The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders wiped out the Cooper City Cowboys 69-0 at Brian Piccolo Stadium on Friday night. Former St. Thomas Aquinas head coach and athletic director George Smith was honored. Smith ended his coaching career after the 2010 season with six FHSAA state football championships and he retired from the school back in March.
This game renewed a local rivalry between both Broward County schools. St. Thomas Aquinas(5-1) has won a district championship almost every year since 1997. The only exception was when Cooper City(2-4) went on the road and upset the Raiders 21-16 for the district title on November 4, 2011.
