The Miami Marlins came two outs short of a no-hitter as they got a 5-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field on Tuesday night. The Fish have won four of their last five games. Wei-Yin Chen had thrown a no-hitter through seven innings on 100 pitches for the Marlins against Seattle(6-9) and was pulled from the contest.
Miami(8-6) moved out to a 1-0 margin in the first inning. Dee Gordon scored on an infield hit by Christian Yelich to the right side. They made it 2-0 during the second when Derek Dietrich came home on a wild pitch to J.T. Realmuto.
The Marlins got a four-run cushion in the top of the third inning. Justin Bour knocked Yelich in on a two-run homer to left field on a 3-1 count. It was his second home run of the season.
J.T. Riddle added another run for the Fish during the ninth inning. He hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Miguel Rojas.
Mitch Haniger broke up the no-hitter with one out in the bottom of the ninth. He cracked a double into right-center field against Kyle Barraclough for the first hit of the game by the Mariners.
