John Carroll outfielder and pitcher Jay Allen was selected by the Cincinnati Reds 30th overall in the first round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft. The specific pick was given to the Reds as compensation because the Los Angeles Dodgers signed pitcher Trevor Bauer after he rejected a qualifying offer from Cincinnati.
Allen was a three-sport player in baseball, football and basketball. He was the starting quarterback for their football team. Allen has made a baseball commitment to the University of Florida.
