     The Miami Marlins xxxxx the Houston Astros x-x on Tuesday night at Daikin Field. The Marlins will complete their six-game road trip tomorrow.

Miami Marlins 2027 Schedule

      Major League Baseball rolled out the 2027 regular season schedule. All 32 clubs received their slate of the 162-game season. 

     The Marlins will open up their 2027 campaign at home as they host the New York Mets on March 25. It is the earliest the regular season has started in baseball history. The regular season for Miami will conclude on September 26 at the Atlanta Braves.

Astros Speed By Marlins

     The Houston Astros rocketed by the Miami Marlins 8-5 at Daikin Field on Monday night. The Marlins are now on a seven-game losing streak.

     Miami(52-49) was able to place two runs in the top of the second for a 2-0 lead. Houston(48-54) answered back with six runs during the bottom of the second and they led 6-2. The Marlins cut it to a two-run margin 6-4 in the fourth inning.

Spain Takes Argentina & World Cup

     Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi and Argentina lost to Spain 1-0 in added extra time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final on Sunday at at New York/New Jersey Stadium. It was the second World Cup title for Spain. Messi was the second player ever to participate in three World Cup Final games, which is tied with Cafu of Brazil.

     Argentina failed to become the first country to capture back-to-back World Cup championships since Brazil in 1958 and 1962. They played in the World Cup Final for the third time in the last four tournaments. Argentina is now tied for second all-time with seven World Cup Final appearances

     Spain won their second World Cup title in their history. They captured their only championship in 2010. Spain now has a 38-game unbeaten streak with the victory.

      It was the first time a World Cup Final match had the reigning European champion Spain and the reigning South American champion Argentina face off. Spain is the third squad to be a European and World Cup champion at the same time.

     Spain became the second European nation to win the World Cup in the Western Hemisphere. Germany accomplished it in Brazil back in 2014. 

     There was no scoring between both teams in the first half and the second half of play. Enzo Fernandez received his second yellow card of the contest for a red card during stoppage time at the conclusion of the second half. Argentina had to play with just 10 players for the remainder of the game.

     In added extra time, Spain made it 1-0 in the 106th minute. Ferran Torres volleyed in a left-footed shot from nine yards away.

Brewers Sweep Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 at American Family Field on Sunday. The Marlins will head to Houston for Monday's game against the Astros. 

     Miami(52-48) had a 1-0 advantage in the top of the third. Esteury Ruiz smacked a solo home run to left field on a 1-1 pitch for his fifth homer of the campaign.  

     Milwaukee(62-37) placed three runs during the bottom of the ninth for a walk-off victory. William Contreras blasted a three-run homer to center field on a 1-2 count with Jackson Chourio and Brice Turang aboard. It was the 10th home run for Contreras this season.

England Outscores France

     England outlasted France 6-4 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Third-Place, Bronze-Medal Game at Miami Stadium on Saturday. It was the last of seven games played in this year's tournament at South Florida. 

     Both nations combined with 10 goals for the highest-scoring World Cup game since 1982 in a World Cup game. France finished among the top four positions of the World Cup tournament for the third straight occasion. England, who competed in the third-place contest for the second time in the past three tournaments, ended up in third for the first time ever in the World Cup.

     In the first half, England stormed out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute of play. Declan Rice put a tally from 22 yards with his right foot for his first goal in the tournament.

     England expanded their lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute. Ezri Konsa was able to score on a header from eight yards out.

     It became 3-0 for England in the 37th minute. Bukayo Saka one-timed a left-footed shot from nine yards away into an empty net.

     England picked up another goal during stoppage time at the end of the first half and led 4-0. Saka ripped an 18-yard shot with his left foot.

     In the second half, France mounted a comeback. Kylian Mbappe scored in the 48th minute for his ninth goal in this year's tournament. They made it 4-2 in the 54th minute. Bradley Barcola was able to find the net on a shot.

     France closed it to 4-3 during the 66th minute of play. Mbappe blasted a left-footed from 15 yards away for his second goal of the contest and tournament-leading 10th goal for the Golden Boot Award. He also past Lionel Messi of Argentina with his all-time record 22nd career World Cup goal. 

     England regained a two-goal lead 5-3 in the 87th minute. Saka collected a hat trick as he placed in a penalty kick with left foot into the bottom right corner of the cage.

     France cut the deficit to 5-4 in stoppage time. Ousmane Dembele helped his country when he curled a left-footed shot from 14 yards away. 

     England clinched the game 6-4 during the final minute of stoppage time in the second half. Jude Bellingham dribbled into the penalty area and released a right-footed shot from seven yards out.

Brewers Outduel Marlins

     The Milwaukee Brewers powered by the Miami Marlins 8-6 on Saturday at American Family Field. The Marlins continued their six-game road swing.

     Miami(52-47) leaped outdoor a 3 -0 lead in the top of the second. Milwaukee(61-37) scored eight unanswered runs in the next six innings.

     

Brewers Squeeze By Marlins

     The Miami Marlins started the unofficial second half of the regular season and lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in 10 innings at American Family Field on Friday night. It was the first contest for both teams since the MLB All-Star Game break. 

     Miami(52-46) made it 1-0 in the top of the fifth. Griffin Conine cracked a solo home run to right-center field on a 3-2 count for his sixth homer of the year. 

     Milwaukee(60-37) evened it up 1-1 during the bottom of the fifth. Joey Ortiz lifted a solo homer to left field on a 1-1 pitch for his fourth home run of the season. 

     The Brewers walked off with the victory 2-1 in the 10th inning. Garrett Mitchell singled up the middle for Jackson Chourio to score. 

West Palm Beach Ratings June 2026

      The ratings were issued to sports talk radio stations in the West Palm Beach region. The time span went from the fourth week of May to the fourth week of June. 

     ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM lost half of their audience as they dropped from a 0.8 to a 0.4 in the month. It was the third month ever that they were registered with a ratings service. 

     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM changed from a 0.2 to a 0.4 in the period and doubled their audience. They continued to rely on syndicated Fox Sports Radio and their local sports shows. 

     Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM remained at a 0.0 for the third consecutive month. The Miami Marlins improved their record to 42-39 for third place in the National League East Division. 

Florida Panthers 2026-27 Schedule

     The National Hockey League released the 2026-27 regular season schedule on Thursday. It will be the first time that a season will start in the month of September. The big change for the upcoming campaign will be all 32 NHL clubs playing 84 regular season games instead of 82 contests. 

     It means that all teams will now play every team in their division four times per season. The Florida Panthers will face each team in the Atlantic Division twice at home and twice on the road. 

     Florida will face the Metropolitan Division teams three times this season. The Cats will host every Western Conference squads once and visit them once. 

     The Panthers open up their 2026-27 regular season with the first overall game of the NHL season at the Carolina Hurricanes in Raleigh on September 29. The Hurricanes will raise their Stanley Cup championship banner prior to that contest. It will be the third straight season on opening day that the Panthers will be present for a Stanley Cup title banner ceremony. 

     The Cats will continue their road trip with three games in California. The Panthers will be on the road for six of their first seven games this season.

     Florida hosts their home opener versus the Minnesota Wild on October 10. They then will play the first NHL Monday afternoon contest of the season at the Atlantic Division champions the Buffalo Sabres on October 12. 

     The Panthers and new center Brady Tkachuk will face the Ottawa Senators on October 21 in Ottawa. New Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Sergei Bobrovsky takes on his former team in Toronto on December 3. He returns with the Maple Leafs to Sunrise on March 6.

Leo Luongo Joining Devils

     Leo Luongo, brother of former Florida Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo, is being named the director of  goaltending with the New Jersey Devils. He leaves the Panthers organization after capturing two Stanley Cup titles with the team in the role as their director of goaltending development/director of player development. 

     Luongo was named the Florida Panthers AHL goaltending coach in June 2016. He was involved with the Panthers AHL affiliates the Springfield Falcons and the Charlotte Checkers over the past 10 years

ESPN West Palm Buffalo Bills Radio Station

      ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM has been named an affiliate of the Buffalo Bills Radio Network. Their parent company Good Karma Brands became the team's content distribution partner of the Bills radio broadcast rights back in February.

      ESPN Radio did have the national radio broadcast rights for some teams which included the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets. ESPN West Palm aired the ESPN Radio NFL broadcasts when they were no longer a Miami Dolphins radio affiliate in 2023 and 2024. 

     Another local sports radio station had previously been a radio affiliate of a National Football League team not based in South Florida. Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM in Miami was part of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Radio Network from 2016 until 2022. 

Florida Panthers Season Opener

     The National Hockey League announced the season-opening games for all 32 teams. The entire NHL regular season schedule will be issued tomorrow. 

      The Florida Panthers will open their 2026-27 campaign at the Carolina Hurricanes on September 29. The Hurricanes will be raising their Stanley Cup championship banner prior to the game.

John Martin Back At ESPN West Palm

     John Martin has returned to ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM on Monday after a one-year absence due to his battle with cancer. It is unknown if he will work with the organization on a part-time, full-time or fill-in basis. 

     Martin has been a longtime employee of Good Karma Brands in West Palm Beach. His tenure with them goes back more than 20 years, which includes his reign at sister-station ESPN Radio 760 WEFL-AM. He has mainly worked as an executive producer, producer, director of event production and marketing consultant along with being a former on-air sidekick on programs with current ESPN Radio morning co-host Evan Cohen and current Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM afternoon co-host Josh Cohen.  

Argentina Beats England

      Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi and Argentina overcame England 2-1 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Semifinals at Atlanta Stadium on Wednesday. They advanced to the World Cup Final game on Sunday at New York-New Jersey against Spain. England will challenge France in the Third-Place Game on Saturday in Miami 

     Argentina reached the championship contest for the second straight time and third occasion in the last four tournaments. England had a chance to reach the title game for second time ever and their first time since 1966 when they captured the World Cup. 

     Argentina will attempt to be to be the first country to win consecutive World Cup championships since Brazil in 1958 and 1962. Spain looks to capture their second World Cup title in that nation's history. 

     After a scoreless first half, England was able to take a 1-0 lead in the 55th minute of play. Anthony Gordon placed in a half-volley shot from six yards out with his right foot.

     Argentina ties it up 1-1 during the 85th minute. Enzo Fernandez blasted right-footed shot from 24 yards away into the left side of the cage off a Messi feed.

      It became 2-1 for Argentina in stoppage time at the conclusion of the second half. Messi crossed the ball from the right side with his right foot. Lautaro Martinez put in a header from four yards into the left side of the net. Messi collected his 12th career World Cup assist on the play.

Jeremiah Smith On Athlon Sports Magazine Cover

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is on the front cover of the annual Athlon Sports magazine College Football Preview. He appeared with three other players for the Midwest Region edition of the publication. 

     Smith participated in high school football with the Chaminade-Madonna Lions. He led them to three FHSAA state championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023. He played the last two seasons with Ohio State University. Smith helped the Buckeyes capture a CFP National Championship in 2024. 

Micky Arison New NBA Board Of Governors Chairman

      Miami Heat Governor and Owner Micky Arison has been unanimously elected and named as the new NBA Board Of Governors Chairman. He replaces longtime Toronto Raptors governor Larry Tannenbaum. Arison will start his new role in September 2026. 

     Arison along with his family has owned the Miami Heat franchise since their inception in 1988. The team has won three NBA titles and seven Eastern Conference titles with Arison in charge. Arison was inducted into the National Basketball Hall Of Fame in September 2025. 

Miami Ratings June 2026

     The ratings were released for sports talk radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area. The time span went from the fourth week in May to the fourth week in June. 

     104.3 Sports WQAM-FM stayed at a 0.8 for the second straight month. The Miami Marlins saw a surge as they increased their record to 42-39 for third place in the National League East Division. 

     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM remained at a 0.2 for the second straight time. NASCAR broadcasts were aired during the weekends. WZTU-FM-HD2 with the WINZ stream rose from a 0.3 to a 0.4 in the period. 

     Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM improved to a 0.3 after four consecutive months with a 0.1. They did not carry any game broadcasts during the time period. 

2026 MLB All-Star Game

     The 2026 MLB All-Star Game was held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Tuesday night. The venue was chosen by Major League Baseball due to the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. 

     The All-Star Game was held in Philadelphia at Veterans Stadium 50 years ago in 1976 because of the United States bicentennial. The Midsummer Classic happened at Philadelphia in 1996. 

     The American League defeated the National League 4-0. It was the 96th time that the MLB All-Star Game was played. 

     The A.L. ripped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger picked up a two-run single up the middle. New York Yankees first baseman Ben Rice followed with a RBI-single into center field. Chicago White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas belted a solo home run to left field on a 2-0 pitch during the eighth inning. 

     The Miami Marlins did have some impact in the MLB All-Star Game. Their shortstop Otto Lopez singled into right field in the bottom of the ninth. 

Jonah Bride Released By Rangers

     One-time Miami Marlins infielder Jonah Bride has been released by the Texas Rangers. He participated with the Rangers Triple-A affiliate Round Rock this year. 

     Bride was with the Marlins for two seasons in 2024 and 2025. He had 11 home runs, 41 runs batted in and a .250 batting average in 83 contests with Miami. 

South Florida At 14 Sports Radio Stations

      There are currently 14 sports talk radio stations in the South Florida area. They are all located on the east coast and west coast of Florida. 

      Miami has five sports stations. They consist of 104.3 Sports WQAM-FM. 560 WQAM-AM, Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM, WZTU-FM-HD2 and WRTO-FM-HD2. 

     The West Palm Beach area has four sports talk radio stations. They are ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM, Deportes Radio 760 WEFL-AM, Fox Sports 640 South Florida WMEN-AM and Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM. 

     The Florida Keys has one radio station with The Zone 97.7 Sports Radio WAVK-FM. Southwest Florida airs three sports talk radio stations with Fox Sports FM on FM translators such as 94.1 W231DC in Fort Myers, 103.3 W277AP in Naples and 92.5 WFSX-FM-HD2 in Estero. 

WBCN-AM Finished

     770 WBCN-AM in Fort Myers is no longer in existence. The license for that radio station was surrendered by Fort Myers Broadcasting Company to the Federal Communications Commission on July 7. 

     WBCN-AM flipped to a sports talk format in May 2021 and was branded ESPN Southwest Florida 770. It was sold be Beasley Broadcasting Group to Fort Myers Broadcasting Company in August 2025. The format changed from a sports format in March 2026.  

     There were several different sports talk on-air talent that made an impact over the past five years. They included Craig Shemon, Pete Sheppard, Mark Miller and David Moulton. 

Marlins Fall To Guardians

     The Miami Marlins were defeated by the Cleveland Guardians 5-2 at loanDepot park on Sunday. It was the last game for the Marlins and the Guardians prior to the MLB All-Star Game break. 

     Cleveland(51-46) leaped to a 2-0 lead in the opening frame. Bryan Rocchio knocked in Travis Bazzana with a single through the right side. Two batters later, Kyle Manzardo singled into left field for Bazzana to score.

     Miami(52-45) closed it to 2-1 in the bottom of the third. Xavier Edwards drove in Heriberto Hernandez with a base hit through the left side.

     The Guardians pulled away during the last third of the contest. Rocchio powered a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence in the fifth inning for his eighth home run of the year. In the seventh inning, Khalil Watson got an infield hit and Bazzana crossed the plate. Chase DeLauter smashed a solo home run during the top of the ninth on a 2-1 pitch for his 11th homer of the season to give them a 5-1 advantage. 

     The Marlins responded with one run in the bottom of the ninth and they were down 5-2. Griffin Conine walloped a solo homer to right-center field on a 2-0 count for his fifth home run of the campaign. 

Chris Paddack In Asia

     Former Miami Marlins starting pitcher Chris Paddack is headed for Asia. He has agreed to a contract with the Samsung Lions in the Korea Baseball Organization. 

     Paddack spent time with the Marlins, Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers in 2026. He compiled a 0-5 record and a 7.63 earned run average with the Fish earlier this season. 

Miami Marlins 2026 MLB Draft

     The start of the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft began on Saturday. The first day of the MLB Draft consisted of the first round to the fourth round. 

     The Miami Marlins had one selection in the first round of the draft. The Fish stayed local and decided on Gulliver Prep Raiders shortstop Jacob Lombard at 14th overall. 

Argentina Neutralizes Switzerland

     Argentina outlasted Switzerland 3-1 in added extra time during the World Cup Quarterfinals at Kansas City Stadium on Saturday night. Argentina advanced to the World Cup Semifinals which will occur on Wednesday at Atlanta versus England. 

     In the first half, Argentina rocketed out to a 1-0 advantage in the 10th minute. Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi took a corner kick from the left side and Alexis Mac Allister put in a header from six yards away.

     Switzerland tied it up 1-1 midway through the second half during the 67th minute. Dan Ndoye powered in a right-footed shot from seven yards out. They would be down one man when Breel Embolo was given his second yellow card of the contest in the 72nd minute of play. 

     The game went to added extra time for both teams. It became 2-1 for Argentina in the 112th minute when Julian Alvarez curled a right-footed, 22-yard shot into the top right corner of the cage. 

      Argentina extended it to a two-goal margin 3-1 in stoppage time at the 120th minute. They went on an odd-man attack and Lauturo Martinez scored from 15 yards out with his right foot into the right side of the net. 

     Messi had his World Cup nine-game scoring streak snapped. Argentina currently has a World Cup 12-game winning streak. 

England Slips By Norway

     England got past Norway 2-1 in added extra time in the 2026 World Cup Quarterfinals at Miami Stadium on Saturday. England moved on to the World Cup Semifinals to be held on Wednesday in Atlanta. 

     Norway got ahead 1-0 in the 36th minute. Andreas Schjelderup lifted a 14-yard shot with hos left foot off the right post and into the net.

     England evened it up 1-1 during stoppage time at the end of the first half. Jude Bellingham placed in a left-footed shot from eight yards away. The contest would go to added extra time.

     It became 2-1 for England in the 93rd minute of play. Bellingham collected his second goal of the game when he scored from seven yards out with his right foot. 

Guardians Cover Marlins

     The Cleveland Guardians knocked off the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Saturday at loanDepot park. The Marlins will complete their six-game homestand tomorrow prior to the MLB All-Star Game break. 

     Cleveland(50-46) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Miami(52-44) picked up one run during the bottom of the seventh and trailed 2-1. The Guardians made it 4-1 in the eighth inning with two additional runs.

Marlins Held Off By Guardians

     The Miami Marlins were defeated by the Cleveland Guardians 3-2 at loanDepot park on Friday night. It was a rematch of the 1997 World Series between both teams. The Marlins have been victorious in 16 of their last 21 contests. 

     Cleveland(49-46) collected two runs in the fourth inning and one run in the fifth inning for a 3-0 advantage. Miami(52-43) got one run during the bottom of the sixth and one run in the bottom of the seventh, however they fell short. 

MIchael Sgarbossa In Texas

     Former Florida Panthers center Michael Sgarbossa will be playing professional hockey in North America for the 2026-27 campaign. He has signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Stars AHL affiliate the Texas Stars. Sgarbossa last appearance in the NHL was with the Washington Capitals in 2024-25. 

     Sgarbossa was with the Panthers for one season in 2016-17. He compiled two goals and five assists for seven points in 29 contests with Florida. 

Miami Heat New Uniform Numbers

     The official NBA calendar year began on July 6. All player transactions which included trades and free agent signings went into effect. 

     The Miami Heat made their share of personnel moves over the past two weeks. There will some noticeable uniform number changes for the new incoming players. 

     Giannis Antetokounmpo will change his uniform number from the number 34 that he worn with the Milwaukee Bucks to number 7 with the Heat. The reason is the Heat franchise retired the number that belonged to Shaquille O'Neal. 

     Tim Hardaway Jr. will have the honor to wear the number 10 of his father Tim Hardaway. The number will be unretired in this unusual case. Hardaway Jr. did have number 10 with the Dallas Mavericks in 2023-24 and the Denver Nuggets in 2025-26. 

Marlins Sweep Mariners

     The Miami Marlins beat the Seattle Mariners 8-4 at loanDepot park on Thursday night and swept a three-game series. The Marlins are in the middle of their six-game homestand prior to the 2026 MLB All-Star Game break. The Fish are 10 games over .500 for the first time since July 2023. 

     The Marlins have won 16 of their last 20 games. The franchise has not had a 20-game stretch like this since the 2024 season from August 14 until September 8. 

     Seattle(47-47) chalked up one run in the top of the second. Josh Naylor stole third base and advanced home on a throwing error by Joe Mack. 

     Miami(52-42) leaped to the lead 2-1 with two runs during the bottom of the second. Griffin Conine lifted a solo home run to right field on the first pitch for his fourth homer of the year. Four batters later, Liam Hicks doubled down the right-field line and Jakob Marsee reached home. 

     The Marlins added four more runs in the fourth inning for a 6-1 advantage. Marsee touched home on a fielder's choice at second. Otto Lopez followed with a triple into the left-field corner as Leo Jimenez and Hicks crossed the plate. Two batters later, Kyle Stowers knocked in Lopez on a base hit through the right side. 

     The Mariners cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fifth inning. Randy Arozarena socked a solo homer to center field on a 1-2 count for his 10th home run of the year. 

     The Fish increased their lead 8-2 on two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Marsee drove in Conine on a single into right field. Jimenez then grounded out to second and Esteury Ruiz touched home. 

     The M's closed it up to 8-4 in the top of the ninth with two more runs. Dominic Calzone blasted a two-run homer to center field on a 1-1 pitch with Arozarena aboard. It turned out to be Calzone's 15th home run of the 2026 campaign. 

Michael Irvin On Netflix

     Michael Irvin will be joining Netflix on July 14 for the MLB Home Run Derby at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. He will work as an interviewer for the event. 

     It will be the first time that Netflix will stream the broadcast on their platform. ESPN held the television broadcast rights to the Home Run Derby from the mid-1990s until last year. 

     Irvin played college football with the University of Miami Hurricanes as a wide receiver from 1984 to 1987. He won a national championship with the Canes in 1987 and three Super Bowl titles with the Dallas Cowboys. 

     He was the midday host on Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM from July 2010 to December 2011. Irvin held the late morning post from January 2012 to July 2012. 

Sal Licata Launches Podcast

     Former South Florida radio sports host Sal Licata has entered the podcast industry. He will become the podcast co-host of New York Sports Rush with John Jastremski at BetRivers Networks. 

     Licata hosted a 30-minute New York Yankees pregame show prior to the New York Yankees Radio Network from April 2013 to August 2013. He joined WFAN-AM in New York City as an overnight host in November 2021. He was promoted to midday co-host and held that position from July 2023 until December 2025. 

Marlins Blank Mariners

     The Miami Marlins shut out the Seattle Mariners 2-0 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins have a 30-17 home record this season.

     Miami(51-42) had a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second. Kyle Stowers blasted a solo home run to center field on the first pitch for his 12th homer of the year. 

     Seattle(47-46) gave up another run in the third inning. Xavier Edwards tripled down the right-field line and Otto Lopez crossed the plate. 

Otto Lopez Player Of The Week

     Miami Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez has been named the National League Player of the Week by Major League Baseball. He went 14-for-28 with eight extra-base hits and seven runs batted in during the seven-day period. 

     Lopez was named to the National League All-Star Team for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game. The contest will be held on July 14 in Philadelphia. 

Argentina Overcomes Egypt

     Argentina came back on Egypt 3-2 on Tuesday at Atlanta Stadium in a Round of 16 contest at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They advanced to the World Cup Quarterfinals and will challenge Switzerland on Saturday. 

      The reign as the World Cup champions for Argentina continued. They extended their World Cup winning streak to 11 games.

      Egypt rolled out to a 1-0 advantage in the 15th minute. Yasser Ibrahim placed a header from seven yards into the right side of the net.

      Argentina was unable to tie the game 1-1 in the 21st minute. Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi took a penalty kick that was saved by the Egypt goalkeeper.

       In the second half, it became 2-0 for Egypt during the 67th minute. Mostafa Ziko ripped a one-time shot from eight yards out with his right foot.

      Argentina broke the shutout in the 79th minute and closed it to 2-1. They crossed the ball from the right side and Cristian Romero put in a header from seven yards away.  

       They evened it up 2-2 in the 84th minute of play. Messi powered a half-volley, left-footed shot from 10 yards away. It was the tournament-leading eighth goal for Messi and all-time World Cup record 21st goal.

      Argentina got their first lead of the contest 3-2 during stoppage time at the conclusion of the second half. It was another cross from the right side and Enzo Fernandez headed the ball into the right side of the cage from nine yards out.

Marlins Walk Off Mariners

     The Miami Marlins got by the Seattle Mariners 6-5 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins returned home following a 10-game road swing. 

     Miami(50-42) moved out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Owen Caissie powered a solo home run to right-center field on a 1-0 pitch for his 12th homer of the year. Javier Sanoja later scored on a wild pitch. 

     The Fish made it 3-0 in the third inning. Jakob Marsee knocked in Griffin Conine on a base hit through the right side. 

     The Marlins expanded it to 4-0 during the bottom of the fourth. Stowers hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Liam Hicks crossed the plate. 

     Seattle(47-45) managed two runs in the top of the fifth and they were down 4-2. Luke Raley drove in Cal Raleigh with a sacrifice fly into center field. Cole Young followed with a solo homer over the right-field wall on a 0-1 count for his 10th home run this season. 

     The Mariners took the lead 5-4 in the top of the eighth. Raleigh doubled off the right-field fence and J.P. Crawford reached home. Josh Naylor came up next and singled through the right side for Randy Arozarena to score. Naylor later on scored on a wild pitch to put them ahead for the first time in the contest. 

     Miami evened it up 5-5 in the bottom of the eighth. Heriberto Hernandez smashed a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch for his 12th homer of the 2026 campaign. 

     The Marlins picked up the 6-5 victory in the 10th inning. Marsee singled into right field and Xavier Edwards scored.

Rasul Douglas Heads To Commanders

     One-time Miami Dolphins defensive back Rasul Douglas is about to sign a contract with the Washington Commanders. It is expected to be a one-year deal worth around $3.8 million. 

     Douglas participated with the Fins during the 2025 season. He finished up with two interceptions in 15 contests with Miami. 

Ben Steeves Re-Inks With Devils

     Former Florida Panthers forward prospect Ben Steeves has re-signed with the New Jersey Devils. It is a one-year deal that is worth $850,000. 

     He was traded along with Evan Rodrigues by the Florida Panthers to the Devils in a five-player deal for Jacob Markstrom last week. Steeves played the past three seasons with the Panthers AHL affiliate the Charlotte Checkers. 

Belgium Eliminates United States

     The United States played in the Round of 16 knockoff stage and lost to Belgium 4-1 at Seattle Stadium on Monday night. Belgium will face Spain in the World Cup Quarterfinals at Los Angeles on Friday.

     Belgium bounced out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute. Charles De Ketelaere tapped in a right-footed shot from four yards out. It was the first time the United States surrendered the opening goal of a contest in this year's tournament.

     The Americans tied it up 1-1 in the 31st minute. Malik Tillman scored on a direct kick from 25 yards away with his right foot.

     It became 2-1 for Belgium in the 33rd minute as they responded quickly. De Ketelaere put in a header from five yards.

     In the second half, Belgium extended their lead to 3-1 during the 57th minute of play. U.S. goalkeeper Matt Freese committed a turnover outside of the penalty area. Hans Vanaken floated a 33-yard shot with his right foot into an empty net.

     The United States surrendered another goal during stoppage time and trailed 4-1. The U.S. gave the ball away deep in their own penalty area. Romelu Lukaku curled a right-footed shot from 10 yards away into the right side of the cage. 

Christian Roa Reunited With Astros

     One-time Miami Marlins pitcher Christian Roa is back with the Houston Astros. He has signed a minor league contract with that club. 

     Roa started his MLB career with the Marlins in 2025 with a 0.00 earned run average in two contests. He began the 2026 campaign with Houston and had a 7.19 earned run average in seven games with the Astros. 

Max Meyer In All-Star Game

     Major League Baseball announced on Sunday that Miami Marlins pitcher Max Meyer had been listed on the pitching staff for the National League. The 2026 All-Star Game will be held at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on July 14. 

     Meyer has one of the winning percentages in the majors this year at .900 with a record of 9-1. He had a 2.53 earned run average along with 112 strikeouts. 

Otto Lopez Makes All-Star Team

     Miami Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez was named to the National League All-Star Team on Sunday. The MLB All-Star Game event will occur at Citizens Bank Park on July 14 in Philadelphia. 

     Lopez will be making his first All-Star Game appearance. He has a MLB-leading .341 batting average along with eight home runs, 40 runs batted in and a .877 OPS. Lopez also leads the majors with 120 base hits and 24 doubles. 

Marlins Sweep Athletics

      The Miami Marlins held off  the Athletics 9-8 at Sutter Health Park on Sunday.. it was the final game that the Marlins will ever play in  Sacramento. The Athletics will be moving to Las Vegas for the 2028 season.

Marlins Mash A's

     The Miami Marlins handled the Athletics 7-2 on Saturday night at Sutter Health Park. The Marlins will finish up their 10-game road trip tomorrow.

     Miami(48-42) gathered three runs during the third inning and were up 6-0 in the top of the sixth. The Athletics(41-48) picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth and trailed 6-1. 

Nolan Foote Ends With Flyers

     Former Florida Panthers left wing Nolan Foote has inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. He is the son of one-time NHL player Adam Foote. 

     Foote played last season with the Panthers. He finished up with one goal in 12 contests with the organization. Foote was with the New Jersey Devils for five seasons from 2020-21 until 2024-25. 

Lionel Messi & Argentina Edges Cape Verde

      The reigning World Cup champions Argentina survived Cape Verde 3-2 in added extra time during a Group of 32 contest on Friday night at Miami Stadium. Argentina advanced to the Round of 16 knockout stage and will face Egypt in Atlanta on Tuesday. Cape Verde is the smallest-populated nation in this year's tournament with 500,000 people. 

     Argentina got out to a 1-0 advantage during the 29th minute of play. Lisandro Martinez lobbed a lead pass from the midfield circle and Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi roofed a left-footed, half-volley shot from four yards away. It was a Messi's 20th career World Cup goal and his seventh goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament. 

     Messi is the first player since the 1960s to score in five consecutive World Cup knockoff stage games. He matched his goal total of seven in 2022 when he captured the Golden Ball Award and the World Cup championship. Messi extended his record World Cup goal-scoring streak to eight games. 

     In the second half, Cape Verde evened it up 1-1 in the 59th minute. Deroy Duarte placed in an eight-yard shot with his right foot. The contest would go to added extra time for 30 minutes. 

     It became 2-1 for Argentina as they scored during the 92nd minute. Martinez was able to put in the tally with his left foot as he lifted the ball from nine yards away.

     Cape Verde tied it up again 2-2 in the 103rd minute. Sidny Lopes Cabral was on the left side and curled a right-footed shot from 17 yards out into the top right corner of the cage. 

     Argentina reclaimed the lead 3-2 in the 111th minute of play. Messi crossed the ball on a left corner kick. Romero headed the ball from five yards off the arm of defender Diney Borges for an own goal. 

Marlins Blitz Athletics

     The Miami Marlins rocketed by the Athletics 12-5 at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento on Friday night. It will be the only time that the Marlins will play a series in Sacramento during a three-year stretch. The Athletics are expected to be located at their new location of Las Vegas in 2028. 

     Miami(47-42) piled on six runs in the top of the first and led 6-0. They added another run in the second inning and had a seven-run margin. 

     The Athletics(41-47) picked up two runs in the bottom of the third and three runs in the bottom of the fourth. They found themselves down 7-5 midway through the contest. 

      The Marlins continued their big margin. The Fish got one rn in the sixth, two rus in the eighth and two runs inthe ninth fora 12-5 lead.

Kyle Lowry Retiring From NBA

     Former Miami Heat guard Kyle Lowry will soon announce his retirement from the NBA. He is expected to sign a one-day contract with the Toronto Raptors and end his playing career. 

     Lowry captured an NBA title with the Raptors in 2019. He played three seasons with Miami from 2021-22 to 2023-24. Lowry averaged 11.4 points per game in 155 contests and helped the Heat win the Eastern Conference championship in 2023. 

Chris Paddack Free Agent Again

      Chris Paddack has become a free agent once again. He has exercised not to be reassigned by the Texas Rangers to the minors. 

     Paddack has been with three different organizations this season. He started with the Miami Marlins, moved on to the Cincinnati Reds and signed earlier this week with the Rangers. 

Blue Jackets Re-Signing Erik Gudbranson

     The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed defenseman Erik Gudbranson. It is a one-year contract that is worth $1.75 million. 

     Gudbranson spent his first five NHL seasons with the Florida Panthers from 2011-12 until 2015-16. He collected 11 goals and 32 assists for 43 points in 309 games with the Cats. 

Rockies Crush Marlins

     The Miami Marlins fell to the Colorado Rockies 14-4 on Thursday at Coors Field. Both teams completed a rare four-game series against a non-divisional opponent. 

     Miami(46-42) broke out to a 2-0 run in the top of the first. Colorado(35-53) would go ahead 5-4 during the bottom of the fourth. The Rockies piled on seven runs in the sixth inning and led 12-4. 

Christian Roa Exits Cubs

     One-time Miami Marlins pitcher Christian Roa has refused to be reassigned to the minor leagues by the Chicago Cubs and decided on free agency. The Cubs were the fourth MLB team that Roa was a part of in 2026. 

     Roa began in the majors with the Marlins during the 2025 season. He had a 0.00 earned run average in two relief appearances with Miami. 

Panthers Give Out Two-Way Contracts

     The Florida Panthers completed the first day of free agency on Wednesday. They instituted several two-way contracts. 

     Some players were able to sign one-year deals worth $850,000 each. They were forward Sam Lafferty, defenseman Tobias Bjornfot, defenseman Casey Fitzgerald, forward John Beecher and forward Bokondji Imama. It will be Fitzgerald's second stint with the Panthers. 

Panthers Pick Up Sam Lafferty

      The Florida Panthers have inked forward Sam Lafferty. It is a one-year contract that is worth $850,000. 

     Lafferty has bounced around the NHL since the 2019-20 season. He had stints with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks(twice), Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks and Buffalo Sabres. 

Lars Eller Off To Panthers

     Longtime NHL center Lars Eller is coming to the Florida Panthers. He will be signing a one-year contract with the club.

     Eller has been in the National Hockey League since the 2009-10 campaign. He has made stops with the St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Washington Capitals(twice), Colorado Avalanche, Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators. Eller has 193 goals and 246 assists for 439 points in 1,184 NHL contests during his NHL career. 

Donovan Sebrango Remains With Panthers

     Florida Panthers defenseman Donovan Sebrango will be remaining with the club. He has re-signed a one-year contract with them. 

     Sebrango participated in his first season with the Cats during 2025-26. He finished up with eight points in 40 games last season. 

Avalanche Get Vinnie Hinostroza

     Vinnie Hinostroza has concluded his second stint with the Florida Panthers. He has inked a two-year contract worth $1.75 million with the Colorado Avalanche. 

     Hinostroza was with the Panthers for his first stint in 2020-21. He put up three goals and five assists for eight points in 17 contests with Florida last season. 

Vincent Trocheck Traded To Utah

     Former Florida Panthers forward Vincent Trocheck has been traded by the New York Rangers to the Utah Mammoth for defenseman Sean Durzi. forward Cole Beaudoin and a 2027 third-round pick. Trocheck will participate with his fourth team of his NHL career. 

     He spent his first seven seasons with Florida from 2013-14 to 2019-20. Trocheck ended up with 111 goals and 171 assists for 282 points in 420 games during his tenure with the Panthers. 

Kevin Stenlund Re-Ups With Mammoth

     One-time Florida Panthers forward Kevin Stenlund has signed a one-year contract with the Utah Mammoth. The agreement is for $2.75 million. 

     Stenlund was with the Panthers during the 2023-24 campaign and captured a Stanley Cup championship with them. He chalked up 11 goals and four assists for 15 points in 81 games with Florida. 

Daniil Tarasov Now With Red Wings

     Former Florida Panthers backup goalie Daniil Tarasov has inked a deal with the Detroit Red Wings. It is a one-year contract that is worth $2 million. 

     Tarasov spent last season with the Panthers behind Sergei Bobrovsky as a backup on the goalie depth chart. He had a 13-15-3 record with a 3.05 goals-against-average and a .895 save percentage in 33 contests in 2025-26. 

Alex Petrovic Returns To Panthers

     Alex Petrovic is back with the Florida Panthers for a second stint. He has agreed to a two-year contract with the organization. 

     Petrovic played in his first seven NHL seasons with the Cats from 2012-13 to 2018-19. He compiled 49 points in 254 games with the Panthers. Petrovic has been with the Dallas Stars for most of this decade. 

United States Tops Bosnia & Herzegovina

      The United States held off Bosnia & Herzegovina 2-0 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on Tuesday night in a 2026 World Cup Round of 32 game. The U.S. advanced to the next knockout stage and will face Belgium in the World Cup Round of 16 on Monday in Seattle. 

     The U.S. defeated a European national team for the first time since they accomplished it versus Bosnia & Herzegovina in December 2021. The United States won a game in the World Cup knockdown stage for just the second time ever. They got by Mexico 2-0 in South Korea back in 2002. 

     It became 1-0 for the United States in the 45th minute near the conclusion of the first half. Folarin Balogun placed in a left-footed shot from 14 yards away through the goalkeeper's legs. 

     In the second half, Balogun was given a red card and ejected from the contest during the 64th minute by taking down a player. The U.S. had to use 10 players for the remainder of the game.

     The Americans increased their lead to 2-0 in the 82nd minute. Malik Tillman scored on a direct kick with his right foot from 20 yards out.

Sergei Bobrovsky Goes To Maple Leafs

     Sergei Bobrovsky will not return to the Florida Panthers. He has signed a three-year, $21 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. 

     It ends a seven-season reign with Bobrovsky as the Panthers starting goalie from 2019-20 to 2025-26. He led Florida to back-to-back Stanley Cup titles during 2024 and 2025 along with three straight Eastern Conference championships from 2023 to 2025. The team also won the Presidents' Trophy in 2022. 

Devon Levi Dealt To Oilers

     The Buffalo Sabres have traded goalie Devon Levi and a 2028 seventh-round selection to the Edmonton Oilers for a 2028 third-round pick. He played 39 games with the Sabres from 2022-23 to 2024-25 and had a 17-17-2 record with a 3.29 goals-against-average. 

     Levi was selected by the Florida Panthers in the seventh round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He was dealt by the Panthers to the Sabres for Sam Reinhart in July 2021. 

Panthers Extend Sandis Vilmanis

     The Florida Panthers have given left wing Sandis Vilmanis a two-year extension. It will go into effect at the start of the 2027-28 season. 

     Vilmanis broke into the National Hockey League last season with the Cats. He ended up with three goals and two assists for five points in 19 games with Florida in 2025-26. 

Noel Acciari Lands With Flyers

     One-time Florida Panthers center Noel Acciari has signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers. The deal turns out to be worth $5.6 million.

     Acciari spent three seasons with Florida from 2019-20 to 2021-22. He chalked up 27 goals and 19 assists for 46 points in 127 games with the Panthers. The Cats captured the Presidents' Trophy during his final season with the club. 

Vitek Vanecek Goes To Islanders

     Former Florida Panthers goalie Vitek Vanecek is headed to the New York Islanders. He was with the Utah Mammoth last season. 

     Vanecek was traded by the San Jose Sharks to the Panthers in March 2025. He participated in seven regular seasons games with the Cats and was their backup goalie when they won the Stanley Cup in 2025. 

Ducks Adds Noah Juulsen

     The Anaheim Ducks have inked defenseman Noah Juulsen to a two-year deal that is worth $2.2 million. He spent last season with the Philadelphia Flyers with career-highs of nine assists and 10 points during his 52-game stint. 

     Juulsen was with the Florida Panthers for one season in 2020-21. He finished up with no points in four contests with the club. 

Ryan Lomberg Shifts To Blue Jackets

     One-time Florida Panthers left wing Ryan Lomberg has signed a two-year contract worth $2.6 million with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He spent the last two seasons with the Calgary Flames. 

     Lomberg was with Florida for four seasons from 2020-21 until 2023-24. He ended up with 28 goals and 21 assists for 49 points in 246 contests with the Cats. He was a part of the Panthers team when they captured their first Stanley Cup title in franchise history in 2024. 

Mason Marchment Swims With Sharks

     Former Florida Panthers left wing Mason Marchment is about to ink a five-year deal worth $35 million with the San Jose Sharks. His father Bryan Marchment was with the Sharks for six seasons. 

     Marchment played for Florida in 2020-21 and 2021-22. He chalked up 20 goals and 37 assists for 57 points in 87 contests with the Panthers. 

Mackie Samoskevich Agrees With Kraken

      Former Florida Panthers right wing Mackie Samoskevich has agreed to a new three-year contract with the Seattle Kraken that is worth $11.55 million. He was traded by the Panthers to the Kraken last week for a 2026 first-round selection.

     Samoskevich spent his three-season NHL career with Florida and contributed to them taking the Stanley Cup title in 2025. He compiled 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points in 156 games with the Panthers. 

Erik Haula Moves To Kings

     One-time Florida Panthers center Erik Haula is joining the Los Angeles Kings. It is expected to be a multi-year deal between him and the club. 

     He had a short stint with the Panthers in the 2019-20 season after being traded by the Carolina Hurricanes along with Eetu Luostarinen to the Cats for Vincent Trocheck. Haula ended up with two assists for two points in seven contests with Florida. 

Panthers Ink Radko Gudas

     The Florida Panthers will be keeping defenseman Radko Gudas. He has signed a six-year contract that is worth $9 million. 

     It will continue the second stint for Gudas with the Panthers organization. Florida acquired his signing rights earlier this week from the Anaheim Ducks for the signing rights to A.J. Greer. 

     Gudas was with the Panthers for three seasons from 2020-21 until 2022-23. He helped the Cats win the Eastern Conference championship in 2023 and reach the Stanley Cup Final. 

     He participated with the Ducks for three seasons from 2023-24 to 2025-26. Gudas would eventually be named their captain. 

Panthers Extending Eetu Luostarinen

     The Florida Panthers have extended the contract of left wing Eetu Luostarinen. It is a eight-year, $40 million deal that will go until the 2034-35 season.

     He broke into the National Hockey League with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2019-20. He was traded to the Panthers for center Vincent Trocheck in February 2020. 

     Luostarinen has been on the Panthers roster for the past six seasons since the 2020-21 campaign. He has 61 goals and 100 assists for 161 points in 439 games. Florida have captured two Stanley Cup titles, three Eastern Conference champions and one Presidents' Trophy during his tenure with the club. 

Norman Powell Heading To Bulls

     Former Miami Heat guard Norman Powell will be signing a two-year deal with the Chicago Bulls. The contract is expected to be worth $45 million. 

     Powell was acquired by the Heat in a three-team trade from the Los Angeles Clipper in July 2025. He was named to the NBA All-Star Game for the first time while with Miami last season. Powell averaged 21.7 points per game in his only season in a Heat uniform. 

Nick Cousins Stays With Senators

     The Ottawa Senators have re-signed left wing Nick Cousins to a two-year deal worth $3.175 million. He has been there for the last two seasons. 

     Cousins was with the Florida Panthers for two seasons in 2022-23 and 2023-24. He captured one Stanley Cup championship and two Eastern Conference titles with the team. Cousins compiled 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points in 148 games with Florida. 

John Collins Signing With Pistons

     Former Palm Beach County high school basketball player John Collins is expected head to the Detroit Pistons. He will ink a three-year contract with that club that is worth $51 million. 

     Collins played high school basketball with the Cardinal Newman Crusaders in West Palm Beach. After a stop at Wake Forest University, he had NBA stints with the Atlanta Hawks, Utah Jazz and Los Angeles Clippers

Mark Letestu On Golden Knights Staff

     Mark Letestu has been named an assistant coach with the Vegas Golden Knights. He was the head coach of Colorado Eagles in the American Hockey League last season. Letestu was an assistant coach with Cleveland Monsters for four seasons prior to that. 

     Letestu signed a professional tryout offer with the Florida Panthers back in early September 2018. He was released from the PTO during training camp. 

Rockies Spoil Marlins

     The Colorado Rockies rushed by the Miami Marlins 6-3 at Coors Field on Wednesday night. The Marlins have won five of their last seven games. 

     Colorado(34-53) raced out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Miami(46-41) passed them by in the top of the fourth with two runs to make it 2-1. The Rockies reclaimed the 5-2 lead during the bottom of the fifth with four runs. 

2026 NBA Cup Groups Set

     The National Basketball Association announced the teams in the six groups of the NBA Cup. The championship game will be held at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis on December 11. 

     The Miami Heat were named in East Group B. They are in the same group as the NBA champions and NBA Cup champions the New York Knicks. The Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers are also in East Group B. 

Tim Hardaway Jr. Signing With Heat

     The Miami Heat will be signing guard Tim Hardaway Jr. It is expected to be a one-year deal that is worth $6.065 million. His father Tim Hardaway played for the Heat from 1995-96 to 2000-01 and had his number 10 jersey retired by the organization. 

     Hardaway Jr. played high school basketball with the Miami Palmetto Panthers. He went on to the University of Michigan for college basketball. 

     He has been in the NBA for 13 seasons. Hardaway had stints with the New York Knicks(twice), Atlanta Hawks, Dallas Mavericks. Detroit Pistons and Denver Nuggets. 

Ducks Ink A.J. Greer

     The Anaheim Ducks have signed center A.J. Greer to a four-year contract worth $17 million. They acquired his signing rights from the Florida Panthers for the signing rights of captain/defenseman Radko Gudas yesterday.  

     Greer played with the Panthers for the last two seasons and compiled 49 points in 159 games. He helped win a Stanley Cup championship in 2025. 

Rays Get Back Austin Slater

     Austin Slater is back with the Tampa Bay Rays by re-signing a minor league contract with the organization. He will report to the Rays Triple A affiliate at Durham. 

     Slater started the 2026 season with the Miami Marlins and had a .174 batting average in 12 games. He then had stints with the New York Mets followed by the Tampa Bay Rays. 

Precious Achiuwa Re-Signing With Kings

     One-time Miami Heat forward Precious Achiuwa is expected to re-sign with the Sacramento Kings. It is a two-year contract that is worth $11.5 million. 

     Achiuwa broke in the NBA with the Heat in 2020-21 and average five points per game in 61 contests during his rookie campaign. 

     He had stints with the Toronto Raptors and the New York Knicks. Achiuwa spent last season with the Kings and chalked up a career-high 10.1 points per game. 

LeBron James Leaving Lakers

     Former Miami Heat forward LeBron James will be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers and will not re-sign with them for next season. James finished up an eight-season tenure with the team and helped them capture their 17th overall NBA championship in 2020 over the Miami Heat. 

     James played four seasons with the Heat from 2010-11 until 2013-14. He led the club to two NBA titles in 2012 and 2013 along with four consecutive Eastern Conference championships from 2011 to 2014. 

Jacob Markstrom Reunites With Panthers

     The Florida Panthers made a trade with the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday. The Panthers reacquired goalie Jacob Markstrom along with left wing Agnes Crookshank from the Devils for right wing Evan Rodrigues, center Jesper Boqvist and forward Ben Steeves. 

     It is a return for Markstrom to Florida. His first stint with the club was from 2010-11 to 2013-14 and he then was dealt in March 2014 to the Vancouver Canucks for Roberto Luongo. Markstrom had a 11-25-5 record, .893 save percentage and a 3.21 goals-against-average with the Panthers. 

     Rodrigues captured two Stanley Cup championships with the Panthers in 2024 and 2025. Boqvist won one Stanley Cup title with the Cats in 2025. 

Simone Fontecchio Inking With Heat

     Miami Heat forward Simone Fontecchio will be staying with the club. He will sign a new one-year contract with the team for the 2026-27 season. 

     Fontecchio joined the Heat for the 2025-26 campaign. He finished with 8.5 points and three rebounds per game in 70 games with them last season. 

Kevyn Adams Joining Bruins

     One-time Florida Panthers center Kevyn Adams will be joining the front office staff of the Boston Bruins as a special advisor to the general manager. He recently was the Buffalo Sabres general manager for about four years until December 2025. 

     Adams participated with the Panthers for two seasons in 2000-01 and 2001-02. He had 21 points in 56 contests with Florida. 

Ray Whitney Back In NHL

     Former Florida Panthers center Ray Whitney has returned to the National Hockey League. He has been named an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings and will work under new head coach Peter Laviolette. 

     The last time Whitney was involved in the NHL was as a pro scout with the Carolina Hurricanes from 2015 until 2018. He was part of the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes AAA team staff for much of the 2020s.  

     Whitney played for the Panthers from 1997-98 to 2000-01. He compiled 97 goals and 130 assists for 227 points in 273 contests with Florida. Whitney later captured a Stanley Cup title with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2005-06. 

Christopher Morel Off To Mets

     Former Miami Marlins player Christopher Morel has inked a minor league contract with the New York Mets. He was released by the Marlins earlier this week. 

     Morel spent time with Miami to begin the 2026 regular season. He ended up with no home runs, one run batted in and a .162 batting average in 22 games. 

Marlins Bury Rockies

     The Miami Marlins clobbered Colorado Rockies 14-3 on Tuesday night at Coors Field. The Marlins, who are in the middle of their 10-game road swing, compiled at least 20 wins in a month for just the second time in franchise history.  

     Miami(46-40) and Colorado(33-53) both scored one run in the first inning for a 1-1 tie. The Marlins added one run in the second and third runs in the third for a 5-1 advantage. 

     The Fish picked up a larger margin in the middle of the contest. Miami scored three runs during the top of the sixth. two runs in the top of the seven and three runs in the top of the eighth for a 13-2 lead. 

Dru Smith Remains With Heat

     The Miami Heat will to pay the $2.58 million salary to guard Dru Smith for the 2026-27 campaign. The Heat decided not to waive Smith by Sunday and guarantee his salary for next season. 

     Smith has been with the Heat organization for the past four years. He participated in a career-high 70 contests last season and averaged 5.6 points per game. 

Akira Schmid Traded To Panthers

     The Florida Panthers made another trade as they received goalie Akira Schmid from the Vegas Golden Knights for a 2027 third-round pick. The Panthers made an initial decision for their goaltending next season. 

     Schmid played his first three seasons with the New Jersey Devils from 2021-22 to 2023-24. He was with Vegas for the last two seasons. Schmid played a career-high 34 games last season with the Golden Knights and ended up with a 16-10-6 record. 

Andrew Wiggins Staying With Heat

     Andrew Wiggins will be remaining with the Miami Heat. He has exercised a player option worth $25.7 million for the 2026-27 million. In addition, Wiggins is expected to a agree to an additional two-year extension to begin in 2027-28. 

     Wiggins was traded from the Golden State Warriors to the Heat for Jimmy Butler in February 2025. He had a 15.4 points per game in 68 contests last season with Miami. 

Chris Paddack Going To Rangers

     One-time Miami Marlins starting pitcher Chris Paddack is expected to sign a deal with the Texas Rangers. He will be joining his third team this year. 

     Paddack began the 2026 campaign with the Marlins. He finished up with a 0-5 record and a 7.63 earned run average with the Fish. 

Panthers Reacquire Radko Gudas

     The Florida Panthers pulled off a trade in which they acquired the signing rights to defenseman Radko Gudas from the Anaheim Ducks for the signing rights to center A.J. Greer. Both players can become unrestricted free agent on Wednesday. 

     Gudas once played for the Panthers for three seasons from 2020-21 until 2022-23. He compiled 44 points in 203 contests with the Cats. He helped the team win an Eastern Conference title back in 2023. 

     Greer joined the Panthers in July 2024 as a free agent and had 49 points in 159 games over the course of two seasons. He contributed to Florida capturing their second Stanley Cup championship in 2025. 

Marlins Outscore Rockies

     The Miami Marlins outdueled the Colorado Rockies 10-7 at Coors Field on Monday night. It was the first contest of a four-game series between both teams. 

     Miami(45-40) walked out to a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second. Colorado(33-52) answered back with three runs in the bottom of the second and two runs during the bottom of the third for a 5-2 lead. 

     The Marlins piled on more runs later in the game and led 10-5. The Fish scored four runs in the fifth inning and added another four runs in the seventh inning. 

Marlins Cut Christopher Morel

     The Miami Marlins have released Christopher Morel. He was sent to the Marlins Triple-A affiliate in Jacksonville last week. 

     Morel joined the Marlins as a free agent in December 2025. He finished with a .162 batting average in 22 games this season with Miami. 

Cardinals Avoid Sweep To Marlins

     The Miami Marlins lost to the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 at Busch Stadium on Sunday. The Fish outscored the Redbirds 10-3 in the three-game series.

     The Marlins, who had their four-game winning streak snapped, attempted to sweep the Cardinals in St. Louis for the first time in the last 30 years. The Redbirds snapped a four-game losing streak. The Cards have won six of their past 16 games. 

     St. Louis(43-38) got their first lead in the weekend series during the bottom of the second. Bryan Torres lifted a two-run homer on a 2-0 pitch barely over the right-field wall with Mason Wynn on board. It turned out to be third career home run for Torres. 

     Miami(44-40) closed it to 2-1 in the top of the fifth. Graham Pauley connected with a ground-rule double to the right-field corner and Owen Caissie reached home.

Lionel Messi & Argentina Answer Jordan

      Argentina handled Jordan 3-1 on Saturday night at Dallas Stadium.  It was a Group J game between both nations where Argentina had already clinched first place prior to this game. 

     In the upcoming Round of 32, Argentina will take on Cape Verde in Miami on Friday. Jordan finished their first World Cup tournament and will not be involved in the knockout stage. 

     Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi did not start for the Argentine squad. He did come on as a substitute during the 60th minute of play. Herons midfielder Rodrigo De Paul also did not start for Argentina. 

     In the first half, Argentina raced out to a 1-0 advantage in the 19th minute. Giovani Lo Celso was able to get the tally. 

     It became 2-0 for Argentina in the 31st minute. Lautero Martinez drilled a penalty kick into the left side of the net. 

     Jordan cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 55th minute. They angled a pass from the right side and Mousa Al-Tamari made a sliding shot with his left foot from seven yards out. 

     Argentina expanded their lead to 3-1 during the 80th minute. Messi was grabbed and taken down for a penalty. He then powered a left-footed direct kick from 26 yards away into the low left corner of the cage. Messi became the first player in history to score in seven consecutive World Cup tournament game appearances. It was his tournament-leading sixth goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He extended his all-time World Cup record to 19 goals. 

Portugal Ties Columbia

      Columbia tied Portugal 0-0 at Miami Stadium on Saturday night in a Group K clash. It was the last match of four games in the group stage of the tournament held in South Florida. 

     It resulted with Columbia winning Group K. They will face Ghana in Kansas City on Friday during the Round of 32. Portugal ended with second place in the group and will challenge Croatia in the knockout stage on Thursday in Toronto.

     There was one player with a South Florida connection that played in the game. Inter Miami CF striker Luis Suarez entered the contest for Columbia in the 60th minute of play. 

Panthers Complete NHL Draft

      The second day of the 2026 NHL Draft happened at KeyBank Center on Saturday. It went from the second round to the seventh round.

      The Florida Panthers make their selections at the NHL Draft. The Cats had two draft picks during the second round. They selected Geneve-Servette(Swiss) right wing Simas Ignatavicius at 40th overall and North Bay(OHL) center Ryder Cali at 48th overall. The next player Florida decided on was Chicago(USHL) defenseman Jonas Kemps at 98th overall in the fourth round. 

     The Panthers drafted Tappara Jr.(Finland) right wing Vilho Vanhatalo at 168th overall and Owen Sound(OHL) right wing Cole Zurawski at 181th overall in the sixth round. The Cats chose Newfoundland(QMJHL) goalie Louis-Antoine Denault in the seventh round at 217th overall. 

Marlins Breeze By Cardinals

      The Miami Marlins rushed by the St. Louis Cardinals 5-1 on Saturday night at Busch Stadium. The Marlins look to sweep the three-game series tomorrow. 

      Miami(43-39) roared out to a 1-0 lead in the opening frame. Kyle Stowers knocked in Otto Lopez with a base hit into right field.

     It became 2-0 for the Marlins in the third inning. Stowers singled up the middle and Joe Mack crossed the plate. 

     The Fish expanded it to 4-0 during the top of the fourth with two more runs. Javier Sanoja drove in Jakob Marsee on a single through the right side. Two batters later, Xavier Edwards got a base hit through the left side and Sanoja reached home. 

     St. Louis(42-38) broke the shutout in the bottom of the sixth to make it 4-1. Mason Wynn singled through the right side for Jordan Walker to score. 

     In the seventh inning, Miami increased it to 5-1. Lopez picked up a single into right field and Edwards scored. 

Florida Panthers No First Round Pick

     The 2026 NHL Draft opened up at KeyBank Center in Buffalo on Friday night with the first round. All 32 teams with their hockey operations personnel were not seated on the arena floor and the draft process was not centralized for the second straight year. 

     The Florida Panthers did not have a first-round selection in this year's NHL Draft. The club traded the ninth overall pick and the 25th overall pick to the Ottawa Senators for center Brady Tkachuk this past Sunday. 

Marlins Blank Cardinals

     The Miami Marlins shut out the St. Louis Cardinals 4-0 at Busch Stadium on Friday night. The Marlins began a 10-game road trip.

     Neither team scored in the first seven innings of the contest. Miami(43-39) moved in front 2-0 in the top of the eighth. Graham Pauley doubled down the right-field line and Esteury Ruiz reached home. Four batters later, Kyle Stowers grounded out to first base with the bases loaded and Pauley crossed the plate. 

     St. Louis(42-37) surrendered two more runs during the ninth and trailed 4-0. Jakob Marsee singled into center field for Joe Mack and Ruiz to score. 

     

Doc Reno Out At Big 105.9 WBGG-FM

     Longtime Big 105.9 WBGG-FM afternoon host Doc Reno had his position eliminated by iHeartMedia due to budget cuts. WBGG is the flagship radio station of the Miami Dolphins. 

     He hosted his ninth annual Doc Reno's Wingsfest in Margate on Saturday. Reno will continue as an on-site disc jockey for the Broward County Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Booster Club at Buffalo Wild Wings in Coral Springs. 

     Reno entered professional broadcasting in March 1984. One of his first jobs was as a disc jockey at KRLB-FM in Lubbock. He eventually landed in Cleveland and had a long reign as a disc jockey at WJMO-FM. 

     He would arrive at what was known as Big 106 WBGG-FM in July 2002. Reno had two stints at that radio station as an afternoon host. 

     Reno held the midday host post at WRLX-FM and part-time duties at WHDR-FM. He did his program on several different iHeartMedia radio stations throughout the United States including evenings on WBIG-FM in Washington D.C.

     He hosted a nationally syndicated late night show The Red Eye Rock Lounge since 2009. Reno also has been part of the iHeartRadio Classic Rock Channel as an evening host and Saturday afternoon host. 

Garnet Hathaway Dealt To Panthers

      The Florida Panthers have acquired veteran right wing Garnet Hathaway and a 2026 sixth-round selection from the Philadelphia Flyers for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick. The Panthers will pay Hathaway half of his $2.4 million salary for 2026-27 while the Flyers will pay the other half to him. 

     Hathaway, a Naples native, has spent 11 seasons in the National Hockey League. He had one goal and two assists for three points in 66 games with the Flyers last season. 

Heat Signing Tre Donaldson

     The Miami Heat will be signing undrafted guard Tre Donaldson to a two-way contract. The agreement will not become official until July. 

     Donaldson was a star high school athlete in Tallahassee with the Florida State University High Seminoles. He was the starting quarterback when they faced the Chaminade-Madonna Lions in the 2021 FHSAA Class 3A state semifinals in Hollywood. 

     He entered college athletics for two seasons with the Auburn University Tigers. Donaldson was with the University of Michigan Wolverines in 2024-25 and the University of Miami Hurricanes in 2025-26. He averaged 16.4 points per game in 35 contests with the Canes last season. 

Chris Paddack Gone From Reds

     Former Miami Marlins pitcher Chris Paddack is no longer with the Cincinnati Reds. He refused a demotion to the minors and elected to become a free agent. He made six appearances with the Reds and had a 6.03 earned run average.

     Paddack joined the Marlins for his second stint with the organization. He had a 0-5 record and a 7.63 earned run average in seven games earlier this season with the Fish. 

United States Upended By Turkiye

     The United States were surprised by Turkiye 3-2 in Los Angeles Stadium on Thursday night in the 2026 World Cup. It was the final match for both nations in Group D. The United States lost their first World Cup game where they scored the opening goal since 1950.

     The U.S. had already clinched first place in the group stage after two contests. The Americans will face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32 on July 1 at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium. 

     The United States rocketed out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute of play. Sebastian Berhalter took a corner kick from the left side. Auston Trusty trapped the ball and half-volleyed the ball into the net from seven yards out with his left foot. It was the second-fastest goal by the U.S. to begin a World Cup game. 

     Turkiye answered back in the 10th minute to tie it up 1-1. Arda Guler placed in a left-footed shot from eight yards away into the right side of the cage. 

     It became 2-1 for Turkiye during the 31st minute. Orkun Kokcu received a pass from the end line and one-timed a shot from six yards with his right foot. It was the first time in the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament that the Americans trailed in a contest. 

     In the second half, the United States evened it up 2-2 in the 49th minute. Berhalter rifled a half-volley, right-footed shot from 18 yards away into the low left corner of the net. 

     Turkiye scored the game-winning goal in the final minute of stoppage time at the end of the second half to make it 3-2. Ayhan tapped the ball in from three yards out with his right foot. 

Heat Pick Up Pelle Larsson Team Option

     The Miami Heat have decided to exercise the team option on guard Pelle Larsson. He will be paid $2.3 million for the 2026-27 campaign. 

     Larsson was selected by the Heat in the second round of the 2024 NBA Draft. He averaged 11.4 points, 3.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game with Miami in 70 contests last season. 

Malachi Toney On Phil Steele Magazine Cover

     University of Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Malachi Toney is on the front cover of the annual Phil Steele's College Football Preview magazine for 2026. He appears on their Southeast region magazine cover.

     Toney played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots. He contributed to them winning a FHSAA Class 4A state championship in 2024.

     He is entering his sophomore season with the Hurricanes. Toney helped the Canes reached the 2025 CFP National Championship Game against Indiana University in January.

Sid Rosenberg New York Broadcasters Hall Of Fame

     One-time South Florida sports talk radio host Sid Rosenberg has been named to the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. He will be inducted later on October 22. 

     Rosenberg had stints at several South Florida radio stations over a 10-year period. He was at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM from the Fall of 2005 until May 2009. Rosenberg then worked at Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM from August 2009 to April 2012. He moved on to 640 Sports WMEN-AM as the morning host from August 2012 to December 2015. 

     He has been employed at WABC-AM in New York City since January 2016. Rosenberg first co-hosted late mornings with Bernard McGuirk until March 2018. Both replaced Don Imus in morning drive in April 2018. Rosenberg has been the morning host since McGuirk passed away in October 2022. 

     Rosenberg began his broadcasting career as a sports co-host with Scott Kaplan at CBS Sportsline.com in Fort Lauderdale They both moved to New York City and worked mornings at WNEW-FM. Rosenberg joined Imus In The Morning on WFAN-AM as the morning sports anchor in the early 2000s and stayed there until September 2005. 

Brazil Blasts Scotland

     Brazil bashed Scotland 3-0 in a Group C contest at Miami Stadium on Wednesday night. Brazil clinched first place in Group C and moved on to the Round of 32 knockout round. 

     In the first half, Brazil struck early in the seventh minute for a 1-0 advantage. Scotland turned the ball over in their own penalty area. Vinicius Jr. got to the loose ball, moved around the goalkeeper and tapped the ball in with his right foot from eight yards away. 

     Brazil increased their lead to 2-0 during stoppage time at the end of the first half. They made a cross from the right side of the box and Vinicius Jr. placed in a header from three yards into the left side of the cage. It was his fourth goal of the 2026 World Cup and his sixth international goal scored on United States soil. 

     It became 3-0 for Brazil in the 60th minute of play. Matheus Cunha released a 10-yard shot with his right foot into the right side of the net. 

     Neymar Jr. came into the contest substituting for Cunha during the 76th minute. It was his first game for the Brazil national team since October 2023. 

Heat Finish 2026 NBA Draft

      The 2026 NBA Draft concluded on Wednesday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. It involved the second round of selections. 

     The Miami Heat had exchange second-round picks with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder selected University of Louisville guard Ryan Conwell at 37th overall for the Heat. Miami later decided on University of Kentucky guard Otega Oweh at 41st overall for Oklahoma City. 

Marlins Ride By Rangers

     The Miami Marlins knocked down the Texas Rangers 4-2 on Wednesday at loanDepot park. Both teams reached the midway point of the 2026 regular season. The Marlins finished off a six-game homestand and will visit the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday. 

     Texas(38-42) rolled out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Wyatt Langford cracked a solo home run to center field on the first pitch for his seventh homer of the year. 

     Miami(42-39) tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Griffin Conine doubled into right field and Otto Lopez raced home.  

     The Fish went in front 2-1 in the fifth inning. Xavier Edwards knocked in Owen Caissie with a base hit through the right side. 

     The Marlins added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 4-1 advantage. Lopez smashed a two-run homer to left field on a 1-1 count with Brian Navarreto aboard. 

     The Rangers picked up one run to close the gap in the top of the ninth. Joc Pederson hammered a solo home run to center field on a 1-0 pitch for his 11th homer of the season. 

2026 NBA Draft

     The 2026 NBA Draft was held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Tuesday night. The first round happened tonight. 

     The Miami Heat selected University of Tennessee forward Nick Ament with the 13th overall pick. He is expected to be a part of the eventual trade where Ament will be sent by the Heat along with Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware and Kasparas Jakucionis to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis. 

Miami Heat Acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo

     The Milwaukee Bucks have traded center Giannis Antetokounmpo, forward Bobby Portis and a 2030 first-round selection to the Miami Heat. The Heat give the Bucks guard Tyler Herro, center Kel'el Ware, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., guard Kasparas Jakucionis, 2026 first-round pick(13th overall), 2030 first-round pick, 2031 first-round pick, 2033 first-round pick and 2033 second-round pick. The deal will not be declared official until July 6. 

     Antetokounmpo has played his entire 13-season NBA career with Milwaukee and is a two-time NBA Most Valuable Player. He and Portis led the Bucks to the NBA championship in 2021 after a 50-year title drought. 

     Herro, who has played seven seasons, is the most-known player that the Heat traded. He helped the franchise win two Eastern Conference titles and reach the NBA Finals in 2020 and 2023. The Heat dealt their past three first-round selections in the NBA Draft. Jaquez was with Miami for three seasons, Ware was there for two seasons and Jakucionis just finished his rookie season. 

Bills Place Desmond Reid On Waivers

     The Buffalo Bills have waived former Broward County high school football running back Desmond Reid. He inked a contract with the Bills earlier this year. 

     Reid played high school football with the Miramar Patriots. He split his time in college football participating with Western Carolina University from 2022 to 2023 and the University of Pittsburgh Panthers from 2024 to 2025. 

Saints Waive Damien Alford

     The New Orleans Saints have waived former Broward County high school football wide receiver Damien Alford. He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Saints back in January. 

     Alford participated in high school football with the McArthur Mustangs. He played four seasons with Syracuse University from 2020 to 2023 and one season with the University of Utah in 2024. 

     He was the first overall selection in the 2025 CFL Draft by the Calgary Stampeders. Alford compiled 20 catches for 407 receiving yards and five touchdowns last season. 

Sandy Alcantara Sets Strikeout Mark, Marlins Win

     Sandy Alcantara became the all-time strikeout leader in Marlins franchise history as the Miami Marlins march by the Texas Rangers 6-4 at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins will complete their six-game homestand tomorrow. 

     The Fish have been victorious in eight of their last nine home contests. They have the Major League Baseball best record in the month of June with a 15-5 record. 

     Texas(38-41) took a 1-0 lead during the top of the second. Nicky Lopez grounded out to first with the bases loaded and Alejandro Osuna touched home. 

     Miami(41-39) evened it up 1-1 in the bottom of the second. Heriberto Hernandez powered a solo homer to center field on the first pitch for his eighth homer of the campaign. 

     The Marlins moved ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning. Joe Mack hammered a solo home run to right field on a 3-0 pitch for his fourth homer in the majors. 

     It became 6-1 for the Fish in the bottom of the fifth as they added four more runs. Owen Caissie belted a three-run homer down the right-field line on the first pitch with Otto Lopez and Xavier Edwards aboard. It turned out to be Caissie's ninth home run in a Marlins uniform. Two batters later, Mack knocked in Hernandez with a base hit through the left side. 

     Alcantara passed Ricky Nolasco for first place in Marlins history with his 1,002nd strikeout in the top of the seventh. He was able to strike out Rangers catcher Kyle Higashioka. 

     The Rangers closed it to 6-2 in the eighth inning when Brandon Nimmo smacked a solo home run to right-center field on a 0-2 count. It was Nimmo's 18th career homer against the Marlins. 

     Texas added two runs in the top of the ninth and were down 6-4. Joc Pederson lined a solo homer over the right-field fence on a 2-2 pitch for his 10th home run in 2026. Two batters later, Nimmo tripled into right-center field and Wyatt Langford crossed the plate. 

Austin Slater Exits Rays

      Austin Slater has elected to become a free agent after refusing to be assigned to the minors. He was with the team for seven games and had a .273 batting average. It was the third team he has been on this season. 

     Slater began 2026 with the Miami Marlins. He ended up with one RBI and a .174 batting average in 12 games with Fish. He became a free agent and immediately joined the New York Mets. 

Sandy Leon Becomes Free Agent

     Atlanta Braves catcher Sandy Leon has declared himself a free agent. He spent the last two seasons with the Braves and participated in 26 contests, which included 21 games this year. 

     Leon was with the Miami Marlins during the 2021 campaign. He finished with four home runs, 14 runs batted in and a .183 batting average in 83 games. 

Lionel Messi In Beer Commercial

     Inter Miami CF and Argentina midfielder Lionel Messi made an appearance for a Michelob Ultra beer commercial. It features mostly United States striker Christian Pulisic. Messi was in a Michelob Ultra Super Bowl commercial with former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino during Super Bowl LVIII in February 2024. 

     Michelob Ultra is the official beer sponsor of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The commercial has been aired on television airwaves for the past two weeks. 

Dusty May New Mavericks Coach

     Former Florida Atlantic University Owls basketball head coach Dusty May will be named the new head coach of the Dallas Mavericks. He guided the University of Michigan Wolverines to the 2026 National Championship for men's basketball back in April. 

     May was the head coach of FAU for six seasons from 2018-19 to 2023-24. He helped them reach the NCAA Final Four during the 2022-23 season. 

Rangers Burn Down Marlins

     The Miami Marlins fell to the Texas Rangers 4-3 at loanDepot park on Monday night. The Marlins had their eight-game home winning streak and their four-game overall streak snapped. Rangers manager Skip Schumaker made his return to South Florida for the first time since his tenure as the Marlins manager ended in 2024. 

     Texas(38-40) ran out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Ezequiel Duran smashed a two-run homer to center field on a 1-0 pitch with Brandon Nimmo on base. It was the sixth home run of the campaign for Duran. 

     Miami(40-39) tied it up 2-2 during the middle of the contest. Javier Sanoja hit a sacrifice fly to center field which brought in Owen Caissie in the fifth inning. Xavier Edwards tripled down the left-field line and Otto Lopez scored in the sixth inning. Edwards tried to stretch it to an inside-the ballpark home run, however he was tagged out at the plate. 

     The Rangers reclaimed the lead 4-2 in the top of the ninth with two runs. Alejandro Osuna doubled to the right-field wall for Nimmo to score. Elias Diaz followed with a sacrifice fly to right field and former Marlins player Jake Burger crossed the plate. 

     The Marlins picked up one run in the bottom of the eighth and trailed 4-3. Kyle Stowers knocked in Joe Mack on a double into the right-field corner. 

Lionel Messi All-Time World Cup Goal Leader, Argentina Beats Austria

     Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi set the FIFA World Cup tournament record with his 17th and 18th career goals as Argentina topped Austria 2-0 on Monday at Dallas Stadium in a Group J game. Argentina advanced to the Round of 32 knockout stage with the victory. 

     In the first half, Argentina failed to take a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of play. Messi missed a penalty kick wide right of the net. 

     Argentina moved ahead 1-0 during the 38th minute. Facundo Medina crossed the ball from the left side to the middle of the field. Messi one-timed a left-footed shot from 15 yards away into the bottom left corner of the cage to break the all-time World Cup tournament record with his 17th goal. He passed Miroslav Klose of Germany who compiled 16 World Cup goals. 

     It became 2-0 for Argentina in stoppage time at the end of the second half. Messi dribbled around the goalkeeper and released a shot from nine yards that was blocked by a defender. He then placed in the rebound from five yards out with his left foot for his second tally of the game and 18th career World Cup goal. It was Messi's fifth goal in two games so far in the 2026 World Cup. 

Florida Panthers Acquire Brady Tkachuk

     Ottawa Senators center Brady Tkachuk has been traded to the Florida Panthers. The Cats sent back two 2026 first-round picks, ninth overall and 25th overall to Ottawa. In addition, the Senators get a 2027 second-round selection and a conditional 2029 first-round selection.

     He is the brother of Florida Panthers right wing Matthew Tkachuk. Both contributed to the United States winning the 2026 gold medal in ice hockey for the first time in 46 years. 

     Tkachuk was the fourth overall selection in the 2018 NHL Draft. He compiled 213 goals and 250 assists for 463 points in 572 NHL games during eight seasons with the Sens. Tkachuk was eventually elevated to become the Senators captain later in his tenure there. 

     Brady Tkachuk's brother Matthew Tkachuk was acquired by the Panthers from the Calgary Flames prior to the 2022-23 season. Florida has captured two Stanley Cup titles and three Eastern Conference championships since Tkachuk arrived in South Florida. 

     The Tkachuk family has a long connection with the National Hockey League. Matthew's and Brady's father is Keith Tkachuk and their cousin is former Florida Panthers center Tom Fitzgerald. 

Mackie Samoskevich Traded To Kraken

     The Florida Panthers have dealt right wing Mackie Samoskevich to the Seattle Kraken. The Panthers will get back a 2026 first-round selection at 25th overall along with a conditional 2027 second-round pick. 

     Samoskevich was the 24th overall selection by the Florida Panthers in the  first round of 2021 NHL Draft. He played for the Panthers over the past three seasons. Samoskevich captured a Stanley Cup championship with the organization in 2024-25. He had 12 goals and 20 assists for a career-high 32 points during 77 contests last season. 

Uruguay Ties Cape Verde

     Uruguay and Cape Verde finished with a 2-2 tie in Group H on Sunday at Miami Stadium. It was the second contest of seven games being played in Miami during the 2026 World Cup. 

     Cape Verde, who participated in their second World Cup game in the nation's history, surprisingly moved out to a 1-0 lead during the 21st minute when Lenini powered in a direct kick from 27 yards away. 

     Uruguay evened it up 1-1 in the when Maximiliano Araujo scored in the 44th minute. They moved ahead 2-1 during stoppage time at the end of the half as Agustin Canabbio was able to get the tally. 

     In the second half, it became a tie game 2-2 in the 61st minute as Cape Verde scored. Varela placed a shot from 24 yards out into an open net when the goalkeeper came out get a loose ball outside of the penalty area.
