The Houston Astros held off the Miami Marlins 7-2 on Monday night at Marlins Park. The Marlins have lost nine of 11 and 15 of their last 19 games. The Astros entered the contest with the best record in Major League Baseball.
Miami (14-23) got out to a 1-0 lead during the fifth inning. Christian Yelich got a base hit into center field to score J.T. Riddle.
Houston(27-12) mounted a comeback in the top of the sixth inning. Yuli Gurriel capped it with a grand-slam homer to left field on a 2-1 pitch. Josh Reddick, Carlos Correa and Evan Gattis were able to score on the play.
The Astros extended their margin to 6-1 in the seventh. Jose Altuve lined a single toward left field which brought in Nori Aoki and George Springer.
In the eighth inning, Justin Bour blasted a solo home run to right field on a 1-1 count. It was his fourth homer in the last five games. Altuve matched it with his own solo homer to center on a 1-1 pitch during the ninth inning.
