Former district rivals will go at it on Friday night as the Dwyer Panthers host the Atlantic Eagles at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens. Both schools have consistently made the FHSAA playoffs over the past decade.
Atlantic(0-1) finished as the District 10 runner-up to undefeated Park Vista last year. The Eagles reached all the way to the Class 8A regional final where they lost on the road to Deerfield Beach. The Eagles fell in their season opener to Palm Beach Central 14-13. Antoine Williams II gets to call the signals as quarterback. Running back Corey Cola Jr., a transfer from Park Vista, is expected to make many rushing attempts. Atlantic has a strong set of wide receivers with Corey Gammage, Cadarius Gaskin, Alex Henningham and Oyeh Lurry-Davis, who transferred from Dwyer to Atlantic.
Dwyer(1-0) had the same season for the second straight year as they won District 13 and lost to eventual FHSAA Class 7A state champion St. Thomas Aquinas in the regional semifinal. They needed overtime to top Park Vista 22-15 for a road victory. Quarterback Trevor Omans steps up to lead the Panthers offense while running back Cedric Tucker looks to gain yardage. Omans has wide receivers Derrick Smith, Cephus Smith and Andrew Kasten to make receptions.
