The Miami Heat celebrated their NBA title with a championship parade in the city of Miami and an indoor celebration at American Airlines Arena on Monday. It was the second consecutive year that Miami held a parade for the team and the third championship parade since 2006. The Heat passed the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night as they now have the most team championships for a South Florida club with three.
The outside parade was delayed for thirty minutes until 11:30 a.m. mainly because team personnel had to battle through clogged traffic on the way to the arena area. Some players did receive police escorts to arrive at American Airlines Arena. It was the same route as last year as it began on Calle Ocho/8th Street going east toward the business district, shifted to Brickell Avenue/Biscayne Boulevard going north and finished in front of American Airlines Arena. The outside festivities lasted one hour on a sunny day with some clouds and the weather was less hot than it was in 2012.
After a fifty-minute wait to get organized, the scene moved inside the arena and was attended by the season-ticket holders and families of Miami Heat personnel. The ceremony indoors to honor the team lasted one hour and twenty minutes.
