The Florida High School Athletic Association board of directors voted to change the current setup of classifications in high school football. They eliminated the four Metro brands from Class 4M to Class 1M and the four Suburban brands from Class 4S to Class 1S after two seasons.
The seven new classifications would go from Class 7A down to Class 1A. Class 1R would remain intact from the last two years. The FHSAA had classifications from Class 8A down to Class 1A from 2011 until 2021.
