The Miami Marlins picked up their fourth win in their last five games with a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. The Fish play in their shortest series of the season with this two-game set.
Minnesota(34-39) got on the scoreboard first during the third inning against Jose Fernandez. Clete Thomas went to first with a one-out walk and went to second on a base hit to left field by Brian Dozier. After a sacrifice fly out to left by Joe Mauer, former Marlin Josh Willingham singled to center field for Thomas to score.
Miami(26-50) overtook the Twins in the sixth inning with two runs off Kevin Correia. Ed Lucas lined a one-out single to center. Giancarlo Stanton walked then Logan Morrison singled to center field to load the bases. Marcell Ozuna knocked in Lucas and Stanton with a base hit into center field.
Derek Dietrich smacked his seventh home run of the season in the seventh inning for the Fish with a lead-off homer to right field on the first pitch off Brian Duensing. The Marlins added another run in the eighth inning on consecutive doubles to center field by Morrison and Ozuna against Josh Roenicke.
Fernandez pitched five innings, allowed one run on three hits and did not got a decision. A.J. Ramos got his second major league career win when he hurled two scoreless innings in middle relief. Correia fell to 6-5 as he went six innings and gave up two runs on five hits.
