. It is expected to cut into some of the programming piped in from ESPN Radio.
BetQL Network launched in January and is a part of WQAM's parent company Audacy. Their shows emphasize sports betting content. It will be interesting how BetQL will transcend in Miami considering that sports betting is illegal in the state of Florida.

Cubs Stop Marlins
The Chicago Cubs defeated the Miami Marlins 2-0 at Wrigley Field on Sunday. The Marlins outscored the Cubs 21-3 in the previous two games. Miami(31-40) finished their six-game road trip with a 2-4 record.
The Cubs got out in front 1-0 in the bottom of the third. Jason Heyward was able to score on a passed ball.
Chicago(40-32) made it a two-run gap in the fifth inning. Joe Pederson singled through the right side for Patrick Wisdom to score.

Marlins Pound Cubs Again
The Miami Marlins wiped out the Chicago Cubs for the second straight game. This time it was 11-1 on Saturday at Wrigley Field. Miami(31-39) has outscored Chicago(39-32) 21-3 in the last two games and have taken the three-game series.
D.C. United Shut Out Inter Miami CF
Inter Miami CF returned back to the field on Saturday and were defeated by D.C. United 1-0 on Saturday night. It was the first MLS contest for Inter Miami CF since May 29 when they lost at home to D.C. United.
The losing streak for Inter Miami CF extended to three games. They have been outscored 9-3 in their last five MLS games.
There was only one goal in the game. Ola Kamara was able to put in a tally in the 72nd minute for D.C. United during the second half for the victory.

Marlins Smash Cubs
The Miami Marlins routed the Chicago Cubs 10-2 at Wrigley Field on Friday night. The Marlins were able to snap a four-game losing streak. The Cubs have lost four of their last five contests.
Miami(30-39) piled on five runs during the top of the third to take a 5-1 lead. Chicago(39-31) answered back with one run in the bottom of the third.
Aleksander Barkov Wins Frank J. Selke Trophy
Florida Panthers center Aleksander Barkov captured the Frank J. Selke Trophy for the 2020-21 season on Friday night. The trophy is given to the best defensive forward during the regular season.
It was the second major National Hockey League trophy for Barkov in his career. He got the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy back in 2018-19. He was the first Florida player to win the Frank J. Selke Trophy.
He became the fifth player in NHL history to win both the Frank J. Selke Trophy and Lady Byng Memorial Trophy. Barkov joins Ron Francis, Pavel Datsyuk, Anze Kopitar and Ryan O'Reilly,
Barkov played in 50 contests for the Panthers in 2020-21. He had 26 goals and 32 assists totaling 58 points along with 39 takeaways on defense.

Kylie Rae Wang Joins Pittsburgh Steelers
Local South Florida journalist Kylie Rae Wang has joined the Pittsburgh Steelers organization. She will be a part of their communications and public relations department.
Wang, a 2021 University of Miami grad, leaves her staff position at Five Reasons Sports Network. She covered numerous local clubs including the Miami Dolphins and Florida Panthers.
She also did freelance work for other organizations. They included stints with USA Today, Miami Herald and Coral Gables Magazine.
West Palm Beach Ratings May 2021
The West Palm Beach market received their ratings for sports talk format radio stations. The time period happened from the last week in April to the last week of May.
Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM rose to a 0.3 after five consecutive months at a 0.2. It was their best ratings since December 2020. The New York Yankees showed some improvement and climbed out from a horrible start to begin the 2021 season. The Florida Panthers finished second in the Central Division, fourth overall in the National Hockey League and were ousted in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Sports Radio 1230 The Zone WBZT-AM remained at a 0.0 again for a fourth straight month and the 14th occasion in the past 15 months. The Miami Marlins had a average record in the National League and the radio station did not have any University of Florida spring sports broadcasts.
Bill Zito Jim Gregory Award Finalist
Florida Panthers general manager Bill Zito has been named a finalist for the Jim Gregory General Manger of the Year Award. The other finalist are Lou Lamoriello of the New York Islanders and Marc Bergevin of the Montreal Canadiens.
Zito was named Florida Panthers general manager on September 2, 2020. He guided the Panthers to a second-place finish in Central Division with a 37-14-5record. Florida ended up with the fourth most points during the 2020-21 regular season with 78 points.
Kaiir Elam On More Magazine Covers
University of Florida Gators defensive back Kaiir Elam showed up on the front cover of another annual college football magazine. Elam was on the Florida edition of Lindy's Sports Southeastern magazine.
Elam, who played high school football with the Benjamin Buccaneers, has made it a clean sweep so far for 2021. He has been on the Florida region national issue cover of Athlon Sports and Lindy's Sports. He also was on the Athlon Sports SEC cover for Florida.
Tua Tagovailoa On Lindy's Sports Magazine Cover
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa appeared on the magazine cover of Lindy's Sports magazine. It was the South Florida edition on the National Football League.
Tagovailoa also was on the front cover of another annual NFL magazine. He was shown on the South Florida edition of Athlon Sports.

Pelicans Fire Stan Van Gundy
The New Orleans Pelicans fired head coach Stan Van Gundy. He only worked one season with the club and had a 31-41 record.
Van Gundy had previous stints as a NBA head coach. He got his first opportunity with the Miami Heat. The club reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2004-05 and lost to Detroit Pistons. Van Gundy was let go during the 2005-06 campaign and was replaced by Pat Riley. The Heat would go on and capture their first NBA championship later that season.
His next stop was with the Orlando Magic and stayed there from 2007 to 2012. He coached the Detroit Pistons from 2014 to 2018.
Cardinals Blank Marlins
The St. Louis Cardinals shut out the Miami Marlins 1-0 at Busch Stadium on Wednesday. The Cardinals were able to sweep the three-game series against Miami(29-39). The Marlins continue on the road to challenge the Chicago Cubs this weekend.
St. Louis(35-33) got their second straight walk-off victory over the Marlins. In the ninth inning, Yadier Molina singled down the left-field line with one out and Paul Goldschmidt scored the only run.

Cardinals Top Marlins
The St. Louis Cardinals got by the Miami Marlins 2-1 on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium. The Marlins have lost three straight games.
Miami(29-38) started ahead 1-0 in the top of the third. Adam Duvall picked up a base hit into left field and Starling Marte crossed the plate.
St. Louis(34-33) evened it up 1-1 in the sixth inning. Paul Goldschmidt singled through the right side for Jose Rondon to score.
The Cardinals got the final run during the bottom of the ninth. Goldschmidt led off with a walk-off solo home run to right-center field on a 1-2 pitch. It was the ninth home run of the season for Goldschmidt.
Jimmy Butler All-NBA Third Team
The National Basketball Association announced their All-NBA teams for the 2020-21 season. Jimmy Butler of the Miami Heat landed on the All-NBA Third Team as a forward with 131 votes.
The Heat almost had another player end up on the Third Team. Center Bam Adebayo compiled 32 points and fell short by 16 votes behind Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz.
Miami Ratings May 2021
The ratings were issued for sports talk format radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale region. The time span went from the last week of April until the last week of May.
Sports Talk 790 The Ticket broke a first place tie and finished on top as they moved from a 0.7 to a 0.8 in the month. It was the second time in four months that The Ticket ended up alone in first place. It will be for last complete period that Amber Wilson co-hosts the midday show with Jonathan Zaslow. The Miami Heat finished sixth in the Eastern Conference. They began a first-round postseason series versus the Milwaukee Bucks in a rematch from last year.
560 The Joe WQAM-AM stayed at a 0.7 in the period. The Florida Panthers finished impressively during the regular season with the fourth best point total in the National Hockey League. They were eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning.
Miami Sports 940 WINZ-AM remained the same with a 0.2 for the third consecutive month. The Miami Marlins stayed near a.500 winning percentage during the period.
Drew Shore Retires
Former Florida Panthers forward Drew Shore has announced his retirement. He returned to the National Hockey League in 2020-21 after a three-season absence. Shore had no points in four contests with the Carolina Hurricanes this season.
Shore was selected by the Florida Panthers in the second round of the 2009 NHL Draft. He went on to play for two seasons with the Panthers in 2012-13 and 2013-14. Shore compiled eight goals and 12 assists in 67 games with the Cats.
Lucas Wallmark Leaves For KHL
Lucas Wallamark has left the Florida Panthers for the second time in less than one year. He has signed a one-year contract with CSKA Moscow in the Kontinental Hockey League.
Wallamark finished his second stint with the Panthers. He was acquired by the Cats from the Chicago Blackhawks for Brett Connolly, Riley Stillman and Henrik Borgstrom in a five-player deal. He compiled no points in four games with Florida.
He was traded by the Carolina Hurricanes to the Panthers for Vincent Trocheck in a five-player trade back in February 24, 2020. He had one goal and one assist in seven contests during his first stint with the team.
Heat Players Make All-NBA Defensive Team
The National Basketball Association released their first, second and third all-defensive teams for the 2020-21 season. Two Miami Heat players were selected for the NBA Defensive Second Team.
Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo both received 111 votes which included 37 first-team votes. Butler made an All-NBA Defensive Team for the fifth time in his NBA career. Adebayo has twice been picked to the All-NBA Defensive Second Team.

Cardinals Outlast Marlins
The St. Louis Cardinals slipped by the Miami Marlins 4-2 at Busch Stadium on Monday night. It was the beginning of a six-game road trip for the Marlins.
St. Louis(33-33) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Edmundo Sosa knocked in Yadier Molina on a base hit into left field.
Miami(29-37) picked up two runs in the top of the third for a 2-1 lead. Jazz Chisholm Jr. got a two-run single through the left side for Jon Berti and Starling Marte to score.
The Cardinals tied it up 2-2 during the fifth inning. Paul Goldschmidt drove in Tommy Edman with a single into left field.
The Redbirds moved ahead with two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Tyler hit a double off the top of the left-field wall for Dylan Carlson to score. Paul DeJong would ground out softly down the first-base line and Goldschmidt reached home.

Orlando Alzugaray has returned to the microphone with his own podcast. He will start a daily podcast beginning on Tuesday at 11AM. Alzugaray stopped announcing a podcast back in December 2020 to concentrate on Onside Radio management and on-air duties.
Alzugaray was recently heard on Onside Radio from October 2020 until earlier this month. He previously had stints as a sports talk host on 560 WQAM-AM, 640 WMEN-AM, SiriusXM Radio and 1210 WNMA-AM. Alzugaray was also a studio co-host of Inter Miami CF audio game broadcasts on Onside Radio with Alex Donno and Fernando Fiore.
Yianni Kourakis New WPBF-TV Sportscaster
WPBF-TV Channel 25 in West Palm Beach will be launching a sports department on their newscasts. Sports segments will return to the television station in July. It has been over a decade that WPBF-TV had sportscasters on their staff led by Jim Abath.
Yianni Kourakis, a University of Maryland grad, was hired to be their weekend sports anchor and weekday sports reporter. He has been a sports director and sportscaster at WPRI-TV in Providence for the past eight years.
New York Rangers To Hire Gerard Gallant
The New York Rangers are about to hire Gerard Gallant as their new head coach. He recently guided Team Canada to the IIHF World Championship in Latvia earlier this month.
Gallant was the head coach of the Florida Panthers for two-plus seasons. He helped the Panthers reach the 100-point mark in the regular season for the first time and captured the Atlantic Division title in 2015-16.
He became the first head coach of the Vegas Golden Knights. They eventually won the Western Conference championship in their first season of existence in 2017-18. Gallant and his team lost to the Washington Capitals in the Stanley Cup Final.
Jermaine Eluemunor Signs With Dolphins
Offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor has signed a deal with the Miami Dolphins. He spent the last two seasons with the New England Patriots and participated in 22 games.
Eluemunor began his National Football League career with the Baltimore Ravens in 2017. He had a two-year stint there playing in 17 contests.
Marlins Acquire Lorenzo Quintana
The Miami Marlins have acquired catcher Lorenzo Quintana from the Houston Astros. He has never played a contest in Major League Baseball.
Quintana has spent the 2021 season with the Astros Triple-A team in Sugar Land. He had a .311 batting average, .372 on-base percentage and .340 OPS in 28 games. He will be assigned to the Marlins Triple-A club in Jacksonville.

Dolphins Extend Jerome Baker
The Miami Dolphins have extended the contract of linebacker Jerome Baker. It is a three-year extension worth $39 million.
Baker was selected by the Dolphins in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He had 111 total tackles and seven sacks in 16 games last seasson.
Braves Jump On Marlins
The Atlanta Braves topped the Miami Marlins 6-4 at loanDepot park on Sunday. The Marlins will go on the road and head for St. Louis to face the Cardinals. The Braves were able to snap a four-game losing streak.
Atlanta(30-33) rocketed out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Austin Riley knocked in Ronald Acuna Jr. and Freddie Freeman with a base hit into center field. Guillermo Heredia was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Abraham Almonte scored.
It became 4-0 for the Bravos during the top of the fourth. Riley sliced a 3-2 pitch over the right-field wall for a solo home run. It was the 12th homer for Riley this season.
The Braves make it 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning. Kevan Smith drove in Riley on a single into left field.
Miami(29-36) scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and trailed 5-2. Starling Marte got a base hit to left field and Jon Berti reached home. Marte would later cross the plate on a wild pitch.
In the sixth inning, Atlanta made it a four-run cushion. Ender Inciarte compiled his first home run of the year which ended beyond the right-field fence on a 1-1 count.
The Marlins cut it to 6-4 in the bottom of the eighth. Marte picked up a two-run single up the middle for Isan Diaz and Jazz Chisholm Jr. to score.

Several NFL players with local ties appeared on the magazine cover of Athlon Sports in different National Football League markets.
Former South Florida high school players include Lamar Jackson of the Boynton Beach Tigers and Baltimore Ravens. Dalvin Cook of the Miami Central Rockets and Minnesota Vikings along with Khalil Mack of the Fort Pierce Westwood Panthers and Chicago Bears also show up on the cover.
Tua Tagovailoa On Athlon Sports Magazine Cover
Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa showed up on the annual magazine cover of Athlon Sports. The specific cover represented the Miami Dolphins.
Tagovailoa played in 10 games during his rookie season last year with the Dolphins. He compiled 186 completions for 1,814 passing yards and 11 touchdowns.

Amber Wilson Leaving 790 The Ticket
Amber Wilson will be leaving her position as midday co-host on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM. Her final day at that radio station will be on June 18. She will continue to co-host a weekend show on ESPN Radio.
Wilson, a University of Florida grad, has been part of The Ticket for the past five years since March 2016. She was named the replacement of Joy Taylor on the morning shift in early 2016. She co-hosted the morning show with Jonathan Zaslow, Brett Romberg and Brendan Tobin. The program with Zaslow and Wilson was shifted to the midday time slot in August 2019.
She was part of CBS Sports Interactive from 2006 until 2008 and Open Sports with Sid Rosenberg from 2008 to 2009. Wilson hosted Beer Money on SNY in New York City from 2010 to 2011. She returned to Miami and was the weekend studio co-host of Sports Bang with Steve Goldstein and Stugotz Jon Weiner on WFOR-TV Channel 4.
Joel Quenneville Jack Adams Award Finalist
Florida Panthers head coach Joel Quenneville was named a finalist for the Jack Adams Award. Quenneville led the Panthers to second place in the Central Division with 78 points in 2020-21 for their highest point percentage of .705 in franchise history. It was the fourth most points by a team this season. Quenneville won the award with the St. Louis Blues back in 2000.
The Jack Adams Award is given to the head coach who contributed the most to the team's success during the regular season. Rod Brind'Amour of the Carolina Hurricanes and Dean Evason of the Minnesota Wild were the other two finalists.

Marlins Smoke Through Rockies
The Miami Marlins pounded the Colorado Rockies 11-4 at loanDepot park on Thursday night. The Marlins, who have won three of their last five games, next face the Atlanta Braves this weekend. It was the 30th anniversary that Miami and Denver were both awarded Major League Baseball expansion franchises.
Miami(27-35) broke out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Adam Duvall connected with a two-run homer to left field on the first pitch. Corey Dickerson was able to score in front of him on the play. It was the second straight contest that Duvall homered against the Rockies. Duvall compiled his 11th home run of the year.
The Marlins expanded the gap to 5-0 when Jazz Chisholm belted a three-run homer to right field on a 0-2 count with Jose Devers and Jon Berti aboard. Starling Marte followed with a solo home run over the center-field fence on a 2-1 pitch for his fifth homer of the campaign.
It became 8-0 for the Marlins in the fifth inning. Devers drove in Jorge Alfaro on a single to shallow right-center. Berti came up next and lined a double into right-center field for Devers to cross the plate.
Colorado(25-38) gave up three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 11-0. Chisholm reached home on a passed ball by Elias Diaz. Jesus Aguilar later knocked in Marte with a double to the left-field corner. Three batters later, Alfaro singled through the left side and Lewin Diaz scored.
The Rockies broke the shutout in the seventh inning. Brendan Rodgers lifted a solo home run to left-center field on the first pitch. They got another tally when Yonathan Daza grounded out to third for Trevor Story to score.
In the eighth inning, Colorado added two more runs and were down 11-4. Rodgers ripped a base hit through the left side and C.J. Cron reached home. Two batters later, Ryan McMahon hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Raimel Tapia scored.
Philadelphia Eagles Waive Trevon Grimes
The Philadelphia Eagles have waived wide receiver Trevon Grimes. He was designated injured by the club.
Grimes played high school football with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and helped them win three consecutive FHSAA Class 7A state championships from 2014 to 2016. He split his time in college football with Ohio State and Florida.
Marlins 30th Anniversary In Existence
Thursday marked the 30th anniversary that major league baseball was coming to South Florida. Major League Baseball awarded a National League expansion team to H. Wayne Huizenga on June 10, 1991. It would be named the Florida Marlins.
It took some time for the club to be put together business and baseball operations departments. They did have a minor league team in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1992.
The Florida Marlins played their first major league game at Joe Robbie Stadium on April 5, 1993. Charlie Hough started their first contest on the mound as the Marlins defeated the Los Angeles Dodgets 6-3.
The Marlins won two World Series championships in franchise history. They edged the Cleveland Indians 4-3 in 1997 and upset the New York Yankees 4-2 in 2003.
The team moved to a new stadium called Marlins Park in 2012. They would be renamed the Miami Marlins prior to that season.

Rockies Edge Marlins
The Colorado Rockies dropped the Miami Marlins 4-3 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins have lost 10 of their last 12 games.
In the first inning, the Rockies leaped to a 1-0 lead. Charlie Blackmon knocked in Raimel Tapia with a base hit to center field.
Colorado(25-37) extended their lead to 2-0 in the top of the third. Yonathan Daza singled into center field for Blackmon to score.
Both teams scored one run during the fifth inning. Tapia scored on a wild pitch for Colorado. The Fish got their first run of the contest when Jon Berti reached home on a Jazz Chisholm Jr. single to left field.
The Rockies made it 4-1 in the top of the sixth. Connor Joe brought in Brendan Rodgers on a ground out to short.
Miami(26-35) compiled two runs in the bottom of the sixth and were down 4-3. Adam Duvall pounded a two-run homer to left-center field on a 0-2 pitch with Corey Dickerson aboard. It was the 10th home run for Duvall with his new club this season.
Marlins 60 Game Comparison
The Miami Marlins are at the 60-game mark for the 2021 regular season. It can be compared to last year in the pandemic shortened MLB season.
The Marlins have a 26-34 record so far in their 2021 campaign and are currently 6 1/2 games behind for first place in the National League East and nine games back for a National League wild-card spot.
Miami finished with a 31-29 record in 2020 for second place inside their division. They made their first postseason appearance since 2003 and reached the postseason for the third time in franchise history. It was their first season with a winning record since 2009.
Dolphins Ink Jaelan Phillips
The Miami Dolphins have signed defensive lineman Jaelan Phillips to a four-year rookie deal. The amount of the contract is $14 million with a $7.5 million signing bonus.
Phillips was selected by the Dolphins with 18th overall pick during the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He had eight sacks, 45 total tackles and 15 1/2 tackles of loss last season with the University of Miami Hurricanes.

The Miami Marlins returned from a nine-game road trip and stopped the Colorado Rockies 6-2 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Fish have won two of their last three contests.
Colorado(24-37) went out in front 1-0 in the top of the first. Ryan McMahon grounded out to the pitcher for Garrett Hampson to score.
Miami(26-34) ripped by with four runs during the third inning for a 4-1 lead. Jesus Aguilar knocked in Jon Berti on a sacrifice fly to center field. Corey Dickerson followed with a triple to deep right for Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Starling Marte to score. Adam Duvall then singled to left and Dickerson crossed the plate.

Onside Radio Ends
Onside Radio stopped streaming their broadcasts and podcasts on Monday. It ended an eight-month run for the organization that began in October 2020.
Inter Miami CF audio game broadcasts were carried by Onside Radio during the 2021 season. They will continue on the Inter Miami CF website when the club plays their next contest on June 19.
Onside Radio was a different concept that wanted to challenge the numerous sports talk format radio stations in the South Florida market. They had experienced local sports talk hosts Orlando Alzugaray and Alex Donno leading the way. Other weekday talent on the station included Ethan Skolnick, Kaylyn Kyle, Manny Navarro, Toast, Marsh, Kai'Chien Chisholm and the Lemon City Live crew.
They did have exclusive contributor segments from Ira Winderman and Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Producers and weekend hosts who helped out were Sean Stanley, Tito Benach, Parker Starson, Alex Aguirre, David Dwork and Austin Robillard.
Andre Fernandez Heads To Tallahassee
Miami sportswriter Andre Fernandez will be leaving the local region. He will be joining the Tallahassee Democrat as their new Florida State University beat reporter.
Fernandez was the Miami Herald lead high school sports reporter until early 2018. He was elevated to Miami Marlins beat reporter position for the 2018 season. Fernandez became the Miami Heat beat writer for The Athletic Miami in September 2018 and stayed there until June 2020.
He was part of the FrontPage305 podcast alongside Manny Navarro and Walter Villa in 2020 and 2021. Fernandez recently worked as a freelance writer on Miami sporting events.
Red Sox Race By Marlins
The Miami Marlins finished off a nine-game road trip with a 5-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Monday night. It was a make-up game because their contest on May 30 was postponed. The Marlins ended up with a 1-8 record on the road and return home Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies.
Boston(37-23) got up 1-0 during the first inning in an unusual way. Marlins pitcher Zach Thompson, who made his major league debut, threw a wild pitch that went off catcher Jorge Alfaro and rolled to 15 feet in front of home plate. Xander Bogeaerts dove on home from third with nobody covering.
The Red Sox increased it to 2-0 in the third inning. Alex Verdugo sliced a double into the left-field corner to score Christian Arroyo.
Miami(25-34) placed one run in the top of the fourth. Alfaro singled into center field for Adam Duvall to reach home.
It became 5-1 for Boston in the bottom of the fourth as they compiled three more runs. Arroyo got a base hit to right as Kevin Plawecki and Enrique Hernandez scored. Verdugo came up next and knocked in Arroyo with a single to right field.
The Marlins made it 5-2 in the fifth inning. Starling Marte lifted a solo home run over the center-field wall for his fourth homer of the year.
The Fish attempted to come back in the top of the ninth. Isan Diaz doubled against the shift down the third-base line for Corey Dickerson to score. Miami left the tying on second to end the game.
Jimmy Cefalo Returns To WIOD
Miami Dolphins radio play-by-play announcer Jimmy Cefalo returned to his morning show at News Radio 610 WIOD-AM on Monday after being absent for the last couple of weeks. He has been diagnosed with a demyelinating disease. Cefalo has been the radio voice of the Miami Dolphins since 2005.
Cefalo had a long reign as a sportscaster at WPLG-TV Channel 10 in Miami. He was the first morning co-host with Dave LaMont of The First Team at Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM back in 1993.
He was a wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins from 1978 to 1984. Cefalo helped the club win two American Football Conference titles in 1982 and 1984.
Cefalo was a NFL game analyst alongside Charlie Jones at NBC Sports and worked several different roles at NBC News. He also once hosted a game show called Trump Card.
Florida Panthers Sign Anton Lundell
The Florida Panthers have agreed to sign Anton Lundell to a three-year, entry-level contract. Lundell was selected by the Panthers 12th overall in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft.
Lundell played last season with HIFK in Finland. He compiled 16 goals and nine assists in 26 games. Lundell was with HIFK for three seasons and had 72 points in 106 contests.

IIHF World Championship For Roberto Luongo
Team Canada won the gold medal for IIHF World Championship on Sunday in Latvia. They picked up a 3-2 overtime win over Finland.
Florida Panthers hockey advisor to the general manager Roberto Luongo was part of the winning squad. He held the general manager role on Team Canada for the IIHF World Championship tournament.
Marlins Snap Streak Against Pirates
The Miami Marlins snapped an eight-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Sunday. The Marlins will return to Boston and face the Red Sox to make up a postponed game from last week.
Pittsburgh(23-35) struck first in the opening inning. Colin Moran doubled to deep right field for Adam Frazier to score.
Miami(25-33) was able to even it up 1-1 in the top of the second. Jesus Aguilar bashed a solo homer to left field on a 2-1 pitch for his 12th home run of the season.
The Marlins took the lead during the sixth inning. Corey Dickerson grounded into a fielder's choice and Jazz Chisholm Jr. crossed the plate. Aguilar followed with a sacrifice fly to right field and Starling Marte scored.
Aleksander Barkov Selke Trophy Finalist
The National Hockey League have announced the finalists for the Frank J. Selke Trophy. It is given to the best defensive forward in the regular season.
The finalists are Aleksander Barkov of the Florida Panthers, Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins and Mark Stone of the Vegas Golden Knights. Barkov compiled 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points in 50 games.

Locals On Lindy's Sports Magazine Cover
Local players appeared on the Lindy's Sports national college football magazine cover for the Florida edition. It consists of Kaiir Elam of the University of Florida and D'Eriq King of the University of Miami Hurricanes.
Both Elam and King showed up on the cover of Athlon Sports national football magazine Florida edition. Elam did play high school football with the Benjamin Buccaneers.
Pirates Get By Marlins
The Miami Marlins were edged by the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-7 in 12 innings on Saturday at PNC Park. The Fish are now 0-7 on their nine-game road trip and they have lost eight consecutive contests.
Pittsburgh(23-34) will go for the four-game sweep on Sunday. Miami(24-33) and Pirates both scored during the 10th inning.

Anthony Calatayud Returns To Dan Le Batard
Anthony Calatayud has returned to the fold of the Dan Le Batard and Friends podcast network. He will be a part of their Shipping Container staff.
Calatayud was a producer on the Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz. He left the organization when Le Batard and company ended their relationship with ESPN on January 4. Le Batard formed Meadowlark Media with John Skipper later that month.
Miami has primarily been his home base for Calatayud since being in the broadcasting industry. He worked as a producer at 560 WQAM for several years until July 2017. He moved to Connecticut and became a producer for ESPN podcasts.
He returned to Miami in March 2019 at 1210 The Man WNMA-AM. He was an on-air sidekick and producer for the Tony Calatayud Sr. late morning show. Both he and his father shifted to the afternoon shift in August 2019.
Pirates Hammer Marlins
The Pittsburgh Pirates piled on the Miami Marlins 9-2 on Friday night at PNC Park. The Fish have fallen in seven straight games.
Marlins Trade Tyler Jones
The Miami Marlins have finally completed a trade that was made back in December. The Marlins had acquired pitcher Zack Pop as a Rule 5 draft pick.
Pitcher Tyler Jones has been dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks as the player to be named later. Jones was selected by Miami during the 26th round in the 2018 MLB Draft.
Adam Beasley Leaving Miami Herald
Adam Beasley is exiting the Miami Herald sports department. He has been the Miami Dolphins beat writer for the newspaper since 2012.
Beasley, a Syracuse University grad, will be joining Pro Football Network to provide national coverage of the National Football League. He will be involved with the print, audio and video content of the organization.

Pirates Push By Marlins
The Pittsburgh Pirates outlasted the Miami Marlins 5-3 at PNC Park on Thursday night. The Marlins are now 0-5 on their nine-game road trip and have lost six consecutive contests.
Miami(24-31) got ahead 1-0 in the third inning. Jazz Chisholm Jr. knocked in Jon Berti on a singled into left field.
In the fourth inning, Pittsburgh(21-34) evened it up 1-1. Bryan Reynolds belted a solo home run to right-center field on a 1-2 pitch for his eighth homer of the season.
The Marlins reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth. Jesus Aguilar grounded out to third for Elieser Hernandez to score. Garrett Cooper came up next and drove in Starling Marte with a single up the middle.
The Bucs closed it to 3-2 in the top of the sixth. Ke'Bryan Hayes scored on a fielding error during a Reynolds at-bat.
The Pirates pulled a comeback in the eighth inning with three runs and had a 5-3 lead. Jacob Stallings doubled into deep left field for Adam Frazier, Reynolds and Gregory Polanco to cross the plate.
Bills Sign Gregory Rousseau
The Buffalo Bills have signed defensive end Gregory Brosseau to a rookie deal worth a guaranteed $11.367 million. It is a four-year contract with a team option for a fifth season. The Bills selected him with the 30th overall pick.
Rousseau played college football with the University of Miami Hurricanes and did not participate last season. He compiled 15 1/2 sacks and 54 total tackles in 13 contests during 2019. Rousseau captured the 2017 FHSAA Class 2A state championship with Champagnat Catholic.

Blue Jays Walk Off Marlins
The Toronto Blue Jays pulled off a ninth-inning comeback and beat the Miami Marlins 6-5 at Sahlen Field in Buffalo on Wednesday night. The Marlins have lost five straight games and six of their last seven. The Fish move on to Pittsburgh and challenge the Pirates in a four-game series.
George Beasley Passes Away
Beasley Media Group founder and executive chairman George Beasley passed away on Wednesday at the age of 89. His organization has impacted South Florida radio for many decades.
Their previous brand of Beasley Broadcasting owned several radio stations in the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area. They controlled Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM, Power 96 WPOW-FM and Kiss Country 99.9 WKIS-FM. They bought the cluster of stations from Sunshine Wireless Company in 1996 and sold them to CBS Radio in December 2014.
Beasley Media Group still owns numerous radio stations in the South Florida region. The organization still runs several Boca Raton stations including 1470 WWNN-AM. They surrendered the license of Money Talk Radio 740 WSBR-AM to the Federal Communications Commission in April.
Beasley owns a bunch of radio stations in Fort Myers and Naples. It includes sports formatted ESPN Southwest Florida 770 WBCN-AM.
They do operate other sports radio stations in other parts of the United States. 97.5 The Fanatic WPEN-FM in Philadelphia and 98.5 The Sports Hub WBZ-FM in Boston are some recognizable brands in the radio broadcasting industry.

Blue Jays Handle Marlins In Buffalo
The Toronto Blue Jays participated in their first game this season in Buffalo and defeated the Miami Marlins 5-1 at Sahlen Field on Tuesday night. The Blue Jays held their home games in the first two months of the 2021 regular season at their spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida.
The Blue Jays 30 home games during the shortened 2020 campaign was in Buffalo instead of Toronto due to the Canadian government's guidelines toward the coronavirus pandemic. The Marlins and Blue Jays played in the first Major League Baseball regular season ever in Buffalo on August 11, 2020.
The Marlins have lost five of their last seven games. Both clubs will the second game of their two-game set on Wednesday.
Toronto(28-25) started ahead \3-0 in the third inning. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. blasted a solo home run to left-center field on the first pitch. with Marcus Semien and Bo Bichette aboard. It was the 17th homer for Guerrero this season.
Miami(24-29) garnered their only run of the contest in the top of the fifth. Starling Marte doubled into ccccc field and Luis Marte crossed the plate.
The Blue Jays picked up one run during the bottom of the fifth. Teoscar Hernandez grounded out to third for Semien to score.
It became 5-1 for Toronto in the eighth inning. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. powered a solo home run to left-center field on a 3-2 count for his fifth homer of the year.
25th Anniversary Of Panthers Series Win
Tuesday was the 25th anniversary of the last time the Florida Panthers won a playoff series. They defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 7 on the road when Tom Fitzgerald scored a go-ahead goal in the third period to become Eastern Conference Champions.

Panthers Re-Sign Kevin Connauton
The Florida Panthers have re-signed defenseman Kevin Connauton to a new contract. It is a one-year, two-way deal.
Connauton played seven games with the Panthers last season and was able to compile one assist. He has played eight seasons in the National Hockey League.
