The Miami Heat surprised the defending NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers with a 120-92 victory on Saturday night at American Airlines Arena. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving did not play in the game even though they were eligible.
This is part of a home-and-home series with the Heat visiting Cleveland on Monday night. The Cavs entered the contest with the best record in the Eastern Conference.
Both clubs came out strong as they were tied 35-35 after one quarter. Miami(29-34) kept up the pace during the second quarter with 32 points and were ahead 67-51 at halftime. Cleveland(42-19) fell behind even more and trailed 101-75 after three quarters.
Goran Dragic led the Heat with 23 points while Hassan Whiteside contributed a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Channing Frye had a team-high 21 points for Cleveland.
