Tigers To Retire Jim Leyland Number

The Detroit Tigers announced today that they will retire the number 10 jersey of manager Jim Leyland. It will happen on August 3 at Comerica Park. He will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on July 13.
Leyland was the manager of the Tigers from 2006 to 2013 and guided them to two American League pennants in 2006 and 2012. It will be the 10th uniform number retired by the franchise.
He managed the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1986 to 1996 and won three National League East Division titles in 1990, 1991 and 1992. They fell in the National League Playoffs each season.
Leyland joined the Florida Marlins as their manager in 1997. The club qualified for the postseason as the National League Wild Card. The Fish upset the San Francisco Giants in the first round and then knocked off their divisional foe the Atlanta Braves for the National League pennant. The Marlins won the 1997 World Series in seven games over the Cleveland Indians.
