It is the football game that all of Dade County has been waiting for this year as the defending Class 6A state champion Miami Central Rockets take on the defending Class 4A state champions Booker T. Washington Tornadoes Friday night at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami. Both teams place high on the state and national high school football polls this season.
Miami Central enters the game with a 1-0 record after they defeated the American Heritage Patriots 42-20 in Plantation last week. They also handled the Dwyer Panthers, who are considered the best team in Palm Beach County, two weeks ago during a kickoff classic 44-13 in Palm Beach Gardens.
The Rockets, who are ranked first in the state of Florida and in the nation, are led by the most powerful backfield in the country with Joseph Yearby and Dalvin Cook as running backs. Both combined for 380 rushing yards on 28 carries and six touchdowns last week against American Heritage. Keith Reed will call the signals at quarterback and throw to wide receiver Da'vante Phillips down the field.
Booker T. Washington also comes in with one victory two weeks ago as they went on the road to Georgia and routed Norcross 55-0. Quarterback Treon Harris will be in charge and lead the Torandoes offense.
