Steve Goldstein Joins Sports USA

     Florida Panthers television play-by-play announcer and WFOR-TV Channel 4 television sportscaster Steve Goldstein has joined Sports USA. He will announce radio broadcasts of National Football League games and National Hockey League games. 

     Goldstein will continue those two South Florida positions after receiving permission from both the Florida Panthers and WFOR-TV to work for Sports USA. He is not likely to continue his job as the Miami Dolphins Radio Network pregame studio host for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. 

     Goldstein might possibly work the Florida Panthers season-opening contest at the reigning Stanley Cup champions the Carolina Hurricanes on Sports USA. The game will be televised exclusively by ESPN and there will be no Panthers Scripps Sports broadcast on September 29. Florida will then continue a California road trip to begin their 2026-27 campaign. 

     He will also announce NFL regular season games on Sundays for Sports USA this season. It will lighten his duties at WFOR-TV covering Miami Dolphins games. 

     Goldstein has worked in the Miami market since late 1994. He had several stints at 560 WQAM-AM as a sports on-air personality. Goldstein started as a morning sports anchor for The First Team morning program in 1994. Goldstein was elevated to morning on-air sidekick in 1995. He was later promoted to The First Team morning show co-host role with Joe Rose and Jeff DeForrest and held that position until December 2001. Goldstein become the morning co-host on WQAM alongside Howard David from March 2002 until August 2004. He was employed as an early afternoon co-host with Adam Kuperstein from January 2012 to October 2012. 

     He also had short stays at Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM during the 2004-05 NHL lockout as a weekend host and Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM as a morning co-host with DeForrest that began in January 2013 and ended in early 2014. Goldstein did host a weekend show with Sportsfan Radio Network during the mid 1990s. 

     Goldstein, a Syracuse University grad, was the Panthers radio studio host on the Florida Panthers Radio Network from October 1996 until the middle of 2004. He was named their new radio play-by-play voice prior to the 2004-05 NHL lockout season replacing Jiggs McDonald. Goldstein was elevated to the television play-by-play announcer position prior to the 2007-08 campaign. He has held that spot for the past 19 years. 

     He last worked as a radio play-by-play announcer for Westwood One. He announced hockey games at the 2010 Winter Olympics with former Florida Panthers goalie John Vanbiesbrouck and at the 2014 Winter Olympics with one-time Florida Panthers defenseman Bret Hedican. 

     Goldstein has worked as a sportscaster at WFOR-TV since 2015. He was a studio co-host of Miccosukee Sports Rap on Fox Sports Net Florida in the 2000s.  Goldstein later co-hosted a Saturday program called Sports Bang with "Stugotz" Jon Weiner and Amber Wilson from October 2012 until the mid 2010s.

     The Miami Marlins xxxxx the Chicago Cubs xx-xx on Sunday at loanDepot park. The Marlins are in contention for a National League Wild-Card spot.

Marlins Dump Leo Jimenez

     The Miami Marlins have released infielder Leo Jimenez. He was designated for assignment by the team on Thursday. 

     Jimenez spent this season with the Marlins organization. He compiled two home runs, 14 runs batted in and a .199 batting average in 66 games with Miami. 

Inter Miami CF Ties Atlanta United FC

     Inter Miami CF tied Atlanta United FC 2-2 at Nu Stadium on Saturday night. The Herons completed a three-game homestand against Major League Soccer opponents over the past three Saturdays. 

     In the first half, Inter Miami CF(12-4-7) moved out to a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute. Lionel Messi took a left-corner kick and Carlos Casemiro put in a header into the right side of net from seven yards. 

     Atlanta United FC(6-13-4) responded back in the 35th minute to tie it up 1-1. Miguel Almiron volleyed a right-footed shot from three yards out. 

     The Herons reclaimed the lead 2-1 during stoppage time at the end of the first half. Luis Suarez got the go-ahead goal before halftime when he dribbled through the defense outside of the penalty area and scored from 11 yards away with his right foot. 

     It became 2-2 late in the second half during the 87th minute. Breel Embolo, who made his Major League Soccer debut, was able to place in a penalty kick with his right foot into the low right corner of the cage for Atlanta United FC to even it up. 

Cubs Edge Marlins

     The Chicago Cubs defeated the Miami Marlins 6-5 on Saturday at loanDepot park. They will conclude their three-game series tomorrow. 

     Chicago(81-62) zipped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. Michael Conforto powered a solo home run barely over the center-field fence on a 3-1 pitch for his 14th homer of the season. Six batters later, Ian Happ came up the plate with the bases loaded. He singled into right field to bring in Miguel Amaya and Seiya Suzuki. 

     The Cubs expanded it to 4-0 with one run during the fourth inning. Pete Crow-Armstrong drove in Amaya on a base hit into center field. 

     Miami(71-72) cut the deficit to 4-2 in the bottom of the fourth as they composed two runs. Owen Caissie grounded into a force out and Griffin Conine touched home. Joe Mack followed with a single into left field and Otto Lopez scored. 

     In the top of the fifth, the Cubbies increased their lead to 5-2. Nico Hoerner sliced a single into shallow right field and Michael Busch raced home. 

     The Marlins answered back in the bottom of the frame and were down 5-4. Conine hammered a two-run homer to right field on a 2-1 count for his 15th home run this year. Javier Sanoja scored in front of him on the play. 

     Chicago regained a two-run lead 6-4 in the sixth inning. Busch picked up a base hit into right field for Conforto to score. 

     The Fish closed it to 6-5 in the seventh inning. Kyle Stowers socked a solo home run to center field on a 2-1 pitch for his 19th homer of the season. 

Hurricanes Wipe Out Stanford

     The University of Miami Hurricanes opened up their 2026 campaign with a 45-6 dominant victory over the Stanford University Cardinal in Palo Alto on Friday night. The Canes reached the national title game last year for the first time since 2002.  

     Miami(1-0, 1-0) scored on their first possession at 12:07 of the first quarter for a 7-0 lead. Wide receiver Malachi Toney caught a 23-yard touchdown alone all by himself on the right side from quarterback Darian Mensah. 

     Stanford(1-1, 0-1) cut it to 7-3 at the 7:57 mark of the first. They picked up a 30-yard field goal from Emmet Kenney.   

     The Canes made it 14-3 with 2:53 remaining in the first. Mensah zipped a two-yard touchdown pass to Toney on the front side of the end zone. 

     In the second quarter, the Hurricanes extended their lead to a 21-3 advantage with 7:52 to go. Running back CharMar Brown rushed up the middle untouched from five yards out. 

     The U scored another touchdown with 1:55 left in the second and led 28-3. Mensah tossed a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw in the back left side of the end zone. Kenney booted a 24-yard field goal with 27 seconds remaining in the first half and Stanford was down 28-6 

     Miami chalked up two more touchdowns during the third quarter and the Cardinal trailed 42-6. Toney capped off a drive on a 47-yard touchdown strike from Mensah for his third touchdown catch in the contest with 5:24 remaining in the third. 

Giannis Antetokounmpo & Bam Adebayo On Lindy's Sports Cover

     Two Miami Heat players appeared on the pro basketball front cover of Lindy's Sports magazine. They are center Giannis Antetokounmpo and forward Bam Adebayo.

     They showed up on the Florida region version of the publication. Antetokounmpo was acquired by the Heat during the summer from the Milwaukee Bucks. Adebayo has been with Miami for the last nine seasons.

Jahfari Harvey Cut By Raiders

      The Las Vegas Raiders have dropped defensive lineman Jahfari Harvey from their practice squad. He participated with the club in two contests last season. 

     Harvey split playing high school football with John Carroll Catholic and Vero Beach. He was with the University of Miami Hurricanes from 2019 until 2023. He spent his final season in college football with SMU during 2024. 

Cubs Drive By Marlins

     The Chicago Cubs hustled by the Miami Marlins 6-1 at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marlins started a long nine-game homestand. 

     Chicago(80-62) had a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Pedro Ramirez grounded into a force out and Ian Happ touched home.

     The Cubs added three more runs during the top of the sixth and led 4-0. Happ walked with the bases loaded and Pete Crow-Armstrong crossed the plate. Nico Hoerner followed and knocked in Michael Busch on a base hit through the left side. Ramirez came up next and hit a sacrifice fly to center field which scored Alex Bregman.

     The Cubbies made it a five-run margin 5-0 in the top of the seventh. Crow-Armstrong scored on a wild pitch.

      Miami(71-71) scored their only run of the contest in the bottom of the seventh and the Marlins were down 5-1. Esteury Ruiz grounded to second and Griffin Conine reached home.

     Chicago made it 6-1 during the ninth inning. Busch blasted a solo home run to right-center field ona 0-1 count for his 18th homer of the campaign.

St. Thomas Aquinas Tops Columbus

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders held off the Columbus Explorers 31-24 at Simmons Family Field on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale. Both teams played last Saturday on the same gridiron of Brian Piccolo Stadium against different out-of-state opponents during the Broward County High School Showcase. 

     St. Thomas Aquinas(3-0) rolled out to a 7-0 lead on their first possession of the game in the opening quarter. Columbus(2-1) would evened it up 7-7, but STA answered back to make it 14-7 midway through the second quarter. The Raiders got a field goal at the end of the first half and led 17-7 at halftime.

      STA reached the end zone early in the third quarter and expanded their lead to 24-7. The Explorers responded and made it 24-14 in third. Columbus outscored their opponent 10-7 in the final quarter, however they fell short by seven points to St. Thomas Aquinas 31-24. 

Chaminade-Madonna Covers American Heritage

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions handled the American Heritage Patriots 46-27 at Vince Zappone Field in Hollywood on Friday. The two Broward County powerhouses have met annually nine times in the past 10 seasons. Both programs have been considered state contenders on an annual basis. 

     It was a high scoring first half for both teams. Chaminade-Madonna(2-1) had a 27-13 advantage at halftime. American Heritage(1-2) gained a point when they exchanged touchdowns early in the third quarter for a Lions 33-20 lead. The Lions outscored the Patriots down the stretch 13-7 during the final quarter.

Glades Central Chops Palm Beach Gardens

     The Glades Central Raiders came across county and outscored the Palm Beach Gardens Gators 55-26 on Friday night at Mullinax Ford Stadium. Both squads were winless entering this game. 

     It was a matchup between two known Palm Beach County football programs that captured FHSAA state championships in the past. The Gators won their only state title in 2005 while the Raiders last took a state championship in 2006. 

     After a scoreless first quarter, the Raiders scored touchdowns on consecutive possessions to lead 14-0. The Gators answered back with a score on their next drive, however Glades Central(1-2) responded with another touchdown for a 21-7 lead late in the second quarter. 

     Glades Central hosts the Royal Palm Beach Wildcats next Thursday. Palm Beach Gardens(0-3) will remain at home next week in a District 12-5A clash with the Seminole Ridge Hawks. 

Atlantic Squeezes By Blanche Ely

     The Atlantic Eagles made the 17-mile trip down I-95 and outscored to the Blanche Ely Tigers 9-6 on Friday night at Richard L. Williams Stadium. It was a battle between two District 14-4A teams. 

     Atlantic(2-1, 1-0) visits the Pahokee Blue Devils next week. Blanche Ely(2-1, 0-1) heads to Georgia in a week to take on the Lowndes Vikings. 

West Boca Raton Blanks Spanish River

      It was a crosstown rivalry in Boca Raton as the West Boca Raton Bulls shut out the Spanish River Sharks 37-0 on Friday night. The Bulls are the reigning two-time FHSAA Class 6A state champions. 

     West Boca Raton(2-0) charged out of the gate in the first quarter and had a 9-0 advantage. The Bulls added another touchdown early in the second quarter to go up 16-0. Spanish River(1-2) gave up a touchdown late in the second and trailed 23-0. The Bulls found the end zone two more times during the second half and led 37-0. 

Richie Incognito Starts Company & Podcast

     Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito has formed his own media company Point Of Attack Media. He has launched the Initial Contact podcast with Christian Fauria. 

    Incognito once had a stint with the Dolphins. He played in 55 games during four seasons with the Fins from 2010 to 2013. Incognito was suspended by Miami in November 2013 and never participated in another game with that club. 

Miami Central Wallops St. Brendan

     The Miami Central Rockets bashed the St. Brendan Sabres 43-7 on Thursday night at Traz Powell Stadium in a District 16-3A clash. It was one of five high school football games played in Dade County tonight. 

     Miami Central(2-0, 1-0) blasted out to a 21-0 lead in the opening quarter. St. Brendan(0-3, 0-1) kept pace with them getting seven points and they were down 28-7 at halftime. The Rockets scored two touchdowns during the third quarter to make it 43-7.

Palm Beach Central Controls Dr. Joaquin Garcia

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos took the Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs 26-12 at Bronco Stadium on Thursday night in a District 13-6A contest. Both high schools reached the postseason last year.

     Palm Beach Central(3-0, 1-0) rushed out to a 17-0 lead by halftime. Dr. Joaquin Garcia(1-2, 0-1) responded with 12 points during the third quarter. The Broncos added a touchdown and a field goal later in the second half for a 14-point margin. 

Kevin Austin Remains With Saints

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Kevin Austin has been moved to the New Orleans Saints practice squad. He has been with them over the past two seasons and participated in 16 games. 

     Austin split his time in high school football with Western and North Broward Prep. He played college football with Notre Dame. 

Royals Dethrone Marlins

     The Kansas City Royals disposed the Miami Marlins 7-3 on Thursday night at Kauffman Stadium. The Marlins concluded a seven-game road trip and will begin a homestand against the Chicago Cubs on Friday. 

     Miami(71-70) chalked up one run in the first inning and one run in the second inning to lead 2-0. Kansas City(63-78) tied it 2-2 with two runs during the third inning. The Royals would go ahead 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth. They piled on three runs in the bottom of the eighth and pulled away 7-3. 

Alphonso Smith Jr. Passes Away

     One-time Palm Beach County high school football player and Pahokee native Alphonso Smith Jr. passed away at the age of 40 in Florida on Wednesday. According to police reports, he committed suicide. 

     Smith played high school football with the Pahokee Blue Devils as a quarterback and cornerback. He led the team to a FHSAA Class 2B state championship in 2003. Smith attended Wake Forest University and participate in college football from 2004 until 2008. 

     He was taken 37th overall in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos as a defensive back. Smith played his rookie season with Denver in 2009 and then was with the Detroit Lions for three seasons from 2010 to 2012. 

Chargers Add Kaiir Elam

     The Los Angeles Chargers have added former Palm Beach County high school defensive back Kaiir Elam to their practice squad. He was released by the Kansas City Chiefs this past Saturday. 

     Elam was with the Benjamin Buccaneers during high school football. He landed at the University of Florida for college football. 

Kevin Knowles To Buccaneers

     One-time Broward County high school football Kevin Knowles has been claimed off the waiver wire by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was placed on waivers by the Kansas City Chiefs. Knowles participated as a defensive back in 13 games with the Chiefs during his rookie season in 2025. 

     Knowles played in high school football with the McArthur Mustangs. He moved on to the Florida State University Seminoles for college football. 

Austin Slater Re-Signs With Rays

     Former Miami Marlins outfielder Austin Slater has re-signed a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Rays. He optioned out of his minor league deal with that club on August 25. 

     Slater began the 2026 regular season with the Marlins. He finished with one run batted in and a .174 batting average in 12 contests with the Fish. 

Cam Riley & Jeremiah Franklin Released

     The Miami Dolphins have released two players from their practice squad. They are linebacker Cam Riley and tight end Jeremiah Franklin. 

     Riley played with Auburn University from 2020 to 2023 followed by Florida State University in 2024. Franklin spent four years at Boston College from 2022 until 2025. 

Rangers Ink John King

     The Texas Rangers have signed relief pitcher John King to a minor league contract. It will be his second stint with that organization. King was with them from 2020 until 2023. 

     King pitched 50 games for the Miami Marlins during the 2026 campaign. He was released by the Fish last week. 

Xavier Restrepo Back With Titans

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Xavier Restrepo has returned to the Tennessee Titans. He signed a contract to join their practice squad. Restrepo got to see NFL action in two games with the Titans last season. 

     Restrepo played his first three years of high school football with the St. Thomas Aquinas. He contributed to STA winning the FHSAA Class 7A state championship in 2016 during his junior year. He transferred to the Deerfield Beach Bucks for his senior season. 

Marlins Outpace Royals

     The Miami Marlins outlasted the Kansas City Royals 9-6 at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday night. The Marlins will complete their seven-game road swing tomorrow. 

     Miami(71-69) rocketed out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Kansas City(62-78) answered back quickly compiling five runs in the bottom of the first for a 5-2 advantage. 

     The Marlins slowly climbed back into the contest during the middle innings. The Fish placed three runs in the sixth inning and regained the lead 7-6. They were able to add two insurance runs in the top of the ninth for a three-run margin. 

Mazi Smith On Dolphins Practice Squad

     The Miami Dolphins have picked up free agent defensive lineman Mazi Smith. He was released by the New York Jets on Saturday. 

     Smith was selected 26th overall in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys. He was with them for three seasons until the Cowboys traded him to the Jets in November 2025. 

WQAM On SiriusXM Radio

      The signal on 104.3 Sports WQAM-FM and sister-station 560 WQAM-AM appeared on the airwaves of SiriusXM Radio beginning today. The WQAM signal is on the SiriusXM app and does not have its own satellite radio channel. 

     Audacy agreed in July to have all of their branded and owned terrestrial sports talk radio stations placed on SiriusXM Radio. Nine Audacy terrestrial sports stations from different cities picked up their own channel such as New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Dallas, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. 15 other Audacy terrestrial sports stations, which included WQAM, has a spot on the SiriusXM app. 

Marlins Crown Royals

     The Miami Marlins pulled by the Kansas City Royals 6-3 at Kauffman Stadium on Tuesday night. The Fish continued their seven- game road trip. 

     It may be the final visit by the Marlins to that ballpark. The Royals will be moving out of that venue in a couple of years.

     Miami(70-69) pushed out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second. Graham Pauley socked a two-run homer to right field on a 1-1 count with Owen Caissie aboard. It was just the second home run by Pauley this year. 

     The Marlins increased their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth. Kyle Stowers pounded a solo home run to right field on a 0-1 pitch for his 17th homer of the season. 

     Kansas City(62-77) surrendered three more runs in the seventh inning and trailed 6-0. Pauley knocked in Otto Lopez and Joe Mack with a triple into the right-center field gap. Javier Sanoja followed with a base hit into left field and Pauley crossed the plate. 

     The Royals broke the shutout in the bottom of the eighth with two runs and were down 6-2. Carter Jensen doubled off the left-field wall and Josh Rojas touched home. Bobby Witt Jr. followed with a sacrifice fly to left field and Isaac Collins scored. 

     In the ninth inning, Kansas City cut it to 6-2. Nick Loftin bashed a solo homer to left field on a 0-1 pitch for his seventh home run of the campaign. 

Phillip Dorsett Released By Raiders

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Phillip Dorsett has been released by the Las Vegas Raiders. It was a surprise considering that he attended the St. Thomas Aquinas game in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. He has not played in a National Football League game since 2023. 

     Dorsett played high school football with St. Thomas Aquinas. He contributed to the Raiders winning two FHSAA state titles and two national championships in 2008 and 2010. He later attended the University of Miami for college football. 

     He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts 29th overall in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Dorsett won a Super Bowl title in 2018 during his stint with the New England Patriots. 

Chiefs Releasing Kaiir Elam

     The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing defensive back Kaiir Elam. He joined their organization as a free agent in early April. 

     Elam played high school football with the Benjamin Buccaneers. He later attended the University of Florida for college football. 

     He was taken 23rd overall in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Elam was there for three seasons before splitting his time with the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans in 2025. 

Bobby Hart On Seahawks Practice Squad

     The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed offensive lineman Bobby Hart and have placed him on their practice squad. He was released by the organization back on Tuesday. Hart signed a contract with the team back in June. 

     Hart played the first three seasons high school football with the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs. He won a FHSAA Class 5A state championship and a national championship with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders during his senior year in 2010. Hart spent four seasons of college football with the Florida State University Seminoles. 

Travis Homer Moved By Steelers

     Running back Travis Homer has been placed on the Pittsburgh Steelers on their practice squad. He was released by the club on Monday and then re-signed by them. Homer originally signed a contract with the Steelers in March. 

     Homer was with the Oxbridge Academy Thunderwolves playing high school football. He landed with the University of Miami Hurricanes for college football. Homer was with the Seattle Seahawks from 2019 to 2022 and the Chicago Bears from 2023 until 2025. 

Frank Gore Jr. On Waivers

     The Buffalo Bills have placed running back Frank Gore Jr. on the waiver wire. He did not participate in a contest with the Bills last season. 

     He played high school football with the Miami Killian Cougars. Gore is the son of former University of Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins running back Frank Gore.

Joe Milton On Cowboys Practice Squad

     The Dallas Cowboys are placing quarterback Joe Milton on their practice squad. He got to play in four games last season with the team. He was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots and showed up for one contest that year. 

     Milton, a Pahokee native, played high school football with the Pahokee Blue Devils and then with Olympia Titans in Orlando. He split his time in college football with the University of Michigan Wolverines and the University of Tennessee Volunteers. 

49ers Drop Eli Apple

     Defensive back Eli Apple has been released by the San Francisco 49ers. He participated in just two contests with the Niners. 

     Apple was with the Miami Dolphins during the 2023 campaign. He ended up with one interception in 10 games with the Fins. 

Falcons Eliminate Channing Tindall

     The Atlanta Falcons have released linebacker Channing Tindall. He signed a contract with that club back in March. 

     Tindall was taken by the Miami Dolphins during the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins. He played 44 games with the Fins over three seasons from 2022 to 2024. 

Dolphins Sign Malik Herring

     The Miami Dolphins have added to their roster before the regular season. They have inked defensive lineman Malik Herring. 

     He has played 28 games for the Kansas City Chiefs over the last four seasons from 2022 until 2025. Herring contributed to the Chiefs capturing two Super Bowl titles. 

Players On Dolphins Practice Squad

      The Miami Dolphins have finalized their 53-man roster. They decided on who would be placed on their practice squad. 

      Players placed included wide receiver Jalen Reagor, quarterback Mark Gronowski, tight end Jeremiah Franklin and newly acquired running back Jacquez Hunter. Others on the squad were running back Carlos Washington, safety Major Burns, linebacker Cam Riley and offensive lineman Gottlieb Ayedze.

Dolphins Claim Seven Players

     The Miami Dolphins have claimed seven players off waivers from other NFL team. All 32 NFL rosters had to reach the 53-player limit on Monday for the upcoming 2026 regular season. 

     The most recognized player the Dolphins got was quarterback Brady Cook from the New York Jets. Other players claimed includes defensive back Julius Wood, defensive back Reese Taylor, defensive back Marcellas Dial, tight end Justin Joly, offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston and offensive lineman Chukwuebuka Godrick.  

Dolphins Clelin Ferrell To Practice Squad

     The Miami Dolphins have moved edge rusher Clelin Ferrell to their practice squad. The Fins had released him just a couple of days ago. 

     Ferrell has been in the NFL since the 2019 seasons. His stops include the Oakland Raiders, Las Vegas Raiders, San Francisco 49ers(twice), Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Chargers. 

Dolphins Release A.J. Green

     The Miami Dolphins have released defensive back A.J. Green. He was trying to make the 53-player roster for the 2026 regular season. 

Dolphins Waive Six Players

     The Miami Dolphins placed six players on waivers. They will look to see if any of them will be claimed by another NFL club.

     They include defensive back Ethan Bonner, wide receiver A.J. Henning and offensive lineman Marques Cox. Others are offensive lineman Max Llewllyn, edge rusher Josh Priebe and tight end Ben Sims. 

Jets Release Jason Sanders

     The New York Jets have let go former Miami Dolphins kicker Jason Sanders. He was announced to be their primary kicker by the club last week. 

     Sanders played his entire seven-year NFL career with the Dolphins from 2018 to 2024. He did not participate with Miami during the 2024 season due to an injury. 

Dolphins Trade For Kyle McCord

     The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Kyle McCord from the Green Bay Packers. The Fins send back a 2028 sixth-round pick. 

     McCord participated in college football with Ohio State and then Syracuse. He was selected in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. McCord did not game in a contest last year. 

Dolphins Letting Go Cam Miller

     The Miami Dolphins are releasing quarterback Cam Miller. He was fighting along with several others for the backup quarterback position. 

     Miller inked a contract with a Miami as an undrafted free agent. He played college football with Penn State from 2022 to 2024 and Rutgers in 2025. 

Dolphins Dumping Tyrel Dodson & Lonnie Johnson Jr.

     The Miami Dolphins moved to release more players from their roster. They looked to reach the 53-player mark by Monday.

     The Fins released veteran linebacker Tyrel Dodson and defensive back Lonnie Johnson, Jr. Dodson played 24 games in the past two seasons with Miami. Johnson has bounced around the NFL since 2019. 

Lionel Messi Retires From International Soccer

     Inter Miami CF midfielder Lionel Messi announced his retirement from the Argentina National Team. He will stay with the Herons for the next couple of seasons until his contract ends in 2028. 

     Messi helped Argentina capture the FIFA World Cup in 2022. His squad reached the World Cup Final title game on three separate occasions in 2014, 2022 and 2026. Messi and Cafu of Brazil are the only players ever to participate in three championship contests. Argentina also won the Copa America in the two most recent tournaments in 2021 and 2024. 

     He joined the Argentina National Team 21 years ago in 2005. He participated in six FIFA World Cup tournaments in 2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026. 

     Messi is that nation's all-time leader with 125 goals along with 207 player game appearances, a.k.a. caps. He won a Gold Medal for his country at the 2008 Summer Olympics in China. 

Channing Crowder On Netflix

      104.3 Sports WQAM-FM afternoon co-host Channing Crowder is joining Netflix for the revival of the Pivot Podcast alongside Ryan Clark and Glades Central High School grad Fred Taylor in a multi-year deal. The program will be issued on Tuesdays and Fridays beginning on September 8. Crowder will continue his duties with WQAM. 

     Crowder was part of the Pivot Podcast when it launched in May 2024 until it ended their initial production reign in January 2025. The podcast moved over to Pivot25 Communications. 

     He started working in broadcasting at WQAM as an early afternoon co-host with Adam Kuperstein from October 2012 to September 2013 and from January 2014 to July 2015. Crowder did have short stint as an afternoon co-host with Brandon Guzio from September 2013 until December 2013. 

     Crowder has been an afternoon co-host mainly with Marc Hochman on 560 WQAM since August 2015. His other co-hosts on the program over the past 11 years have included Zach Krantz and Alejandro Solana. The show was simulcasted on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM from August 2019 to October 2022. The program has been on the WQAM-FM airwaves since it launched in August 2025. 

Nationals Down Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were knocked off by the Washington Nationals 6-3 at Nationals Park on Monday night. It was the midway point of the Marlins seven-game road swing. The Fish will visit the Kansas City Royals tomorrow. 

     Miami(69-69) busted out with three runs in the top of the third for a 3-0 lead. Heriberto Hernandez was able to score on a wild pitch. Kyle Stowers later singled up the middle which scored Agustin Ramirez and Javier Sanoja. 

     Washington(66-74) climbed back and trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth. Daylen Lile smacked a two-run homer to left-center field on a 2-2 count with Andrew Pinckney aboard. It turned out to be Lile's 19th home run of the season. 

     The Nationals leaped to the lead 6-3 during the seventh inning with four runs. Lile connected with his second home run of the game and 20th homer of the 2026 campaign. He pounded a 1-0 pitch over the right-field fence with Nasim Nunez on base. Two batters later, Andres Chaparro drove in Abimelec Ortiz on a base hit into right field. Two batters after that, Brady House singled through the right side and Chaparro reached home. 

Anita Marks On Fox Sports Radio

      Former Miami sports talk radio host Anita Marks has been added by Fox Sports Radio. She worked a Saturday evening show with Jason Fitz yesterday.

     It possibly means that Marks is no longer with ESPN. She has been employed as a fantasy football panelist on ESPN television programs. No ESPN on-air talent works for Fox Sports Radio. 

     Marks was first noticed locally as a morning co-host alongside Carl Foster on 940 WRFX-AM from 2002 to early 2004. Both joined 1400 The Fan WFLL-AM as a morning co-hosts in April 2004. Marks was promoted to the afternoon host position in early 2006 and remained there until April 2006. 

     She left to become an afternoon host on WJFK-AM in Baltimore. The sports talk format was shifted to the FM frequency WJZ-FM. Marks was afternoon co-host at that radio station until January 2010. 

     Marks returned to South Florida and replaced Jim Mandich, who left that radio station due to his health. She co-hosted afternoons with Curtis Stevenson on Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM from February 2010 to June 2010. 

     She had one more run in Miami radio. Marks was a mid-afternoon co-host, specifically on Mondays and Fridays, with Foster on 940 WINZ-AM for one month in October 2018. 

Marlins Come Back On Nationals

      The Miami Marlins overcame the Washington Nationals Miami Marlins 6-2 on Sunday at Nationals Park. Both teams will complete their four-game weekend series tomorrow. 

     Washington(65-74) had a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Nasim Nunez doubled to deep right field and Jacob Young scored.

     Miami(69-68) gave up another run in the eighth inning and the Marlins were down 2-0. Daylen Lile hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Brady House crossed the plate.

     The Marlins came back with six runs in the top of the ninth to take a 6-2 lead. The Nats could not score in the bottom of the frame.

Dolphins Trade Quinn Ewers

     The Miami Dolphins traded quarterback Quinn Ewers to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Fins will receive back a 2028 sixth round draft pick in the exchange. 

     Ewers was selected by the Dolphins in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He had 55 pass completions for 622 passing yards and three touchdowns in his only season in Miami. 

Joshisa Trader With North Carolina State

     Former Broward County high school football wide receiver Joshisa Trader is now with the North Carolina State University Wolfpack. He was with the University of Miami Hurricanes for two seasons in 2024 and 2025. He transferred during the offseason to another Atlantic Coast Conference team. 

     Trader played high school football with the Chaminade-Madonna Lions from 2020 to 2023. He captured three consecutive FHSAA state championships in 2021, 2022 and 2023. 

Columbus Upsets Bishop Gorman

     The Bishop Gorman Gaels were shocked by the Columbus Explorers 33-28 on Saturday at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale. It was one of the contests in the Broward County Showcase held this weekend. The Gaels, who entered ranked first nationally by MaxPreps, travelled in from Las Vegas while the Explorers rode up from Dade County. 

     The game was held up for one hour before the game started due to a lightning delay. Six plays were executed before another weather delay was implemented.

     Columbus(2-0) got out to a 7-0 lead midway in the first quarter. Quarterback Kai Moore tossed a screen pass up the middle and running back Cecil Smith raced 47 yards down the left side for the score. The Explorers extended their lead to 14-0 on a passing touchdown two minutes into the second quarter. 

     Bishop Gorman(2-1) was down 20-0 with 5:47 remaining in the first half. Moore fired an 11-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Amir Sears on the right side of the end zone. 

     The Gaels broke the shutout with 2:50 left in the second quarter to make it 20-7. Quarterback Ace Amina connected an eight-yard pass to wide receiver Trent Walker on the front right side of the end zone. The Lions made it 23-7 on a 25-yard field goal by Matteo Miller with 19 seconds to go in the second. 

     Bishop Gorman closed it to 23-15 on the final play of the first half. Amina tossed a hail-mary pass for a 74-yard touchdown. Wide receiver Michael Blackmond caught the ball on the left hash marks and sprinted into the end zone. Tight end Seager Milholen caught a two-point conversion pass in the back right corner of the end zone from Amina. 

     After a scoreless third quarter, Columbus added to the their lead 30-15 at the 9:43 mark of the fourth quarter. Moore threw a 28-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tony Brown III on the front left corner of the end zone. It became 33-15 for the Lions when Miller kicked a 35-yard field goal with 7:58 left in the fourth. 

     The Gaels cut the deficit to 33-21 with 2:21 to go in the final quarter. Amina rolled out to his right and found wide receiver Aizen Costalas-Torres in the top right corner of the end zone for a seven-yard score. They failed on the two-point conversion pass. 

     Bishop Gorman would recover the ensuing on-side kick. It led to a 12-yard touchdown pass from Amina to wide receiver Azavier McDaniel with 1:12 remaining in the fourth and the Gaels were down 33-28. The next on-side kick was recovered by Columbus and led to the conclusion of the contest. 

Lionel Messi Four Goals Routs CF Montreal

     Lionel Messi had his best scoring Major League Soccer game with four goals as Inter Miami CF decimated CF Montreal 7-1 at Nu Stadium on Saturday night. The Herons, who continued their three-game homestand, are second in the Eastern Conference standings. 

     In the first half, Inter Miami CF(12-4-6) scored in the 20th minute for a 1-0 lead. Telasco Segovia took a corner kick from the left side and Carlos Casemiro put in a header from six yards. It was the first Major League Soccer goal for Casemiro. 

     CF Montreal(5-11-6) made it 1-1 in the 37th minute. Fabian Herbers drilled in a 21-yard shot with his right foot. 

     The Herons answered back in the 40th minute and reclaimed the lead 2-1. Lionel Messi booted a left-footed shot on a direct kick from 22 yards away. 

     It became 3-1 for Inter Miami CF early in the second half during the 52nd minute. Messi compiled his second goal of the contest. He dribbled through the defense in the middle of the penalty area and placed in a six-yard shot with his right foot into the low left corner of the cage. Messi now leads Major League Soccer in goals this season. 

     The Herons extended their lead to 4-1 over CF Montreal in the 80th minute. Luis Suarez was able to make it a three-goal margin. 

     Messi picked up the hat trick with his third goal of the game in the 83rd minute. He chipped in a shot from 14 yards out with his left foot. 

     Alexander Shaw added on to the lead 6-1 in the 89th minute of play. He blasted a 27-yard shot with his right foot. 

     Inter Miami CF increased it to 7-1 during stoppage time at the end of the second half as Messi collected his fourth goal of the contest. He fired a left-footed, 21-yard direct kick into the right side of the net. 

St. Thomas Aquinas Dominates DeSoto

     The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders destroyed the DeSoto Eagles 38-14 on Simmons Family Field at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. The Raiders ended a three-game losing streak in nationally televised August games on ESPN.

     The Eagles made the long trip from Texas to play in this contest. It was part of the Broward County High School Showcase. 

     St. Thomas Aquinas(2-0) got out to a 7-0 lead at the 10:17 mark of the first quarter. On their first offensive play of the game, running back Tyler Reid rushed to the left sideline and then cut back to the middle of the field for a touchdown from 57 yards away. 

     The Raiders made it 14-0 with 52 seconds left in the first. DeSoto(0-1) quarterback Jayden Shaw threw an interception and defensive back Jaden Carey returned it down the right sideline for a 38-yard touchdown.

     STA increased their lead to 17-0 with 6:20 to go in the second quarter. Kyle Infinti was able to kick a 33-yard field goal. 

     The Raiders got a turnover on a fumble by Eagles running back Sarod Baker and recovery by linebacker Jackson Leimberger at the 13-yard line. On the next play, running back Collin Francis dashed up the middle and sprinted into the end zone on a 13-yard touchdown run to give them a 24-0 advantage with 4:27 remaining in the second. 

     The Eagles surrendered another touchdown to St. Thomas Aquinas later in the second quarter and trailed 31-0 at half. The Raiders expanded their lead to 38-0 with 19 seconds left in the first half. Quarterback Blake Calixte connected a nine-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. on the left hash marks. 

     A running clock was implemented for the second half. DeSoto got on the scoreboard at the 6:49 mark of the third quarter to make it 38-8. Baker plunged up the middle from one yard out. He then sprinted around the left end on a two-point conversion run. 

     The Eagles cut it to 38-14 with 2:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. Wide receiver Kendrick McCoy caught a 21-yard touchdown pass on the left hash marks from quarterback Patrick Harris Jr. They were stopped on the two-point conversion run. 

Nationals Walk By Marlins

     The Washington Nationals slipped by the Miami Marlins 5-4 in 10 innings at Nationals Park on Saturday. The Marlins will finish their series with the Nationals on Sunday. 

     Washington(65-73) broke out to a 4-0 advantage as they compiled four run in the bottom of the third. Miami(68-68) was able to catch up with four runs during the top of the seventh and tied it up 4-4. 

     The Nationals got the walk-off victory in the 10th inning. Dylan Crews singled to center field with the bases loaded and Nasim Nunez scored. 

Heat Re-Sign Keshad Johnson

     The Miami Heat have reupped guard Keshad Johnson. He has agreed to sign a two-way contract with the organization. 

     Johnson played his entire two-season NBA career with the Heat. He averaged a career-high 4.3 points per game in 32 games last season. 

Heat Grab J'Vonne Hadley

      The Miami Heat have inked guard J'Vonne Hadley to an Exhibit 10 contract. The terms of the deal was not announced. 

     Hadley spent college basketball with Northeastern, Colorado and Louisville. He was an undrafted free agent.

Heat Sign Nick Richards

     The Miami Heat have signed Nick Richards to a deal. It is a one-year contract between him and the team. 

     He was with the Phoenix Suns and the Chicago Bulls during the 2025-26 season. Richards finished with a 5.8 points per game last season. 

Vero Beach Handles Atlantic

     The Vero Beach Indians stopped the Atlantic Eagles 45-30 at Billy Livings Field on Friday night. The Indians were a FHSAA Class 7A state finalist last year. The Eagles made the 100-mile trip up I-95 from Palm Beach County to Indian River County. 

     Atlantic(1-1) jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. The Indians moved ahead 13-7 later in the frame with two touchdowns.

     Vero Beach(2-0) took charge in the second quarter of play. They poured on 18 points for a 31-7 halftime lead.

      The Eagles could not overcome their opponent. They did outscore the Indians 23-14 during the second half.

American Heritage Edges East St. Louis

     The American Heritage Patriots escaped the East St. Louis Flyers 35-28 in overtime at Bill Laurie Stadium in Plantation on Friday night. The Flyers flew in from the St. Louis area. 

     American Heritage(1-1) did not come out sluggish like they did last week. The Pats collected two touchdowns in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead at halftime.

     East St. Louis(1-1) mounted a major comeback in the second half. They eventually tied it up 28-28 with 21 points during the fourth quarter. The Patriots scored a touchdown in overtime to get the victory 35-28.

Cardinal Newman Over Cardinal Mooney

     The Cardinal Newman Crusaders defeated the Cardinal Mooney Cougars 48-47 at Austin Smithers Stadium on Friday night. The Crusaders made the trip across the state to Sarasota.  

     It was a battle between two championship squads from last year. The Crusaders won the FHSAA Class 1A state championship while the Cougars captured the FHSAA Class 2A state title. 

     Cardinal Newman(2-0) rushed out to 14-7 lead after one quarter. They Crusaders had a 23-13 advantage by the end of the first half. 

     Cardinal Mooney(1-1) found themselves down 40-20 after three quarters. The Cougars ripped out 26 points in the fourth quarter were down 47-46 at the conclusion of the game. They had a go-ahead field goal blocked in the final minute of the fourth. 

Falcons Fly By Dolphins

     The Atlanta Falcons downed the Miami Dolphins 17-12 at Hard Rock Stadium on Friday night. It was the final preseason game for both clubs. 

     The Dolphins will open up the 2026 regular season on September 13 at the Las Vegas Raiders. Former Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa took several snaps on offense for the Falcons in the opening quarter. He was seven-for-eight in passing attempts for 95 passing yards. 

     Atlanta held a 7-3 advantage at the conclusion of the first quarter. Miami was behind 17-3 with 3:28 left in the second quarter on a touchdown pass. The Fins kicked a field goal near the end of the first half and trailed 17-6.

     The Dolphins picked up a field goal midway in the third. The Fins added another field goal late in the fourth and they were down 17-12..

Nationals Can Marlins

     The Miami Marlins were walloped by the Washington Nationals 9-2 on Friday night at Nationals Park. The Marlins had won four of their past six games entering tonight. 

     Miami(68-67) zoomed out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Washington(64-73) compiled five runs during the bottom of the third to take a 5-1 lead.

      The Nationals poured on four runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 9-1 advantage. The Marlins managed a run in the top of the eighth and trailed 9-2.

Chris Driedger Heads To Canucks

     One-time Florida Panthers goalie is returning to the National Hockey League. The Vancouver Canucks have signed him to a professional tryout offer. He spent 23 games with Traktor Chelyabinsk in the Kontinental Hockey League last season and lasted just two months. Driedger finished with a 8-9-7 record and a 3.05 goals-against-average. 

     Driedger was with the Panthers for two seasons in 2019-20 and 2020-21. He ended up with a 21-8-4 record, .931 save percentage and a 2.07 goals-against-average in 34 contests with Florida. 

Tutu Atwell Returned To Rams

     The Miami Dolphins have traded wide receiver Tutu Atwell. He has been sent back to the Los Angeles Rams for running back Jarquez Hunter. Atwell signed with the Dolphins as a free agent back in March. 

     Atwell was first known as a quarterback with the Miami Northwestern Bulls. He led them to a FHSAA Class 6A state championship in 2017. It was The West first state title since 2007. Atwell then participated in college football with the University of Louisville as a wide receiver from 2018 to 2020. 

     He was taken by the Rams at 57th overall in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Atwell had 105 pass receptions for 1,535 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 64 games with Los Angeles. He helped the Rams to a championship in Super Bowl LVI. 

     Hunter was selected by the Rams in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He played in five contests and had no rushing attempts during his rookie year.  

Packers Getting Jonnu Smith

     The Green Bay Packers are expected to sign tight end Jonnu Smith to a contract. It will be a one-year deal. 

     Smith played one season with the Miami Dolphins in 2024. He ended up with 88 catches for 884 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games with the Fins. Smith was traded along with Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers for Minkah Fitzpatrick in June 2025. 

Raptors Retiring Kyle Lowry Number

     The Toronto Raptors announced they will retire the number 7 jersey of guard Kyle Lowry. It will happen at Scotiabank Arena on January 10. 

     It will be the second number that the Raptors have retired. It first occurred for Vince Carter and his number 15 jersey.

     Lowry was with Toronto for nine NBA seasons from 2012-13 to 2020-21. He guided the Raptors to their first NBA title in 2019. 

     He later played for the Miami Heat from 2021-22 until the middle of the 2023-24 campaign. Lowry helped the Heat win the Eastern Conference championship in 2023. He averaged 11.4 points per game for Miami in 155 contests. 

Chaminade-Madonna Falls To Sierra Canyon

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions lost to the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers 24-7 on Heritage Field at Bill Laurie Stadium in Plantation on the American Heritage High School campus on Thursday night.

     The Lions were a FHSAA Class 1A state finalist last year. They have reached the state title game for a state-record 10 consecutive years. 

     This contest was part of the Broward County Showcase. The Trailblazers made the long cross-country trip from Chatsworth, California. 

     Sierra Canyon(2-0) scored a touchdown during the middle of the first half and had a 7-0 lead. Chaminade-Madonna(1-1) tied it up on a touchdown with three minutes left in the second quarter and made it 7-7. 

     The Trailblazers would take charge in the second half. They compiled two touchdowns and field goal by the midway point of the fourth quarter and had a 24-7 lead. 

Miami Northwestern Takes Miami Jackson In Soul Bowl

     The Miami Northwestern Bulls smashed the Miami Jackson Generals 42-0 in the 2026 Soul Bowl held at Traz Powell Stadium on Thursday night. It continued the longtime rivalry between both high schools. 

     Miami Northwestern(2-0) was the only team score in the first two quarters. The West held a 19-0 lead at halftime. 

     Miami Jackson(1-1) fell more behind in the second half. The Bulls made it 28-0 in the third quarter and added 14 more points in the fourth for a 42-0 advantage. 

Monarch Outlasts Miramar

     The Monarch Knights outscored the Miramar Patriots outscored the Monarch Knights 48-41 on Thursday night at Don Conkel Stadium at Coconut Creek High School. It was the second straight week that the Knights hosted a Thursday night contest at a neutral site. 

     The offense of both Miramar(0-2) and Monarch(1-1) produced heavily during the first half of play. Monarch had a 14-6 advantage early in the second quarter. 

     The Knights reached the end zone again with nine minutes remaining in the second quarter and led 20-6. The Patriots and Knights responded to each other with one touchdown each later in the frame with the Knights ahead 27-13. Miramar got a score along with a two-point conversion in the final minute of the second quarter and trailed 27-21 at halftime. 

     Miramar outscored their opponent 12-6 in the third quarter to tie it up 33-33. Monarch reclaimed the lead 40-33 midway through the fourth quarter with a score. The Patriots answered back with a touchdown and a two-point conversion and had a 41-40 lead with two minutes remaining in the fourth. The Knights would get a touchdown and picked up a two-point conversion in the final minute of the game for a 48-41.

Marlins Drop John King

     The Miami Marlins released relief pitcher John King. He was placed on release waivers and is not expected to be claimed by any club. 

     King had a 6-2 record with a 3.99 earned run average in 50 contests this season for Miami. He previously was with the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals 

Austin Slater Exits Rays

      Austin Slater has opted out of his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays. He signed a minor league deal with the club and was never promoted from the minors. 

     Slater ended his third reign with a MLB team this season. He played 12 games with the Miami Marlins earlier this year and had a .174 batting average. 

Marlins Stop Red Sox

     The Miami Marlins blanked the Boston Red Sox 4-0 on Wednesday night at loanDepot park. The Marlins finished off a six-game homestand with a 4-2 record. The Red Sox snapped a five-game winning streak with the loss. 

     Miami(68-66) had a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Heriberto Hernandez singled through the left side and Kyle Stowers reached home. 

     The Fish added another run in the second inning to go up 2-0. Otto Lopez stole second, advanced two bases on a throwing error and scored. 

     Boston(73-60) fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the eighth as the Marlins collected two more runs. Owen Caissie hit a ball to first and Nick Sogard made a fielding error for Lopez to score. Two batters later, Javier Sanoja drove in Esteury Ruiz with a single into center field. 

Dolphins Bring In Ryan Miller

     The Miami Dolphins have claimed wide receiver Ryan Miller off waivers from the New York Giants. He was claimed by the Giants from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in December 2025. 

     Miller has been with the Bucs for his entire three-year NFL career. He had 14 pass receptions for 162 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 25 games from 2023 to 2025. 

Dolphins Let Go Jamaree Salyer

     The Miami Dolphins have released offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer. The Fins were able to sign him back on March 13. 

     Salyer has spent his entire National Football League career with the Los Angeles Chargers. He played 64 contests for them from 2022 until 2025. 

Zack Moss Utah Utes Radio Sideline Reporter

     One-time Broward County high school football running back Zack Moss has been named the new radio sideline reporter for University of Utah Utes football game broadcasts. He will begin his first role in the professional broadcasting industry on September 3. 

     Moss played high school football with the Hallandale Chargers from 2012 until 2015. He along with quarterback Tyler Huntley defeated quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Boynton Beach Tigers for the District 15-6A title in 2014. The Chargers went on the road and eliminated the defending two-time FHSAA Class 5A state champions the American Heritage Patriots in the 2015 regional semifinals.

     After high school, Moss went to the University of Utah from 2016 to 2019. He was selected at 86th overall in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. Moss with the Bills from 2020 to 2022, the Indianapolis Colts from 2022 to 2023 and with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2024. He rushed for 2,318 yards and 16 touchdowns in 61 NFL games. 

Red Sox Top Marlins

     The Boston Red Sox took the Miami Marlins 7-3 in 11 innings at loanDepot park on Tuesday night. The Marlins will complete their six-game homestand tomorrow. 

     The BoSox extended their winning streak to five games. Red Sox relief pitcher Tyron Guerrero made his first loanDepot park appearance since he played for the Miami Marlins in 2019. 

     Boston(73-59) broke out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second. Mickey Gasper lifted a solo home run on a 0-1 pitch barely over the right-center field fence for his fourth homer of the year.   

     Miami(67-66) pulled even 1-1 in the bottom of the fifth. Brian Navarretto drove in Leo Jimenez with a sacrifice fly to center field. 

     It became 2-1 for the Red Sox in the top of the sixth. Gasper powered a solo homer to center field on a 1-1 count for his second home run of the contest and fifth home run of the campaign. 

     The Marlins tied it up 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth. Heriberto Hernandez crushed a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch for his 20th home run of the season. 

     Boston took a 3-2 advantage in the top of the 10th. Connor Wong was able to cross the plate on a passed ball.   

     The Fish made it 3-3 in the bottom of the 10th. Javier Sanoja struck out on a wild pitch and Navarreto scored. 

     The contest completely changed in the 11th inning as the Red Sox piled on four runs and led 7-3. Jarren Duran smashed a grand-slam home run to right-center field on a 1-0 count for his 18th homer in 2026. Willson Contreras, Jahmai Jones and Andruw Monasterio scored in front of him on the play. It was the first time that the Marlins surrendered an extra-inning, grand-slam home run since 2013. 

Seahawks Waive Anthony Hankerson

     The Seattle Seahawks have waived running back Anthony Hankerson. He signed with the club back on August 17.

     The Miami Dolphins inked him as an undrafted free agent in April. He was placed on waivers by the team on August 10. 

     Hankerson played high school football with St. Thomas Aquinas. He contributed to the Raiders capturing three consecutive FHSAA Class 7A state championships in 2019, 2020 and 2021.  

Tyron Herring Waived By Browns

     Former South Florida high school football quarterback Tyron Herring has been waived from the injured list by the Cleveland Browns. He signed a contract with the Browns as a defensive back in late May.

     Herring played high school football with two different squads. He was with the Boynton Beach Tigers in 2015 and 2016 followed by the Deerfield Beach Bucks in 2017 and 2018. 

Matt Haack Ends With Patriots

     Former Miami Dolphins punter Matt Haack has signed a one-year contract with the New England Patriots. He was dropped from training camp by the Washington Commanders on August 18. 

     Haack spent his first four NFL seasons with the Dolphins from 2017 to 2020. He involved in 64 games with the Fins and never missed a contest. 

WSCR-FM Adds Jarrett Payton

     One-time University of Miami running back Jarrett Payton has joined WSCR-FM in Chicago as a morning co-host. He will start his new position on August 31. 

     Payton, son of Chicago Bears legendary running back Walter Payton, learned announcing from the Illinois Center For Broadcasting. He entered professional broadcasting with WGWG-AM as an afternoon co-host. Payton worked for WGN-AM as a weekend afternoon co-host. He then landed in television at CLTV as an evening co-host. 

     He would have his longest reign of employment in broadcasting with WGN-TV as a sports anchor. Payton, a University of Miami 2003 grad and member of the 2001 national champions, was there from May 2015 to July 2026. 

Dan Le Batard Show On NBC Sports NOW

     The Dan Le Batard Show has aired at noon on NBC Sports NOW since the middle of June. They reached their 47th episode with that platform on Monday. 

     The program will be shifted to another time slot next Monday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. NBC Sports NOW announced that Not So Fast with Andrew Perloff and Paul Pabst will take over the 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. spot beginning on August 31. 

     Le Batard, a University of Miami 1990 grad, has owned Meadowlark Media since January 2021. He hosts the Dan Le Batard Show along with South Beach Sessions podcast. 

     He began as a sports columnist with the Miami Herald. Le Batard appeared on ESPN television programs and hosted a weekend show on ESPN Radio in the early 2000s. 

     Le Batard started hosting an afternoon show with Jon Weiner, a.k.a. Stugotz, when Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM launched in August 2004. The program would eventually be nationally syndicated during afternoons on ESPN Radio beginning in September 2013. The show was moved to the midday shift in September 2015 and it lasted on that network until January 2021. 

     The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz also moved on 790 The Ticket in Miami from afternoon drive to middays in September 2015. The program was placed on sister-station 560 WQAM-AM in August 2019. It became a late morning show on WQAM in August 2020 and stayed there thru January 2021. 

Good Karma Brands Rebrands To Good Karma Sports

     Good Karma Brands has been rebranded to Good Karma Sports. It was the second time that chief executive officer Craig Karmazin and president Steve Politziner has changed the name of the company. They were known as Good Karma Broadcasting from 1997 until January 2014.

     Good Karma Sports owns ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM and Deportes Radio 760 WEFL-AM in West Palm Beach. The organization entered the South Florida media market launching WEFL in March 2003. 

     They also own other radio stations in major markets that carry some local sports shows and nationally syndicated ESPN Radio. It includes WEPN-AM in New York City, KSPN-AM in Los Angeles, WMVP-AM in Chicago, WKNR-AM in Cleveland, WTMJ-AM in Milwaukee and WTLX-FM in Madison. Good Karma Brands does manage WHSQ-AM in New York City, which is owned by Audacy. 

Fort Pierce Westwood Sacks Palm Beach Gardens

     The Palm Beach Gardens Gators fell to the Fort Pierce Westwood Panthers 21-7 at Lawnwood Stadium in St. Lucie County on Monday night. The contest was postponed three days ago due to inclement weather. It was the only high school football game played in South Florida tonight. 

     Palm Beach Gardens(0-1) will visit the Jupiter Warriors later on this week. Fort Pierce Westwood(1-0) will host the Centennial Eagles on Friday. 

Red Sox Outduel Marlins

     The Boston Red Sox defeated the Miami Marlins 4-2 at loanDepot park on Monday night. Both clubs entered the contest with three-game winning streaks. The Red Sox visited Miami for the first time since the 2024 regular season. 

     Former third baseman Mike Lowell was in attendance for the game. He captured a World Series with the Marlins in 2003 and the Red Sox in 2007. 

     Miami(67-65) pushed out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Otto Lopez drove in Jakob Marsee with a sacrifice fly to center field. 

     Boston(72-59) tied it 1-1 in the top of the fifth. Mickey Gasper doubled off the center-field wall for Jarren Duran to score. 

     The Marlins leaped to a 2-1 advantage in the seventh inning. Xavier Edwards singled through the right side with the bases loaded and Lopez crossed the plate. 

     The Red Sox evened it up 2-2 during the eighth inning. Wilyer Abreu was able to reach home on a wild pitch. 

     In the top of the ninth, the BoSox picked up their first lead of the game 4-2 as they added two more runs. Anthony Seigler knocked in Eli White on a triple down the right-field line. Nick Sogard followed with a base hit through the right side and Seigler scored. 

Marlins Sweep Nationals

     The Miami Marlins topped the Washington Nationals 6-2 on Sunday at loanDepot park. The Marlins held a pregame ceremony for television game analyst Tommy Hutton. He is retiring from the broadcast booth at the end of the 2026 season. 

     The Marlins, who pulled off a three-game sweep of the Nats, reached the midway point of their six-game homestand. The Fish will host the Boston Red Sox tomorrow. 

     Miami(67-64) struck first in the opening frame to go up 1-0. Heriberto Hernandez doubled into the left-field corner and Agustin Ramirez scored.

     Washington(61-71) evened it up 1-1 in the top of the fourth. Dylan Crews doubled to deep center field which brought in Daylen Lile.

     The Marlins moved in front 3-1 in the fifth ining. Xavier Edwards singled into left field to score Otto Lopez and Ramirez.

     The Nationals closed it to 3-2 in the top of the sixth. Jorbit Vivas doubled off the right-field wall and Keibert Ruiz reached home.

     It became 5-2 for the Fish during the bottom of the sixth. Joe Mack sliced a double down the left-field line and Jakob Marsee crossed the plate. Lopez came up next and hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Griffin Conine touched home.

     The Nationals gave up another run in the eighth inning and were down 6-2. Marsee scored on a force out to second by Mack. 

Inter Miami CF Loses To Toronto FC

     Toronto FC upended Inter Miami CF 2-1 at Nu Stadium on Saturday night. The Herons, who began a three-game homestand over the next two weeks, are winless in their past four Major League Soccer games with a 0-2-2 record. 

     Neither scored in the first half of play. Toronto FC(5-7-9) had a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute when Josh Sargent powered in a left-footed shot from 18 yards away into the low left corner of the cage. 

     They scored again several minutes later in the 62nd minute. Derrick Etienne Jr. one-timed a rebound shot with his right foot from eight yards to make it 2-0. 

     Inter Miami CF(11-3-6) broke the shutout during the 82nd minute and cut the deficit to 2-1. Rodrigo De Paul connected a lead pass from near the midfield circle. Lionel Messi tapped in a left-footed shot from 15 yards out. 

Marlins Scoot By Nationals

     The Miami Marlins held off the Washington Nationals 4-2 on Saturday at loanDepot park. The Marlins continued their homestand. 

     Miami(66-64) came up strong to begin the contest. They scored two runs in the bottom of the first and added one more run during the second inning for a 3-0 lead. 

     Washington(61-70) closed it to 3-1 in the top of the fourth. The Fish matched it in the bottom of the fourth and reclaimed a three-run margin 4-1. The Nationals answered back with one run in the fifth inning and were down 4-2. 

Giants Stomp Dolphins

      The New York Giants mangled the Miami Dolphins 26-3 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. It was the second of three preseason games for both clubs. The Dolphins will host the Atlanta Falcons in their last contest of the 2026 preseason next Thursday night. 

     New York took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Giants extended their lead to 17-0 with a touchdown and field goal in the second quarter. 

     Miami got their only points in the game late in the second quarter. The Fins got a field goal in the first two minutes of the first half and trailed 17-3. New York answered back with a field goal on the final play of the second quarter for a 17-point halftime margin. 

     The Giants were the only team to get on the scoreboard during the second half. They had a field goal during the third quarter and a field goal in the fourth quarter for a 26-3 lead. 

2026 High School Football Radio Broadcasts

     The 2026 high school football season began this week throughout South Florida. There was only one local radio station in the tri-county area that will broadcast high school football this year. Five South Florida radio stations announced high school football games back in 2011. 

     ESPN West Palm 106.3 WESP-FM had their weekly Friday night high school football game broadcast. Good Karma Brands and their West Palm Beach cluster has aired high school football games since 2010. 

     Michael Rizzo, ESPN West Palm afternoon co-host, began his first season as play-by-play announcer. He has announced Inter Miami CF audio broadcast of their Major League Soccer games for the past two seasons as their play-by-play announcer. Rizzo replaces Christian Katt as their high school football radio voice. Katt held the post since the 2024 season. 

     Former Palm Beach Lakes Rams head coach Al Shipman takes over as the radio game analyst. He replaces Jimmie Bell, who announced their games since 2014. 

     Colin Russo entered his third season as their studio host on their high school football contests. He is an afternoon co-host on ESPN West Palm alongside Rizzo. 

Klay Thompson Joining Miami Heat

     Klay Thompson is expected to join the Miami Heat. He was bought out by the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.  

     The Miami Heat look to sign Thompson to a two-year contract that is worth $11.5 million. Thompson captured four NBA championships with the Golden State Warriors in 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022 and has played in six NBA Finals. 

Heat Hire Vin Baker

     The Miami Heat have hired Vin Baker to be a part of their coaching staff. He will work under head coach Erik Spoelstra. 

     Baker spent the past eight seasons as a Milwaukee Bucks assistant coach. He helped the Bucks win their first NBA title in 50 years back in 2021. Baker has coached center Giannis Antetokounmpo throughout most of his career while in Milwaukee. 

Key West Closes Boca Raton

     The Key West Conchs moved by the Boca Raton Bobcats 30-7 at Bobcat Stadium on Friday night in Boca Raton. The Conchs made the long trip from the Florida Keys to the southern edge of Palm Beach County for the contest. It was the first game of the 2026 regular season for both high schools. 

     Key West(1-0) struck for a touchdown in the first quarter for a 7-0 advantage. The Conchs added another score three minutes into the second quarter and led 14-0. 

     Boca Raton(0-1) broke the shutout late in the first half to make it 14-7. They picked up a touchdown with four minutes to go in the second quarter. 

     In the second half, the Conchs expanded their lead to 22-7. Key West compiled a touchdown followed by a two-point conversion in the opening minute of the third quarter. The Conchs did the same thing late in the final quarter and were up 30-7.

Damon Amendolara Leaving Weekday Show

     Former Miami sports talk radio host Damon Amendolara is leaving Mad Dog Radio on SiriusXM Radio. He has co-hosted the morning show on Mad Dog Radio since October 2023. Amendolara will continue his role as a Sunday mid-morning host of SiriusXM NFL Tailgate Show on NFL Radio during the pro football season. 

     Amendolara was once on the 560 WQAM-AM airwaves. He held the late night host and weekend host positions at that radio station from early 2008 until August 2009. 

     He moved on to WBZ-FM in Boston and was their evening host from August 2009 to December 2012. Amendolara, a Syracuse University 2001 grad, spent time at CBS Sports Radio Network from January 2013 to September 2023. His numerous roles there included overnight host, evening host, late morning host, Sunday host and morning host. 

West Boca Raton Takes American Heritage

     Two defending state champions faced each other of the football gridiron on Friday night in Broward County. The reigning two-time FHSAA Class 6A state champions the West Boca Raton Bulls defeated the two-time defending FHSAA Class 4A state champions the American Heritage Patriots 24-7 at Bill Laurie Stadium in Plantation. 

     West Boca Raton(1-0) moved out to a 7-0 lead. They were able to pick up a touchdown with four minutes remaining in the opening quarter when quarterback Trey Moran fired a 40-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Lorontae Davis on the left hash marks. The Bulls increased their lead to 14-0 three minutes into the second quarter as Davis caught a five-yard touchdown swing pass from Moran on the right side. 

     American Heritage(0-1) surrendered another touchdown midway through the third quarter and found themselves behind 21-0 when Moran plunged up the middle from one yard away. The Patriots got on the scoreboard later in the third with a rushing touchdown and trailed 21-7. The Bulls got a 44-yard field goal from Kyle Aller two minutes into the fourth quarter and led 24-7.

St. Thomas Aquinas Wallops Western

     The defending FHSAA Class 5A state champions the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders went on the road and decimated the Western Wildcats 42-0 on Friday night in Davie. The Raiders began their march to win a state-record eighth consecutive state title and state-record 18th overall high school football state championship. 

     St. Thomas Aquinas(1-0) rocketed out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. They scored a touchdown within the first two minutes of the contest. The Raiders extended it to 14-0 with four minutes left in the second quarter. It became 21-0 for STA in the final minute of the first half with another touchdown. 

     Western(0-1) was in trouble early in the second half. St. Thomas Aquinas scored on their first possession of the third quarter at the nine-minute mark and led 28-0. The Raiders picked up another touchdown with three minutes remaining in the third for a 35-0 lead. STA reached the end zone again midway in the fourth quarter to lead 42-0. 

Cardinal Newman Tops Community School Of Naples

     The reigning FHSAA Class 1A state champions the Carinal Newman Crusaders stormed by the Community School of Naples Seahawks 37-6 at Sam Budnyk Field in West Palm Beach on Friday night. There was a minor ceremony prior to the game honoring their former head coach Sam Budnyk who passed away last month. 

     Both squads met in the FHSAA Class 1A regional semifinals last year. The Crusaders were victorious in that contest by the score of 45-14. 

     Cardinal Newman(1-0) scored 37 unanswered points from the start of the game and had a 37-point margin. A running clock was implemented during the second half. Community School of Naples(0-1) was able to get a touchdown during the fourth quarter as running back Fritz Jacques rushed in up the middle from two yards out to make it 37-6.

Marlins Overcomes Nationals

     The Miami Marlins came back on the Washington Nationals 3-2 in 10 innings at loanDepot park on Friday night. The Marlins began a six-game homestand and snapped a three-game losing streak. The Nationals have lost 16 of their last 22 contests. 

     Washington(61-69) was ahead 1-0 in the top of the sixth. Keibert Ruiz lifted a solo home run to right field on a 0-1 pitch for his eighth homer of the 2026 campaign. 

     Miami(65-64) leaped to a 2-1 advantage during the bottom of the eighth. Javier Sanoja singled into right field for Jakob Marsee to score. Three batters later, Otto Lopez knocked in Sanoja with a base hit through the right side.

     The Nationals were down to their final strike in the ninth inning and tied it up 2-2. Daylen Lile drove in Jacob Young on a single into left field. 

     The Marlins won the game during the bottom of the 10th. Sanoja singled up the middle and Agustin Ramirez raced home

49ers Add Khalil Herbert

     Former Broward County high school football running back Khalil Herbert has rejoined the San Francisco 49ers. He was signed and released by the Niners earlier this month. 

     Herbert played high school football with the American Heritage Patriots. He won two straight FHSAA Class 5A state championships with them in 2013 and 2014. 

     He was with the University of Kansas from 2016 to 2019. Herbert finished college football with Virginia Tech University in 2020. 

     Herbert was taken by the Chicago Bears in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He spent his first four seasons with the Bears from 2021 to 2024. Herbert played for the Cincinnati Bengals during 2024 and the New York Jets in 2025. 

Palm Beach Central Gets By Glades Central

     The Palm Beach Central Broncos squeezed by the Glades Central Raiders 14-9 at Bronco Stadium on Thursday night. The longtime rivalry continued between two recognizable high school football programs in South Florida. 

     The start of the contest was not started for one hour due to a lightning delay. This was the first night of regular season high school football games in Palm Beach County. 

     Palm Beach Central(1-0) will visit the Park Vista Cobras next week. Glades Central(0-1) has their home opener in a week against John Carroll Catholic. 

Chaminade-Madonna Slams Monarch

      It was the first day of Broward County regular season high school football games this year as the Chaminade-Madonna Lions dismantled the Monarch Knights 49-22 on Thursday night at Don Conkel Stadium at Coconut Creek High School. The contest was held at a neutral site because Monarch does not have a football field on their campus. 

     Chaminade-Madonna(1-0) rolled out to a 14-0 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The Lions scored early in the second quarter when quarterback Brady Quinn threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Tromon Isaac Jr. and they led 21-0. 

     Monarch(0-1) got on the scoreboard with a 60-yard touchdown strike and they trailed 21-6. Both teams then exchanged touchdowns on their next possessions. Chaminade-Madonna got a 50-yard touchdown pass while the Knights picked up a two-yard touchdown toss and a two-point conversion run to make it 28-14. 

     The Lions added two more touchdowns and made it 42-14 late in the second.  The second score was a Quinn 11-yard pass to wide receiver Armani Strong. 

     In the second half, Chaminade-Madonna increased their lead to 49-14 in the opening minute of the third quarter. Wide receiver Peter Pierre caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Quinn. 

     The Knights quickly answered back and they were down 49-22. Wide receiver Chris Cortinas made an 80-yard touchdown reception. It was followed by a two-point conversion pass. A weather delay due to lightning stopped the contest in the third. 

Jon Berti Retiring

     Former Miami Marlins infielder Jon Berti has announced his retirement from professional baseball. He was with the Marlins for five seasons from 2019 to 2023. 

     He helped Miami reach the postseason twice in 2020 and 2023. Berti contributed to the New York Yankees winning the American League pennant in 2024. He led Major League Baseball in stolen bases with 41 back in 2022. 

Myles Gaskin Finishes NFL Career

     Former Miami Dolphins running back Myles Gaskin has announced his retirement from the National Football League. He was with the Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks over the past three years. Gaskin captured a Super Bowl title with Seattle last season participating in one regular season game. 

     Gaskin was selected in the seventh round by the Fins during the 2019 NFL Draft. He would play four seasons with Miami from 2019 until 2022. Gaskins compiled 361 catches for 1,355 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns in 38 contests with the Dolphins. He also had 101 pass receptions for 701 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.

Zane Gonzalez Released By Fins

     The Miami Dolphins have released kicker Zane Gonzalez. The club agreed to an injury settlement with Gonzalez. 

     He has been in the National Football League since the 2017 season. Gonzalez had stints with the Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Washington Commanders and Atlanta Falcons. 

Commanders Release River Cracraft

     The Washington Commanders have released wide receiver River Cracraft. The team has given Cracraft an injury settlement. 

     Cracraft was with the Miami Dolphins for three seasons from 2022 to 2024. He collected 25 catches for 289 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 29 games. 

Christian Bethancourt Traded

     The New York Yankees have traded catcher Christian Bethnacourt to the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations. He has not played in the majors this season. 

     Bethancourt was once with the Miami Marlins during the 2024 regular season. He ended up with two home runs, seven runs batted in and a .159 batting average in 38 contests. 

Joe Raineri Joins Sport & State

     Former local radio on-air talent Joe Raineri has joined Sport & State. It is a new company that was launched by Clay Travis today. Raineri co-hosts an afternoon program called On Tilt with Ariel Epstein and Kelly Stewart. 

     Raineri has worked in the South Florida market for the past 15 years. He was the morning co- host on WRMF-FM in West Palm Beach from 2011 until 2014. 

     He joined 640 Sports WMEN-AM in November 2014 as an afternoon host taking over for Steve White. He was moved to the midday shift in May 2015 and then returned to afternoon drive in August 2015 replacing Hank Goldberg. Raineri was elevated to morning co-host alongside Steve Zemach in January 2016 and they held those positions until March 2017. 

     Raineri was a morning disc jockey on WBGF-FM and WZFL-FM from May 2017 to June 2018. He became a studio co-host of The Morning After show on FNTSY Sports Radio Network and SportsGrid in 2018 and held that position until early 2026.  

Inter Miami CF Ties Philadelphia Union

     Inter Miami CF tied the Philadelphia Union 2-2 at Subaru Park on Wednesday night. The Herons snapped a three-game losing streak throughout all of their competitive contests. 

     In the first half, Philadelphia(5-10-5) rumbled out to a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute of play. Frankie Westfield crossed the ball from the right side and Indiana Vassilev volleyed in a right-footed shot from seven yards out. 

     Inter Miami CF(11-3-6) evened it up in the 21st minute of play. Daniel Pinter tapped in a two-yard shot with his right foot following assists from Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi. 

     The Herons jumped to their first lead of the contest 2-1 in the 26th minute. Messi dribbled in the penalty area and then drilled a left-footed shot from 10 yards away into the low left corner of the cage. 

     In the second half, the Union made it a tie game 2-2 in the 58th minute. Neil Pierre was able to get the tally. 

Phillies Sweep Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies pulled off a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins 4-1 on Wednesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins finished off a six-game road trip and fell more behind in the National League Wild-Card race. 

     Philadelphia(70-58) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Garrett Stubbs picked up an infield base hit to short and Luis Arraez reached home.

     It became 3-0 for the Phillies during the third inning. Arraez ripped a two-run homer to right field on a 2-2 pitch with Bryce Harper aboard. It turned out to be the sixth home run this year for Arraez. 

     Miami(64-64) made it 3-1 in the top of the sixth. Javier Sanoja smacked a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 count for his sixth homer of the seasons. 

     The Phils expanded their lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh. Turner knocked in Kyle Schwarber with a double into the left-center field gap. 

Trey Mancini Retires

     One-time Miami Marlins player Trey Mancini has retired from professional baseball. He was with the Baltimore Orioles for most of his Major League Baseball career from 2016 to 2022. He was dealt to the Houston Astros late in the 2022 campaign and captured a World Series title with them. 

     Mancini was signed by the Miami Marlins in January 2024 and attended their spring training camp in Jupiter. He opted out of his minor league contract when he did not make the Marlins Major League Baseball roster four days before the start of the regular season.  

Dolphins Ink Mark Gronowski Again

     The Miami Dolphins signed quarterback Mark Gronowski again over the weekend. He was an undrafted free agent. Gronowski participated in the Dolphins spring practice and their first week of training camp. 

     Gronowski went to South Dakota State University from 2020 to 2024. He spent his final season in college football with the University of Iowa Hawkeyes in 2025. 

Phillies Get By Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies edged the Miami Marlins 6-4 on Tuesday night at Citizens Bank Park. The Marlins conclude a six-game road swing tomorrow. 

     Philadelphia(69-58) raced out to a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the first. Alec Bohm singled into left field and Bryce Harper reached home. 

     Miami(64-63) evened it up 1-1 in the second inning. Griffin Conine socked a solo home run to center field on a 0-2 pitch for his 14th homer of the campaign. 

     The Marlins picked up one run in the fifth inning and one run in the sixth inning for a 3-1 lead. Xavier Edwards knocked in Brian Navarreto on a single into left-center field. In the sixth, Heriberto Hernandez grounded out into a force out and Otto Lopez to scored on a throwing error by Luis Arraez. 

     The Phillies answered back in the bottom of the sixth with four runs and they leaped to a 5-3 lead. Bohm doubled into left-center field and Trea Turner raced home. Bryson Stott followed with a base hit up the middle for Arraez and Bohm to score. Three batters later, Justin Crawford drove in Stott on a single through the left side.  

     The Fish closed it to 5-4 in the top of the eighth. Hernandez singled into center field and Conine scored. 

     In the bottom of the eighth, the Phils increased their lead to 6-4. Kyle Schwarber picked up a base hit into left field and Stott touched home. 

Shemar Jean-Charles On Seahawks

      Former Broward County high school defensive back Shemar Jean-Charles is playing with the Seattle Seahawks. He participated with the Miramar Patriots while in high school. Jean-Charles later attended Appalachian State University for college football. 

     He made previous stops in the National Football League. Jean-Charles had stints with the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints. 

Anthony Hankerson Heads To Seahawks

     One-time Broward County high school football running back Anthony Hankerson has signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks. He was waived by the Miami Dolphins last week. 

     Hankerson was with the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders while playing high school football. He captured three straight FHSAA Class 7A state championships with STA in 2019, 2020 and 2021. 

     He played college football for the University of Colorado in 2022 and 2023. Hankerson transferred to Oregon State University for his final two seasons in 2024 and 2025. 

Erik Ezukanma With Eagles

     Former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Erik Ezukanma is playing with the Philadelphia Eagles. He signed with that organization on June 16. 

     Ezukanma was with the Dolphins for three seasons from 2022 until 2024 and suited up for five contests. He did have five pass receptions for 22 receiving yards during the 2023 regular season. 

Suns Re-Sign Haywood Highsmith

     The Phoenix Suns are re-signing Haywood Highsmith to a new one-year contract. He inked a deal with the team back in February. 

     Highsmith participated with the Miami Heat for four seasons from 2021-22 until 2024-25.  He averaged 5.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in 213 contests. 

Phillies Respond To Marlins

     The Philadelphia Phillies outdueled the Miami Marlins 6-5 at Citizens Bank Park on Monday night. Both teams are battling out for a National League Wild-Card spot. 

     Philadelphia(68-58) went out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third. Park Vista High School grad Trea Turner singled through the left side and Justin Crawford reached home. Two batters later, former Marlins player Luis Arraez knocked in Turner on a base hit through the right side. 

     Miami(64-62) cut the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the sixth. Griffin Conine singled into left field and Otto Lopez scored. 

     The Phillies added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 4-1 advantage. Pinch-hitter Derek Hill got a base hit up the middle for Bryson Stott to score. Kyle Schwarber followed with a sacrifice fly to center field and J.T. Realmuto raced home. 

     The Marlins closed it to 4-3 in the top of the seventh. Javier Sanoja doubled into right field for Xavier Edwards and Agustin Ramirez to cross the plate. 

     The Phils made it 5-3 during the bottom of the seventh. Hill walked with the bases loaded and Alec Bohm touched home. 

     In the eighth inning, Miami pulled it to 5-4. Brian Navarreto powered a solo home run to left field on a 1-1 pitch for his first homer of the year. . 

     Philadelphia answered back and regained a two-run margin 6-4. Bohm drove in Harper with a base hit up the middle. 

     The Marlins added another run in the top of the ninth to make it 6-5. Lopez singled into right-center field and Edwards scored. 

Amar'e Stoudemire Basketball Hall Of Fame

     One-time Miami Heat center Amar'e Stoudemire was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts on Saturday night. He was one of eight individuals who were part of the class of 2026. 

     Stoudemire finished his NBA career with the Heat in the 2015-16 season. He averaged 5.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in 52 regular season contests while in Miami. 

Marlins Outlast Reds

     The Miami Marlins handled the Cincinnati Reds 7-1 on Sunday at Great American Ball Park. The Marlins are now in the middle of a six-game road swing and will challenge the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. 

      Miami(64-61) got two runs in the top of the eighth. Cincinnati(59-64) chalked up one run in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run by Tyler Stephenson

      The Marlins compiled five runs during the ninth inning and pulled away. Javier Sanoja capped the frame with a three-run homer to left field n a 1-1 count for his fifth home run of the year.

   

Kendall Lamm Ending NFL Career

     One-time Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Kendall Lamm is retiring. The Baltimore Ravens have placed him on their reserve/retired list. The Ravens signed him to a deal on August 4. 

     Lamm spent four seasons with the Miami Dolphins from 2022 to 2025. He was able to participate in 46 contests, including one postseason game in 2023. 

Inter Miami CF Falls To Nashville SC

     Inter Miami CF lost to Nashville SC 4-1 at GEODIS Park on Saturday night. The Herons continued their rivalry against one of their top Eastern Conference foes over the last couple of years. It was the 12nd meeting between both teams in all competitions since 2024. 

     First place was on the line as both teams hold the top two spots in the Eastern Conference standings. The Herons have a 1-3-1 overall record in all competitions over their past five contests. They were eliminated from the League Cup tournament on Wednesday. 

     In the first half, Nashville SC(13-2-4) moved out to a 1-0 advantage in the 17th minute. A cross from the left side bounced in the six-yard area and Andy Najar put in a header from two yards. 

     Inter Miami CF(11-3-5) tied it up 1-1 during stoppage time at the conclusion of the first half. Telasco Segovia made a turnaround shot with his right foot from 11 yards out into the right side of the cage. 

     Nashville SC reclaimed the lead 2-1 in the 49th minute. Hany Mukhtar zipped a left-footed shot in from eight yards away. 

     They increased their lead to 3-1 during the 56th minute of play. Sam Surridge backheeled a shot with his right foot from five yards. 

     The Herons surrendered another goal in the 63rd minute and were down 4-1. Inter Miami CF goalkeeper Rocco Rios Novo slipped trying to stop a clearing pass at least 44 yards off his line near the midfield circle. Mukhtar dribbled with the ball into the penalty area alone and placed in a right-footed shot from nine yards away into an open net.
