University of Alabama commit and Deerfield Beach wide receiver Jerry Jeury caught two touchdown passes as the Bucks showed their offensive power and beat the Chaminade-Madonna Lions 27-14 on Saturday night at Butler Stadium. It was the final preseason kickoff classic to be played in South Florida this year.
Deerfield Beach struck quickly as they scored on the third play of the contest. Jeudy ran by a defender to get wide open and caught a 76-yard catch down the right sideline from quarterback Nick Holm at 11:07 of the first quarter.
Chaminade-Madonna had 58-yard touchdown run by quarterback Henry Columbi negated due a penalty downfield less than two minutes later. They eventually scored to tie the game 7-7 at 5:48 as Columbi connected a 60-yard pass to wide receiver Xavier Williams on the right side.
The Bucks controlled the second quarter when wide receiver Leroy Henley caught a pass up the middle from Holm and raced down the field for a 60-yard touchdown at 8:54 to make it 13-7.
The Lions fumbled the ball away on their next possession and Deerfield Beach was able to capitalize. Running back Jakari Norwood went through the line scrimmage, angled to the right and scored from 25 yards away on the second play of the drive with 7:28 left in the second for a 20-7 margin.
Lions running back Shaun Shivers closed the gap to 20-14 with 74-yard touchdown run just 43 seconds into the second half. The Bucks responded with another long touchdown pass from Holm to Jeudy of 70 yards at 1:13 of the third quarter.
