Miami Marlins outfielder Austin Slater has elected free agency after he had cleared waivers. He was designated for assignment by the club back on Thursday. Slater will sign a deal with the New York Mets.
Slater has been in the majors since the 2017 season. He signed a one-year contract with the Marlins last month. Slater compiled a .174 batting average in 12 games with Miami.
