940 The Sports Animal WINZ-AM afternoon host Jesse Agler has been named the new television play-by-play announcer for Miami Dolphins preseason games. Agler will announce four games and will not work the Hall Of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio between the Dolphins and Dallas Cowboys on August 4. He did announce one preseason game on radio in 2011 as the team slid regular play-by-play announcer Jimmy Cefalo to a game analyst alongside Joe Rose.
He replaces Dick Stockton as the Dolphins preseason television voice. Stockton, who does work for Fox Sports as an NFL and baseball play-by-play announcer, did the Dolphins exhibition season from 2010 when he replaced Craig Bolerjack until 2012.
Agler, a University of Miami grad, began at Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM as a sports anchor and later became a morning sports anchor at that station. He was named the studio host for the Florida Panthers Radio Network prior to the start of the 2005-06 season. He also added duties as the studio host for the Florida Marlins Radio Network. He lost both positions when the radio rights switched from WQAM to 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM.
He moved to 790 The Ticket where he was a weekend sports anchor for several months. He returned back to WQAM as a sports anchor and became the studio host for the Miami Hurricanes Radio Network for several years.
Agler joined Clear Channel Miami in early 2010 when he replaced Jeremy Marks-Peltz as the morning sports anchor for News Radio 610 WIOD-AM. He also became a sports anchor at 940 The Sports Animal WINZ-AM and was later promoted to host a new show called The Finsiders during afternoon drive along with being named the new pregame and halftime host of the Miami Dolphins Radio Network in July 2010.
