The Miami Marlins made their first appearance in Kansas City since 2007 as they fell to the Royals 6-2 at Kauffman Stadium on Monday night. The Marlins have lost eight of their last nine games and moved to 18-41 in road games.
Kansas City(62-54) dropped down two runs on a two-out rally during the fourth inning against Tom Koehler. Mike Moustakas reached base on an infield hit and then scored on a Justin Maxwell triple to right field. Chris Getz slammed a single into center field for Maxwell to score.
In the top of the sixth inning, Miami(44-73) got a one-out single to center by Giancarlo Stanton and he scored on a Logan Morrison double into right field. After Ed Lucas struck out, Greg Dobbs knocked in Morrison with a double to deep right field against Wade Davis to tie the game at 2-2.
The Royals rebounded quickly in the bottom of the sixth and retook the lead with three more runs. Following a one-out base hit by Getz into center field, Alcides Escobar drove in Getz on an RBI-triple into right field. Escobar crossed the plate on an infield single by Jarrod Dyson, who would then steal second base. David Lough brought him in on a base hit to right field.
The Marlins surrendered one more run in the seventh inning with Ryan Webb on the mound. Billy Butler smacked a lead-off home run to left field on a 2-1 pitch for his 11th homer this season.
