Two former Broward County high school basketball players were selected in the first round of the 2023 NBA Draft in Brooklyn last Thursday night. Amen Thompson was drafted fourth overall by the Houston Rockets and Ausar Thompson was taken by the Detroit Pistons with the fifth overall pick. They became the first brothers to be chosen in the first five draft picks during the same year.
Both Amen Thompson and Ausar Thompson played with the Pine Crest Panthers from eighth grade through their junior years. Pine Crest won the FHSAA Class 4A state championship in 2021. They would play with the Overtime Elite League in Atlanta over the next two years.
