The Florida Panthers made a deal on Wednesday to exchange goalies as they sent Tim Thomas to the Dallas Stars for Dan Ellis. This trade was expected because Florida acquired Roberto Luongo from the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday and it seemed the club has committed to him as their starting goalie for the next couple of seasons.
Thomas signed a one-year contract with the Panthers during their training camp. He had a 16-20-3 record, 2.87 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage in 40 games this season for the Cats. Thomas had previously played for the Boston Bruins for eight seasons and led the team to a Stanley Cup championship in 2010-11 for the first time in 39 years.
Ellis just finished his second stint with the Dallas Stars as he went 5-6-0 with a .900 save percentage and a 3.04 goals-against-average in 14 games in 2013-14. He has played for several teams during his NHL career which included Nashville, Tampa Bay, Anaheim and Carolina.
